The Way Back | Fiji to Panama | A voyage on FPB 78 that changed the prospects of cruising forever
Ғылым және технология
Join Linda and Steve Dashew aboard the FPB 78 - 1 Cochise on a 7500 mile/12,070 kilometer record setting voyage, averaging 10 knots from Fiji to Panama against the winds and current, that has changed the prospects of cruising forever. Their 5450 mile/8770 kilometer leg, without a fuel stop, is the longest ever undertaken by a small motor yacht. You will be aboard as they thread their way through some of the most beautiful and navigationally dangerous waters on this planet. The Dashews will show you how they deal with severe thunder squalls, use modern navigation electronics, and catch fish on a state of the art meat line. You will hear stories of their past visits through the South Pacific, make a brief stop at exquisite Fatu Hiva, and learn how they do all of this in extreme comfort.

You set the standards and I wish you more voyages. Thank you for sharing what pretty much all of us, never will experience. Absolutely mind bending the luxury you enjoy.
This is my dream. Bless you who get to enjoy this.
Truly enjoyed this voyage and look forward to viewing even more!
I am deeply touched by the story of the Dashews. It is a Love story of 2 people and their love of the sea. I would entrust my life with their boats.
Beautiful video, editing perfect. You two have been my heroes since my first sail boat. Now in my 80,s I wish I had the money to own something as great as this boat. Bless you and your family.
This is the best boat yacht I have ever seen. Exactly confortable the way it should be. Thanks to have taken the time to build it and please build more of the same I want to buy one
I have circumnavigated snd been to all of these spots in the video- however to do it again in a vessel like this has forced me to start buying lottery tickets once more/ what an incredible creation built on experience!
WOW! What a sensational ship ! Great voyage as well...…… BRAVO!
Thank You so much for sharing this beauty, true freedom true love! GOD BLESS YOU
Beautifully done video. The boat is a dream. And to think of the incredible hardships the first European sailors had to endure crossing the Pacific.
I hope someone can take your lead and continue producing these wonderful yachts. They have such an elegance but also being so raw. Thank you for this wonderful video and Sue's music is so soothing. Linda and Steve, I hope you have many wonderful years of retirement. Thank you again and calm seas
Beautiful guys, just beautiful. All of it, people, ship, photos, information, and Sarah's music. Her music brought me back to my time in the coffee houses in Toronto's Yorkville { The Village } back in the 60's. Thanks for your post folks.

Thank you for this video! I can't afford a yacht myself, so the way the video was shot really made me feel like I was there crossing the Pacific. Awesome images!

Hello from Colombia. Your story over the years is beautiful. I don't know much about boats, but my boyfriend who is from America has shown me several videos of your journey and I was really amazed. Post: Your bit is the boat of the dreams of my dukce boyfriend.Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences
I don’t think it gets better than this...wow, beautiful ❤️🌞❤️
I am absolutely impressed! Fantastic chronicle of your voyage. And that ship of yours, impressive!
Congrats. I am so jealous, looks like you all had a wonderful time and what a ship you have.
Very well produced video...and boat! Thanks for the time you put into both.
Fantastic. Beautiful yacht. Thank you.
Thank you for inspiring us! That's serious cruising
Your video reminds me that I can find peace of mind someday. Thank you and good luck with everything.
Thank you. Really glad to see it in practice rather than just pretty pictures.
Amazing video and what a amazing little ship. In love with it
Inspirational. I love seeing people live their life to the fullest.
I think I'm starting to understand the idea behind the design. Long narrow bow that pierces the waves, rather than rising over them. An extended stern tail to assist in getting speed from a following sea safely. Mind you I'm glossing over the years of details and effort in that description. Exposed aluminum everywhere, lack of maintenance. You're sailing who needs that grief? The lack of excessive cabin space compared to length, so as to keep the center of gravity low, unlike most motor yachts that stuff cabin space everywhere possible, so you end up with a wallowing cow. Simple clean living space, high tech, high quality, yet not distracting from the view outside. After all that's why you're there. Every possible piece and part done to make extended cruising safe and comfortable. Am I close? I must say this boat is my favorite yacht of yours, mostly because of the enclosed matrix deck. I think that adds majorly to it's looks and livability. Confession time, I'm an avowed landlubber who takes showers because tubs have deep water. My sole time on the ocean has been on the ferry to Vancouver Island. Please excuse the lack of proper terminology. What you have done interest me. Thank you for the videos. Doug

The hull form is offshore supply/crew vessel, there are similar designs in Netherlands yes the vessel is very speedy that’s way none interior elements..

