@@PaulBradbury If you are ever back in the region, I would recommend visiting Ruzica grad and area around Pozega - Jankovac, Zlatni Lug, Kutjevo etc. This is also one area that is suffering from emigration and neglect because it is not on the seaside.

There are many Croats who wish to do more. The problem is a lack of dedicated resources to bring us together. I find it amazing that for me to find a Croatian worker in Croatia, I need to pay more than I do in the US or Mexico. Why is it so hard to spin up something like a Craigslist for the global Croatian community that stays current? Most Croatian pages die from neglect. The problem extends to the USA, where I offered to contribute but they think in local chapters. I say, why don't we open a chapter for LATAM (Mexico, Caribbean and South America), and ... Crickets. No response.

The more I watch your videos, the more proud I am of my country. Regardless of all the flaws and shortcomings that every society has, listening to you my heart is full. Thanks for all you do and I wish you all the best.

Well said Paul, you are right. I’m an Aussie Croat (parents from Dalmatia) I spent a couple of weeks in Slavonija ( 20 years ago ) and it was as wonderful, people their are the nicest Croatians. Well worth a visit 👍

Thank you Mr. Paul for the video and for promotion. Vukovar is very special in our hearts and everyone in Europe and world needs to know how much Croatia suffered in order to be an independent and democratic country. Unfortunately, Croatia did not have anyone's help at that time and we were alone in that fight, but we showed determination, courage and honor. The whole area around Vukovar is beautiful, Ilok is beautiful and so is Baranja, and we are really glad that you recognized the value of that area and that you are promoting it to the world... It is a great region, and I love heading on east, as I will be next week once again to the Osijek Wine Festival.

As someone from Vukovar, and someone who is looking for ways to bring life to our lovely town, thanks, very very much for this❣️ Its true that people remember Vukovar only when they need votes or likes, espc politicians, its truly sad to see that, Vukovar has always been town of life, before the war it was very live town where young people could enjoy their life and build their future, factories where here, people worked hard and were happy, but then war and chetnicks came and everything stopped, everything moved from Vukovar to Zagreb or other parts of our country.. Our brave soldiers fought for our home (my 6 family members, 2 for Dubrovnik (uncles) and 4 for Vukovar; my grandma and 3 uncles, 2 uncles died defending and I never met them)..but they were betrayed by politicians that didnt let those willing to defend and fight, some fighters of HOS enter and fight bc they already decided that the Vukovar needed to fall.. Its very painful to see how they view and behave towards our home, our town, yet if there was no Vukovar and our family members, there would be no modern day Croatia.. Thanks again for this❣️

I want one, sounds a fabulous trip, Im an expat from dalmacija and tend to spend august in my home village just outside Biograd. It would be a welcome escape frome the hordes ;)

I can said I am happy about this promotion of Baranja and Vukovar and just a little sad about it at same time. Sad only from personal side. I am from Zagreb and already been there 10-15 times with my wife and bring friends even from Germany to see and feel this beautiful part of Croatia. So I am a bit afraid of mass tourist coming to Baranja will make it more commercial. In the end it is not important me being said, important is to make this region visible and recognized so it can grow up to the sky. For sure people over there deserve it!!! Thanks again for promoting Baranja, Ilok and Vukovar.

I have toured the east of Croatia, to many of the places you mentioned including the Vućedol museum. It is a beautiful and largely forgotten part of Croatia to visit. Great restaurant and so many good wines. I visited Vukovar many times during the conflict working for UNHCR. The devastation was total. I have visited since and it is great to see the town has been totally rebuilt but I feel it is also very important to visit the memorial and reflect on the tragedy that occurred there.

