His mother and grandfather stated that Brandon threatens Betty with burning down their house unless they give give him money. The authorities need to be made aware. Just because they're family doesnt mean you can extort with threats of violence with no repercussions. The people donating deserve to have their funds used for what they were told it would be used for. This is despicable.

Growing up oldest of 6 kids, on welfare and no dad I felt hopeless most everyday, on my 17th birthday I joined the military knowing it was my only resource for improving my life, I had no work, no money and had I set around waiting for opportunity to somehow find me I would have fallen by the wayside and probably ended up in jail or dead like some of my family and friends. Now 68 the scars of poverty still haunt me now and then but I thank God everyday for the US Marines

I had to come back and watch this after hearing he also blew a lot of the money on drugs. He said on this video he only smoked weed, but he's extremely fidgety and his eyes are bloodshot like someone withdrawing or on drugs. Luis on the other hand looks sober and mentally sound

Love how protective these young men are of their family. I hope they get out and are successful in life.

These two young men are loved and I pray for them to have a hope and a future. I was raised without a father and not single mom. Thankful for grandpa I had.

Luis, I live in Indiana and there are a ton of healthcare opportunities with the many IU hospitals throughout the state. You can get a position that will pay you while training you to obtain certifications such as phlebotomy (drawing blood) and other various professions within the healthcare field. There’s also a network of low cost community colleges (Ivy Tech Community College) throughout the state. The campuses all offer nursing programs. Ivy Tech is partially state funded so there’s a ton of scholarship opportunities. There are not any housing programs but you could get a position at any of the many nursing homes that will pay to certify you as a CNA, then pay for your Ivy Tech classes to become a nurse and employ you as a nurse once you graduate and pass your nursing exams. It’s hard work getting there but it can be done. You can make a living while getting where you want to be and there are places that will pay for your education. You can do it!!

I hope Mark can pass this information along to Luis because I feel that if he can be aware of the procedure, that might be the push he needs to make a plan and get out of there. It must be so isolating living in an area, having a sense you want to get out, but not even having access to the information that is available. There must be financial aid opportunities for him, given his circumstances. Hoping he can get a plan together and stick to it.

Luis is the one person I see getting out and breaking the cycle. I wish Mark would put all of his resources in helping him. The elders have money coming in to support their needs from the government. Get Luis away from them and help him get in touch with the right people who will truly have his best interests at heart to become a healthcare worker. We are so short handed the field is wide open. We all graduated from high school and two went to Ohio, Virginia, and North Carolina. We had a rough life but good memories and we all miss our hills of wva. I really enjoy you and the Whittaker’s. BJ is the Mom to the boy's. Brandon is using drugs, as is the Mom. She contacted Mark needing money for her Dad Larry who she said had died and had no money for the funeral. Mark showed up and Betty had lied about it for BJ. And Mark was upset because he has done a lot for the family.

Grew up super close to these guys. Surprised I never crossed paths with them. I will say, I hope Luis succeeds. He seems like a kid with big dreams, I just hope he doesn't give up on himself. From where we're from imposter syndrome is massive. Good luck to you man!

Getting into restaurant management at a young age can be a great start. Eventually, moving to a larger city and better restaurants.. that can provide a nice living. If nursing/medical is Luis’ true passion, he can follow through with that as well. Wishing both the guys all the best.

Thanks for making this point. I have 17 yr old and 19 year old sons who work VERY hard in restaurants and have ZERO desire to go to college. It took me this past year to realize that they MIGHT be OK without a degree. Funny thing is that I raised them being a hotel manager and LOVE what I do but just breaks my heart to think that they won’t have the college experience like I did. However, I forget that “experience “ is soooo much more expensive. But we are always going to need people in hospitality-restaurants, hotels, attractions etc. HOPEFULLY they don’t have regrets

Betty is a true meaning of an angel! She promised her mother she wouldnt leave the family and she sacrificed her life to make sure the family stayed together!💖 These boys have been through it and they come across as lovely young men. You can see the love they have for the Whittakers and I would watch more interviews with Brandon and Luis. I bet they have some amazing tales to tell!