Howdy Nuts: You are very close. The distribution of interior volume is based on the following: 1-Keeping living areas as close to the motion center as possible for comfort and better rest at sea. 2-Systems within the engine room and elsewhere installed in such a manner that they are easily accessible for inspection and maintenance. 3-Room for supplies, and loose equipment so that it can be stored in an orderly, easily retrieved manner. Regarding the waterline length, this is a benefit in terms of reduced drag, and allows shaping the hull so that it is more easily steered compared to a shorter, fatter waterline design.
Hi Steve & Linda, what a magnificent yacht!!! I plan to travel along with you on the awesome journey. Thanks for sharing. Pat Schmidt Hall(Jim's sister)
Kudos Sarah! I really appricate all your time and work on your videos. Be happy, be safe

Beautiful music, beautiful video, wonderful narration, and the Finest Perfect Boat!!! That must be the derivation of FPB. I am inspired by all of this! Thank you so much for this!
I greatly appreciate your video. My dear uncle Vic, who passed two years ago was a cruiser. I am a just a day sailor who never quite understood his passion for voyaging for, literally, years at a time. Your insight into the details has made his passion clearer. Thank you.
God bless you all. Thank you for your informative journey

Wow epic journey!
Amazing !
This was amazing!! What a life!!!
Such a a pleasure to watch another thrilling episode of the Dashew's as they cruise some familiar seas . I can only but try to thank you both, for sharing the magnificent photographs and footage taken whilst cruising aboard your superb vessel. Setting and keeping such a high standard is what makes for perhaps the best ocean going channel on the tube . That being said , the Majestic Osprey gets best image this episode. Thanks Crew,,, Much Respect from Down Under

I doubt it. The internet has given the world the ability to see how the other half lives. Before the internet there was ignorance, now we see how unequal the world really is.
@DavidHHermanson

I don't think of this wasteful, environmentally disastrous lifestyle as at all "fortunate." For a couple who claim to love the sea yet still spend a tankage budget of "4700 usable gallons of diesel fuel" in order to prove that their latest design can go to windward (all while making a sales video - let's call this what it is), is the height of hypocrisy. The Dashews are just another profligate luxury brand, nothing less, and certainly nothing more. Let's call them the Kardashians of the sea. This video's "yacht" has long been supplanted. They're currently selling 97 footers.....motorboats that even more than this look like military patrol vessels. The Dashews call it a "battle-worthy look."

@Eric Fermin instead of being jealous why don't you go make your own fortune. Steve and his Dad both made their money through inventing. Stanley came up with a bunch of patents in various industries. Steve came up with several in the concrete construction industry then turned his hand to yacht design. Both earned their money.
Some cracking photos
I remember reading your sail from Tahiti to the west coast of the USA , sailing between 2 tropical storms in Bearwolf ( I think) , so long ago. It was my favorite large sailing yacht. I think I still have the article somewhere in my collection. Glad to see the two of you still crossing oceans and enjoying life. Congratulations on doing things other people ( and me) still dream about.

Truly an amazing power boat to get that kind of range.
Awesome!
To a novice like myself your boat looks top heavy! I guess it isn't otherwise you wouldn't have it. ❤
Thanks for the wonderful voyage . At 74 years of age and no where near enough money to buy or rent such a yacht and no desire to spend that much time on the water I really enjoyed your video .

This would be super fun
less than 1 gallon per mile for a 78' boat and do 4700 nm in one go at a great speed ? Wow, those are great numbers. Boat looks to handle beautiful in the waves. Nice video
Just fabulous.
I love your channel I just found out through KZread searching congratulation on this awesome boat you have that is a Dreamboat to live aboard for life. Same here! I chartered a 47 footer in the Caribbean once, but my wife didn't care for it. She would never allow the family to have a nice boat, much less a very expensive one like this.
Amazing machine, I'm impressed. To me it takes all the fun and challenge out of traveling by boat though, that thing is prettier inside and roomier than my house. 😂
wauw you make a dream real !
Awesome ship.