Hi Paul! Really impressive research of my homeland. I did not know Steve had his pub, gotta visit it soon. Love the fact you are soaking in every aspect of Croatia to the point you become a Croat. I appreciate your perspective and you have a valid point when you address the issue with Vukovar only having spotlight for one day in a year. I lived in the county my whole life, including the period of war albeit I was in exile too. Croatia won the war against all odds, sacrifice of our defenders is precious to us and will never be forgotten. Although I love Vukovar like every other place in Croatia, it always had this heavy, lead atmosphere in the air, even in the sunny, summer afternoon. I believe this is mainly due to coexistence with our neighbours, who to this day lack remorse for the atrocities they committed. One case in point is the fact we still seek for over 1800 people lost in war, they know where their bodies are yet they are still committed to their satanic ideas. Maybe the above thought needs more clarity but I hope you got the picture.

Otkud pomisao da većina Hrvata ne zna ništa o istoku Hrvatske? Dosta pretenciozno od bilo koga. Inače se slažem sa većinom toga što kaže g. Bradbury, pratim na portalu i tv emisijama, ali ovako pretpostavljati da većina Hrvata o Vukovaru misli prigodno ili da 18.11. većini služi za reklamu jednostavno je pogrešno. Puna podrška svemu što doprinosi promociji istočne Hrvatske, kartica je super ideja. Međutim, dan sjećanja kao praznik i služi tomu da se sjetimo određenih događaja i ljudi. Svaka država ima takav dan, i Engleska sigurno pa nitko ne govori o tome na ovaj način. Osim što je kod nas to bilo nedavno i ima previše ljudi koji se sjećaju kako je bilo i tko je kriv, a to nam se uporno, prikriveno ili ne, želi zamaskirati s time da se treba zaboraviti i krenuti dalje. Oprostiti da, zaboraviti ne i u tome bit 18.11. i ne treba ga pretvarati ni u šta drugo. Ostalih 364 dana, da, svakako.

HI Blazenka, saying that Croats know little about eastern Croatia comes after talking to lots of Croats not from the east. I have asked 70 people in Zagreb the following 3 questions, and only one got all 3 correct, which says to me that the majority don't know much about eastern Croatia: 1. What is the biggest town in Baranja? 2. Name 3 famous buildings in eastern Croatia, not including the Vukovar Water Tower. 3. Name 3 Slavonian dishes not including kulen. Hvala na vašem komentaru. Imam skroz druga iskustva. Živim u Zagrebu, nemam nikakve rodbinske veze sa Slavonijom a lako znam odgovor na sva tri pitanja, za probu sam pitala svoje šire društvo i velikom većinom su znali, istina ne svi. Molim nemojte misliti da kritiziram, znam da volite Hrvatsku jer inače ne biste živjeli tu. Ljudi su osjetljivi na Vukovar zbog toga što nam se i taj jedan dan sjećanja na nešto strašno pokušava oduzeti kao da mi svi( ili bar većina) ne želi da Vukovar živi punim plućima. Trebate znati da se puno predratnih Vukovaraca nije vratilo u grad, žive u Zagrebu, Puli i drugdje jer su toliko propatili da ne mogu biti blizu mjesta tolike patnje. Gradu kao i ljudima treba vremena jer nekima se 30 godina čini puno i dovoljno vremena nekima baš i ne dok još uvijek traže svoje nestale,a ljudi koji to znaju žive tu ili blizu u drugoj državi i iz čiste zlobe ne žele reći. Samo kažem da taj jedan dan ne treba uspoređivati sa ostalim danima jer sigurno više od 90% ljudi u koloni stvarno odaje počast, a pozera ima svugdje i ne treba im davati pozornost. Još jednom, hvala vam na svemu što radite za hrvatski turizam i promociju Hrvatske, pomažete i nama da budemo bolji i više cijenimo ovaj komad zemlje gdje živimo.

@@blaz4540 he's right do, i do hate even seeing it on that day exactly because of politicians and clergy acting like politicians and worse sometimes. As for the questions, yeah there are catherdrals, castles/pallaces, fortifications and so on, dishes there are many, stew like and solid, cured meat and so on, fish and pork, and ofc beli manastir, now i'm from vt which is technically slavonia but also podravina, half way between zg and os, but i'm not sure he's not right even for the locals here, i think it depends on your circles and your generation, i know i didn't know half the stuff as a student, especially for the dishes, granted my sister studied in os and married over the bridge in baranja so i got some insights, croatia is very regional, i bet a lot of slavonians don't know many castles in zagorje beyond trakoscan and veliki tabor if they even heard about the latter.

