    I guess when the fields go on forever you have to have big tractors and 8 wheels. Always a thumbs up.

    There was another company in Great Falls MT that would refurbish old Wagners and they looked a lot like the John Deere. They also designed a drop box that was said to be better but I don’t remember ever seeing one. Way cool that you are interested in keeping them looking good.

    Here in the Waterloo Ia area there were alot of small farms. John Deere always wanted to have good row crop tractors to fill that need. They never saw a need to get into high horsepower till the 90s. As you know the 8850 had problems. Thanks for sharing. John T. Spent alot of time in an 8640, great tractor.

  • @lynwessel2471

    All of the pre 60 series had the potential problem due to the engine block being a frame component. If you ever drove over terrain where the front axle hit the stop it put twisting force on the engine. They had a lot of problems with blown head gaskets. Kinze had his repower engines for those tractors mounted in a sub frame. The 8850s V8 engine was very reliable in stationary applications.

    Nice video! We had a 1967 17 When I was a little dude I would ride with my dad all night long. I laid on the floor and use a sack of wrenches for a pillow and tried to sleep. Got older ran it myself, loved that swamp cooler going off a hill it would run down your back that’s when it worked the best. Good old tractor. Changed farming with crawlers for our family. My uncle always said “that Wagner made the farm”

    Tractor Data says 23 green WA - 14s and 28 green WA-17s were sold. I have a limited edition precision 16th scale JD model WA- 17. Cost me over 300 bucks. My opinion they should have bought and improved this design instead of going with the 7520 thru 8850 design with the engine block part of the frame. JD finally figured that out for the 60 series 20 years later.

  • @groth3395
    @groth33959 ай бұрын

    Cool old Wagner pretending to be JD. The factory was in Portland, OR so my guess is they were built initially for the logging industry. Two quick things: 1) Almost every farm or ranch yard has an old straight truck with a rack of some sort on it. It seldom gets used but is kept running. It's kept because more often than not "grandpa bought it new in '62" or some such. 2) I have rarely met a farmer or rancher who isn't a Christian. They live by their faith, in more ways than one. I love the Cross in the farmyard.

    The guy who developed the Big Buds and his chief mechanic was a Wagner dealer who found himself with no tractor to sell after the John Deere deal so they built their own to sell.

    There is another classic you just showed a shot of, that gold demo IH. A 1256?

    Yeah, we need a longer look at that one. 1970 is when they started doing those so maybe a 1456 or later. I cant tell anymore the big old tractors seem so little now. The Wagner was big for only 225/280 hp.
