HVALA Paul !

Great video Paul. Eastern Croatia is beautiful, but my hometown Osijek deserves to be praised also. Especially my former highschool, Gymnasium, which produced two Nobel prise winners Leopold Ružićka and Vladimir Prelog. Let us not forget Tvrđa, and National park Kopački Rit in Baranja. Dear Paul, your videos are great, you know more about Croatia, that some Croatians does. I went to school in Požega. Now living in Germany, for about 30 years. Požega has this beautiful autumn Festival "Zlatne žice Slavonije", it is worth visiting. Take care, God bless and keep on making videos, we love your content!

The only problem about festivals in Slavonia is I can't see straight for a week after...
If you already haven't, I recommend you to come to Vinkovci in September during "Autumns of Vinkovci" (Vinkovačke jeseni). The place is packed and there's a lot of activities going on. One of the best and most fun times of the year to be in town.

Going there gives me that feeling of being a tourist and almost a stranger in my own country

Thank you! Well if you are a mountain person, I can understand why Slavonia is not top of your list, haha, but it is an incredible region. It is a pity that so few locals go there and discover it. It really is an amazing place with fantastic people.
Vukovar, I was born there on the banks of the Danube river. But we got outta dodge when I was 3 and hopped it to Australia, I would have been at just the right military age in 1990 to eat some lead if we had stayed.
What about Nature park Papuk that is the only Geo park in Croatia, Jankovac - beautiful forest park, hundreds of kilometers of hiking and bike roads on Psunj & Papuk, Lipik - one of the most beautiful picturesque small town in Croatia with famous State stud farm? Also, Iločki podrumi are the oldest, but best wines from Croatia come from Kutjevo region thet is also worth the visit. It's a shame you didn't mention Požeško-slavonska region at all that also had a lot to offer for more active tourism. This is the best of Osijek, Erdut & Baranja but NOT all Slavonija. Best regards Paul :)

Thanks for your comment. Kutjevo wines are great, but for me (even without the story), I prefer the wines of Ilok. We have many more videos to come and have already featured places like Djakovo. @@PaulBradbury I see what you mean, and this was purely geographical remark, due to the fact that we (Western Slavonia) were completely left out of this video, so I wish the title was more specific. And regarding (regional or local) branding, oh, we are nowhere near that, if only we had proper national or regional tourist organisation to deal with that🤔.... Until then, we are sticking to traditional, geographic terms. Sorry, I'm just jealous, as you can see :))))😆😆

@@PaulBradbury it's not really true, Tesla's family are all ethnic Serbs (his dad was even a Serbian orthodox priest.) We have the best country in the world, we have the ideal climate, aboundence of water sources, the mountains of Lika, the Adriatic sea, the fruitful fields of Slavonia... We have the history noone talks about because of the eradication and brainwashing of the previous system(s) and the ignorance of the current government. We forgot all that made us who we are today. Luckily we occasionally have foreign people coming to Croatia to remind us of what they would be proud of if they were us. This relevation happened to most of the western european countries that were hit by the distructive war, so I guess it's our turn now. Thanks Paul.

@@PaulBradbury Serbia and Serbians, because of 500 years slavery under the Ottomans have a big history hole,. This hole they try to fill stealing the history from neighbouring countries, Croatia and Montenegro. Mostly from Croatia. Many Croats, because of terror and censorship in ex Yugoslavia have fallen on this Serbian propaganda believing that Tesla and Milenkovic were Serbians. So many people in Croatia are still believing in this yugo and Serbian "history"! That is a very big problem in Croatia. Of course, there is much of ignorance too!
