THE WAR CONTINUES! Tearing Down A Beaver Den!

Went out into the impound and found the beaver den again. So I decided to tear it down!

    @@jol1958 as he clearly states, and my experience has been, beavers don't reuse the debris that is removed from their dams. I've left it laying long enough to dry and then started a fire on the back side of dams and burned it all on the dam along with the dry part of the dam.

    So, I'm confused. The impound hasn't been used, for its intended purpose, for 30 years. You have no plans on using it, but, you don't want the beavers to use it either...or otters...or turtles....or lilies. So, why not just drain the whole thing and eliminate your problems? Thanks for the video and have a great one!

    Rain and melting snow will fill it up. Lilly’s can be very invasive weeds. To keep on top of things, you need to maintain your property. Otherwise it can get marshy with so much backed up water or even turn into a dry fire hazard. We have a nice smallish sized property and it does take a bit of care.

    I’m telling you, you need to put heavy duty grating on the front of the drain. Half circle shape so it forms a circle when combined with the control drain. It’ll prevent the beavers from putting stuff “in” the drain.

    The sound of running water gives the beaver the alert that there is something wrong and it also leaves their den out of the water. Here in Oklahoma a study was done by the wildlife service with a tape recorder and a external speaker with the sound of running water. they came back the next day and the speaker was covered with mud to muffle the sound and the beaver was trying to stop the running water. to help keep the beaver from putting the debris in the riser take a hog panel and hoop it around the front of the riser and stake it down.

  • @Wyrm1701
    @Wyrm17013 жыл бұрын

    Probably your best way forwards on this is to install a beaver deceiver device, and put the control gate along that somewhere. Beavers are many things, but intelligent is not one of them and a fairly simple underwater inlet to a drain pipe is enough to fool them. They rely on the sound of running water; if they cannot hear that where they are, they don't do anything.

Old mountain trappers prospered trapping this way. Take at least a foot down where they hear it running to fix it. I hope to see a video of winning this.

    Why not install a beaver deceiver cage near the control gate? It would prevent them screwing with your gate and you could let them co-exist with you? I am not a tree hugger defending beavers. I have seen first hand how much damage they cause. When I was still working we had a pack of them that took over a storm detention pond. They actually took woodsy debris up the pipe and blacked the manhole flow. Caused local flooding and pissed everybody off nearby. Lol.

They have plenty of stuff submerged, such as the remnants of food stores after they've eaten them. It is easier for them to transport material via water than to drag it across land. I've seen no evidence of the ones I've dealt with having ever pulled my piles apart to reuse the sticks. And, if I pee around the cut in the dam they are slow to patch the hole.
