My dad and I looked at buying a 6030 with a 6 bottom plow, 8 row planter and cultivator, 21 foot disk, and 5 shank subsoiler for $12,000 back in 1988 but when the seller said it burned 8 gallons of fuel per hour, he didn't purchase it. I was a teenager and sure did enjoy the test drive that Saturday. We had a 3020, 4020, and 4040 though and they were great workhorses. Thanks for the trek down memory lane!

Very cool piece of farm history. It’s interesting because the 6030 was not that highly regarded until the past 10 or 15 years. Had your dad bought that tractor and still had it today he would’ve made a good investment and made his money back threefold.

8 gallon an hour is not too bad for a 6030 , I had a JD 4520 pulling a 22ft JD 230 disc with cone blades that would burn 10 gal an hour and cover 10 acres per hour.

My favorite tractor is my uncles 1974 alischalmers 200 diesel with cab . He used it for tillage and corn planting. He and my grandfather bought it with a 5 bottom plow and 6 row planter and disk for $38000 . He since has retired from farming and still uses it for small tasks. I remember disking with it at 8 years old it has the power director transmission so once he had it in gear I could shift it from high to low range along with neutral and set the park break to get out if I needed to take a leak . He had a wd45 that pulled a 18 foot grain drill for wheat it had a hand clutch I was driving it at 6 while picking stones . We pulled an old truck hood behind it to put the stones on . He used a gleaner f combine with 20 foot head as well. Those were very good times that I'll never forget. Great video keep up the good work!

I'll never forget the sweet sound of the turbocharger spooling up to full power when I'd drop the disc down into the next row after making a turn. Also spent time on irrigation... Pity but I left farming over 30 years ago. Now videos like yours bring the memories flooding back, I also worked on a Victorian farm that had a Waltanna and an 8630 JD the Waltanna would out pull the JD by a huge margin. • @999pr1

We had a 2470 for several years and it was the last Case tractor we bought. It was comfortable to drive all day and had decent power but had many engine problems, some of which Case paid for because of flaws in the liner to block interface that would allow coolant into the oil. We got rid of it and heard soon after the 3 speed power shift went out. That was something to be careful with when it was cold because it was VERY harsh shifting until warmed up and if you pushed the clutch without shifting to low first it would slam you into the steering wheel. It was easy starting in the cold, we cleared a lot of snow with it during the bad winters of the late 70's. It would run the same speed in reverse as forward (13 mph max) which was great for using a 3 pt mounted blade.

It is all a balance. The tractors in this video were the machines that made farms bigger 50 years ago. Now they are small machines in comparison. Running my 4786 and 8850 in a 100 acre field on 30ft implements this fall I found after a few hours those 4wds did not feel big enough pass after pass compared to a 9620RX that was cruising along across the drive way. I really like and respect the farms that run the classic iron. The new machines are good too. It’s just a matter of where and what the farms are.
