It is SO trippy when she slips into the Indian singing. It's almost like sound is being warped. It sounds so deep and ancient. Just magical.

There was no Pakistan or Bangladesh when Rags were invented. So no matter how much you hate India, stop being petty and accept what the truth is. Doesnt make you or your country small.

@@shivanisuresh She's a trained carnatic vocalist and a Srilankan-Tamil. Confusion cleared? Good.

There're many contestants with different cultural backgrounds in nowadays talent shows, but Abi is probably the only one who can fuse her own things with general pop music on the stage.

The indian thing was simply amazing. And the high pitch voice... Stunning.

A whole lot of it is - say you have 5 words in a line, and you can spend hours on stage changing it more and more in live performances. But you need to have trained for years to get that

oh my god, i'm speechless. the way she just came in with the Indian classical part. it was flawless and beautiful.

It's not that the judges didn't want to turn around, it's just that they didn't have the knowledge to deal with such a niche genre. Not even Sir Tom has any experience with Hindustani Classical music or ragas despite his prolific career. Abi vocal range and clever musicianship sadly went unnoticed :(

That's good! How did you like it though? R u non-Indian? I'm always curious to know what British or American folk think of Indian music, ragas especially. Hindustani music usually doesn't blend well with other genres and it takes technical understanding of prosody, metre, time signature and years of vocal training to create a phonetically pleasant fusion the way Abi did. How do you feel she could have structured it better? I think she studied with a guru to execute the tricky melisma she did before flipping into her stratospheric upper register.

+Chan She's doing a 'brika' which is common to both Hindustani and Carnatic music, but it doesn't conform to either type strictly. It's just "Indian", for want of a better word.

When she slipped into raga time literally stopped. She is flawlessly beautiful and her voice..Enough said.

Still here in 2019. Most iconic audition I've ever watched

It's not fair when they come on late in the season and so many slots are filled.

I can't live without this video. I have to come back and regularly watch and get shivers down my spine, this is unbelievable.

After a year, I'm still coming back here to see Abi. Great, but it's a really great performance.

The singing was okay, but the indian classical part was just beautiful.

It's 2019 and from time to time I get here to hear this fantastic version.

If you follow her on Facebook as I do, you will realise, as I just did, that she can bring tears to your eyes with both her singing and playing. Abi Sampa is a stunning find for me and I was so touched by both her voice range and skill on her electric Sitar I think its called. Wow, I listened to it 5 times in a row and I had just found gold. So naturally I wanted to follow her voice, searching for her music, yet not finding her on Spotify was heartbreaking. She has a truly stunning range of sound and I will continue to follow her voice for a long time to come.

Good. Then hopefully, if you live in the west, you will join me in returning to India, the motherland. A race war is coming to the USA and Europe and we don't want to be caught in the middle. India has been drained of some of its finest minds due to the migration of Indian doctors, scientists, etc. Let us return and better our country, make it something we can be proud of, and stop leeching off the west.