You’re a wise young man who has seen a world of hurt. We are all cheering you on. You can do amazing things. Brandon. You are cut from that exact same cloth, and I know that you can turn yourself around. I know you can make a full 180, get clean and make amends to your family. Your babies deserve a healthy and sober father. We all know you can do those amazing things too.

Well these 2 need jobs to keep them out of trouble ...they will never learn without having jobs. Plenty of places are hiring. Stop thinking life is all about how many freebies and how much money can they get from their disabled family members. Funny how they can always come up w money for the bad stuff but can't afford food for their children. We need to learn when to cut those benefits when they refuse to work for themselves. Sure folks need help SOMETIMES but if we continue to just pay everyone to sit around making kids , we will not anymore money to give anyone. It's sad that this young men don't think they can pay their own ways and help their family . One of them is the lady's son who keeps asking for and getting money. Those gofundmes were not for either of them but I guess when your mama is a druggie ,then you will do it with her too ..why not have others pay for your bad habits. ??

Luis! Will pray for you to get your GED. I have a daughter your age who also had to leave high school her junior year. She wants to work with the elderly but is struggling hard with her mental health issues. Pray for her to get her GED too! You both are bright and deserve it.

Luis, you gave me goosebumps when you said you want to become a nurse or a doctor, we would absolutely love you to pursuit this, you have the will and time and I'm sure you can get the financial help, the world need more people like you. Brandon, I was very touched when you said your future and the future of your children are your biggest worries, I'm confident that after this video you will get some opportunity for work and the rest will follow... I live in Australia. I left school wanting to be a nurse. I wasn’t mature enough for what I had to do. Especially on leaving school. I have worked with kids, people with disabilities, in aged care homes. I’ve done learn to swim teaching, Lifeguarding at pools and beaches, cafes, clothes shops. I’m an assistant nurse now in an aged care home and studying for my Registered Nurse degree. It’s taken me 20years and worked with /for lots of people. Best thing I did for my confidence and my ability to become a nurse. It might take a bit. Life, work, money, confidence etc can impact it. I really hope and want the best for you guys. You both are articulate, bright and intelligent and incredibly kind.

Wow I like seeing this. Luis has a calm energy and quiet focus that makes him very likable. I think he is capable of doing a lot with himself. Brandon seems very sweet and good natured. I hear his aunts voice in him at times. I hope both of them are able to break the cycle they were born into and accomplish great things.

As far as Brandon maybe seeing all the love for him on this video will inspire him to make sure he puts his best foot forward. He and Luis are also featured in the beginning of the video Mark uploaded called "The Whittakers got to the state fair." Brandon seems very personable and quick to smile and his baby boy Braxton is beautiful. Having 3 kids is a lot of responsibility but he can do right by them if he makes his mind up that is what he wants to do. @@jacobus57

BOTH young men are adorable. I imagine going out in the world, they may feel shorted or a lack of confidence...and ppl can be horrible, hopefully they find ppl along the way who are encouraging and who believe in them. Success comes from within, but these boys have had a tough go out of the gate, and I wish them the best...life can beat you down even with the best of beginnings and opportunities. It's still early in the game for them to make it happen.

I have hope for Luis! I think he can get somewhere and do something good with his life. As long as he stays focused, and won't touch drugs or get anyone pregnant, he CAN do it !!! Brandon seems more 'happy' with that lifestyle, he's 21 with two kids, a third on the way and wants to work in the mines because that's what they do around there.. Luis speaks clearly, learned from his past mistakes, can talk about the problems from his past and wants to better himself. You don't need a PHD to become a nurse but at least he wants to try to get away from there, better himself and has a goal. Being a nurse is very achievable for a 19 year old, maybe he won't make it to doctor but that's setting his sights high. It wouldn't surprise me if you think he's beneath you, but you never achieved anything, so he can't.

Great seeing someone that can tell us behind the scenes of knowing and living there. Would love to hear more from these 2 boys of memories of the Whittaker's. Thank you!