We are such a crazy nation that we need a Brit to organize amazing things like this and on the other hand if we get attcked everyone is up for war to defend every meter of the land we gace 0 f about the day before. I lost my father in that war and my grandfathers were in previous wars so I decided to raise my family in Canada. I love your channel Sir.

I like the idea, yes! Hopefully Ministrica will do smth about it. And you are so very correct about Croats not knowing their country. Most of us Dalmatians have never been to east Croatia…and I know it s beautiful, like another country, totally different Look and feel to it. Especially tourists could have discounts to tourist sites :). Btw Paul I must say I didn’t like your “radodajka” video, I think big majority of Croats are polite and don’t say such things. And also, I teach Croatian to UK folks and it s always official language that anyone should start with…the rest are vocabulary differences between regions. I have a pupil who speaks Russian besides his mother tongue English and he s already sooo good in speaking Croatian, after 1 year only! So , I bet you can speak and understand well after 20 yrs. (I m referring here to your video about you giving up on Croatian).stay well and keep up the good work!

It is still a concept, which the Minister of Tourism supports if someone takes it forward. As I am being sued by the Croatian National Tourist Board, I don't think I am the right person for that.

this is the reason i moved out, i couldn't stand the hypocrisy, this is so sad it breaks my heart every time. u should talk to Bojan Glavašević about it, he's son of Vukovar's hero journalist Siniša Glavašević, he's politician, but not hypocrite nationalist, i think u will find that there r ppl who actually care about that part of Croatia that suffered the most and is still suffering.

Since independence whole economy is directed towards the see and, today, after joining the Schengen, to the west. The whole economy is based on who has the parcel closest to the see. The further you are from the see the worse.

The thing is... Vukovar has this one day and then everbody forgets abut it... ok, thats true.. but... how many days does Imotski have? How many day does Krapina have? How many days does Čakovec, Gospić, Karlovac have? So complaining about having only one day and than being forgotten is not the way. But rather coming up with some idea on how to engage the people and their want to come, like you did with the Vukovar card, now that is the solution!

It would be nice if the Vukovar Card became a reality, as it is a win all round. Imotksi etc has a lot of tourism. I think the point with Vukovar is that this is the city of heroes that will never be forgotten, and for 364 days of the year, it is totally forgotten.

It is beautiful part of this planet. I know for sure as I was living in Osijek for some years, but after all those years you've spent in Croatia (I have to admit) you, obviously, haven't understand psychology of the people in that part of the world (not included only Croatia, but Bosnia as well). Initially you can make some 1000 or so members, very enthusiastic people, with that card and they are going to present that card to gain 10% discount and once they leave Dalmatia, they are going to forget all about it for another 363 days about all struggling in those awful years. Your idea is awesome, but it doesn't apply in that part of the world. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for your comment which I respect but disagree. When i presented this to the people of Vukovar, as well as the Minister of Tourism, both were very enthusiastic. It is a great way for the diaspora to connect with and learn about the magic of the east. Almost everyone i know who has been to Slavonia has been wowed by the experience and has returned.

@@PaulBradbury I honestly would like your idea to take off, as I really like that part of the country. Beautiful countryside, awesome wine, nice food and above all, nice, nice and I mean really nice people, and as you go more into the country, in smaller towns and villages, seems to me, they are friendlier and somehow,.... calm. Love that part of Croatia although, I've spent my childhood in Dalmatia in Split, and above all, wishing you everything best in your project. To be honest, I would like to be involved in your project but, as you may know, I am unfortunately located on the other side of the planet. Best regards

You see, from the perspective of Dalmatian, I have always felt so bad about the Eastern Croatia, I visited only Pozega and area there, and I have always imagine it as truly beautiful and the most slavic part of Croatia if I can say, plain terrain, fields, horses, castles, it was all about that, right? And it is a shame what happend, how depopulated it became (I won't speak about the war, as I don't speak about WW2 there, I restrain myself only to my family and what happend in Dalmatia), and I find it funny, how people from there are so nice, and polite, that in comparation we in Dalmatia are rude, loud, complaining, but the thing is their nice attitude with this government is not working. One must be either rude and loud like in Dalmatia, or kinda treatening with separation like Istria. There is nobody to be nice to, of croatians politicians, one must be rude and treat and as much and loud as it can. And they always say, Dalmatians are complaining and they live better, but ofc, that is why they got to live better, richer. They must do the same thing.

