Yep he had that same energy with whitebeard till he cut him with his huge ass naginata. Then he was crying like a bitch on the ground till his (truly powerful crew all ganged up and shot *some till the had none left* bullets into him) his loosely allied pirate crew to save him. Even then it took a coward's whole crew just to put down one "heavily injured" on the brink of death pirate captain from the last generation.

Remember Aisa from Skypiea, the little girl? With her mantra, she was able to hear the "voices" of people disappearing. That's what's happening to Koby. He's freaking out because he's literally feeling every life be lost, and that experience is totally new to him; he wasn't born able to use the ability like Aisa was.

Every damn time Luffy's voice actor just slays me. TBF a ton of the emotional stuff is peak in OP, but something about Luffy and his laugh to this type of heartbreak (I ran into this work of art during quarantine just about 10 years after losing my brother in my arms so this hits especially hard) is just beyond S class. Mayumi Tanaka, all praise due!

Shanks stopping the war with basically just words is still one of the best flexes in the series😤 Side note: the mental image popped into my head of Law handing Luffy a repair bill for the submarine once he comes back to his senses, and now I’be got a goofy smile on my face😁 Hope you’re doing well Queen!

Not much more. Jinbei’s an amazing kind of guy, Gotta have guts to step in against a rampaging Luffy. There’s nothing to prepare you seeing Luffy tearing himself apart in denial and grief. I think everybody feels like Hancock in that we all want to rush to his aid.

It's interesting seeing that the old Marines were defending Marineford from Blackbeard, while the current marines are trying to kill the retreating pirates. Then the new generation wants to stop fighting to help the wounded.

Oda is such a champ for not making this another classic "snap" moment where the MC gets super powers from the trauma. Like Goku after Krillin, but instead of super sayian its just raw, broken, and hurt. It really further emphasizes how seriously _human_ Oda makes his characters. No boost to power, just survivor's guilt and PTSD. This is real.

I think there’s an argument to be made that each are just uniquely brilliant but also I agree I’m super biased towards Oda I’m just trying to be nice lol

Shanks is the goat. Imagine just casually strolling up into the middle of a war and both sides collectively say "yeah we don't want any of that." Makes me excited for the day when we see Shanks fight at full power.

Shanks? Yeah he's pretty powerful. Buggy being protective over Luffy was interesting. Once his own safety was threatened, of course he changed his mind but still interesting. Even funnier is how everyone is terrified of Shanks' power, except for Buggy who sees him as the kid he grew up with. Basically brothers. The world has changed. A grave miscalculation by Sengoku. Things are about to get interesting.

Luffy's suffering because of Ace's death is some of the most real feeling storytelling I have seen in manga. And Luffy's voice actress sells it like no one else could.

Coby has the biggest balls of anyone in the series, I swear.

Shanks is one of the only people in this entire series that can stop a war just by threatening to join it, he's so sick

Technically you're already past Marineford and you're in the Post Marineford part, but overall it's all part of the same package. Just a few more episodes and you'll find a part that very clearly feels like this arc has closed, since I know that you keep talking about wanting to discuss this on a livestream.

One thing I loved is at 7:33 when Buggy yells at Shanks' name, his look of disbelief shock and then immediately going into a playful lie to rile up Buggy really shows that even though Buggy might have some bad blood, Shanks still was happy to see Buggy again after so long.

i always loved how shanks starts out as just being some goofy one off pirate to us in the first few episodes then we discover over time hes literally able to end wars just by being there and has this intense power that people dont wanna reckon with.

I love manga, but the music and the VAs in the anime add so much to the characters and the moments they go through. They don’t get enough praise ❤

Agreed, I am a manga first, anime later person but I think Marineford is best watch in anime.

If I recall correctly, no one among Shank's crew is supposed to have a devil fruit ability. The fact his crew has that much respect in a world as outlandish as One Piece speaks volumes.

@QueenBlaze The War of Marineford is a great example of a Pyrhhic victory. What does that mean? It means that it's a victory that has so many devastating consequences that it's the same as a defeat. Sure, the Marines have won the war, but they failed to land a fatal blow with piracy thanks to Whitebeard's final words. Without Whitebeard's protection, several islands are going to chaos because of the increase in piracy. That's not to mention the thousands of Marines who were injured or dead thanks to the conflict. Oh, and then there's Teach letting several criminals escape, and the government doing jack-all to notify the public. Sorry if I'm going on too long, but Marineford is a great example of how to do a war arc in Shonen, and it feels great seeing it through your eyes. 😊

Whenever I picture all the holes that get put in Luffy and think about his survival I can only think of 1 thing.... being a kid with them pink rubber erasers in school shaped like a rhombus and stabbing my pencils into them. When I pull the lead out, it leaves its lead mark but only the tiniest pinprick because the density of the rubber seals the majority of it and when a human has an open wound, the way to mend it is to keep the wound closed which rubber is kinda already doing. Luffy should look like Gen-san from Nami's village by now just off his fight with Kuro in Usopp's village, but that rubber kept him fresh. Proving the point I think is that his eye scar happened *BEFORE* he ate the fruit when he was trying to convince Shanks to let him join, and after being bit by a shark, shanked repeatedly, slashed up....he still only rockin' that eye scar.

Pay attention to Coby feeling all the despair around him.