I am watching your recent videos, and you are mentioning this concept of having a win-win situation, like this would benefit everybody. No, this will not happen. It is them who are controlling your life, you mustn't win under any circumstances. Even if they have to lose because of that, for sure they will not let you win. So, as you can clearly see, here it can only be lose-lose, or win-lose situation, not a win-win, forget it. As you can read from my answer to some post on your "3 stages" video, this is the attitude that comes out of Catholic church, this is why all those nations where catholic church is strong are poor. They tend to control people's lives, people cannot win, they are suppose to be powerless, it is catholic church that it has all the control over the situation, over people, no "win" for people.

BTW, I can go deeper into all this, if anybody wants to hear it. This situation comes a long way ago, if you think that people all over the world will want a win-win situations, no, this plainly doesn't happen. Only people who evolved around sees, who were fishing, like Greeks, or Germanic tribes, can understand that every humans has equal rights. Agricultural societies got to have hierarchy for them to survive, so they evolved in societies where people try to find their place in hierarchy, not in societies where people were equal. Societies that were herding cattle (like Turkic tribes) are less hierarchical, more open, more moveable, but also conquering societies. But only societies where national dish is "fish and chips" actually do understand democracy, everybody else are blind for it, they don't see it, they don't understand it, they don't see logic in it. They think that you got to have hierarchy to survive, and this in embedded in their souls, you cannot change it in a matter of few years, few hundred years, or even few thousand years, no matter how much you would like to.

@@RPlavo I am 61, on all the intelligence tests throughout my life I was always the best in the group, I am living in Zagreb, so I've seen a lot. And yes, I do have the First Communion (in Catholic church, Church of St.Peter in Vlaska street, Zagreb), but I don't have Confirmation. I mean, I could write 10 pages about it regarding Croatia, which we can discuss for ages, because you would have to peal off layer upon layer of lies that surround you, but instead I'll mention things that you can easily check on. For example, Church (every church, every religion) revolves around the question of Genesis. This was the very first question, the first religious question, the first scientific question. So, we have two views on this. There is a Christian view that God created the world in 7 days. As opposing to this we have scientific views. So, believers adopted the religious view, and we even have priests who devoted their whole life to the religious view. This means celibacy and everything, they are completely devoted to God, they devoted their whole life to God, to the idea that God is the creator, and that he created everything in 7 days. Well, what are scientific views, then? First we have the Big Bang theory, how the Universe was created. My hobby is paleoanthropology, science of the evolution of humans. A laymen would think that scientists adopted Darwin's theory, but at the turn of 21st century Darwin's theory was replaced with the Genetic Mutation Theory. The problem is that the Genetic Mutation Theory is the opposite of Darwin's theory. So, this is the real theory of 21st century, the Genetic Mutation Theory. Go to Wikipedia, and find out who are the authors of those two theories (The Big Bang Theory, and The Genetic Mutation Theory), and you will find out something that you never could dream of.

@@RPlavo Jesus, it looks like the things have changed a lot lately, now the fact that the Big Bang theory was invented by Catholic priest Georges Lemaitre was deeply buried and camouflaged into big pile of data. Also, there is no more article on Genetic Mutation Theory, although, trust me, in the last 20 years evolution scientists talked only about it, so I really don't know how you can find that the author is Georg Mendel, Catholic priest.

Not sure I agree re the Church. I am half-Irish and the Catholic Church has had just as big an influence in Ireland as in Croatia, and Ireland is doing pretty well, for example.

He's not Croatian... he has no right to comment!!
