    Actually he is NOT under rated by professional musicians. Those who can discern his "style" of drumming atest he is one of the top drummers in R&R As vocalist no one paid attention but again pro musicians had known all along the absolute importance of Roger on most QUEEN records. I don't think the general public can discern his contribution.

    Roger Taylor to me always had some of the most powerful vocal moments in Queen songs. I always chuckle a little when listening to "My Fairy King" because Roger Taylor seems to be just so good at singing even higher than you would expect in a very short span of time. Roger Taylor is easily one of the greatest Rock and Roll singers of all time.

    Roger easily could've been one of the stand-out lead singers of his era. An inspiration for me to play multiple instruments, as I read the liner notes in SHA as a kid and thought it must be a misprint that Roger played guitar on the occasional track. My 9-year old mind couldn't fathom this fact. Because Roger was a musical drummer, he played for the song. How he isn't ranked higher as one of the most powerful rock drummers is beyond me, but what do I know? Certainly live he couldn't be ignored as he is a beast. Growing up in the 70s, Queen was by far my favorite band, and as their hits and popularity soared through the golden years, many rock "critics" absolutely hated on Queen. I never understood why. But Roger's voice, to me, was always like Rod Stewart, but with actual power behind it, and more clarity. A smooth, gravely sound which seems an oxymoron but I've no other way to describe it really. Just a super talent all-around, with a drumming approach all his own and a voice and range like no other.

    There's a scream Roger did at Somebody To Love around the part after Freddie sang "I'm gonna face no defeat". Any chance you know what is that? btw, his scream at My Fairy King started as a G5 turning to an A5 right?

  • @TomMilleyMusic

    @TomMilleyMusic

    7 жыл бұрын

    it's not. high notes are going to sound thin by nature, but you can tell it's not falsetto because it's clear and bright. falsetto sounds kind of muted and flute like, and usually kind of breathy. most people can actually hit higher notes without falsetto than with it.

  • @Mustistics

  • @TomMilleyMusic

    @TomMilleyMusic

    7 жыл бұрын

    For sure it's in M2 and not M1, but what I meant and probably should have been more clear about is it's not the "falsetto sound" normally associated with M2. It's a more bright, open, and reinforced sound, and most people can go higher like that than they can with traditional falsetto. And counter tenors sing in falsetto by the way.

  • @xthatghomiex2939

    Tom Milley Music I can sing just short of Roger, D6, but there's no way in hell I can sing a Bb5 in chest voice. I use a reinforced falsetto, called head voice. It has almost the exact same tone as Roger's high notes. It's very easy to produce a strong, bright sound if you push the sound way forward.

    Roger has a great voice but he doesn't have the charisma to be a lead vocalist but again he is a great singer but as he once said the voice of Freddie was getting better with time and his was getting worse haha . Anyway he is one of the best drummers ,He is the member of the most complete band that ever lived .. he is not just a great drummer but he wrote some of the superb hidden gems from Queen .. great musician,singer,drummer best band on the planet .. Roger wouldn't be a legend without the others as Freddie wouldn't be what he was and is without his band mates .. I think all of them contributed their best which gave the band 100% the magic formula that they had now if one of them is missing then you can tell there is something missing and now without John and Freddie is not the same but seeing Roger and Brian now touring the world is a new oportunitie for fans who never got the chance to see the 4 of them to go and see them even if is with Adam as they still have that incredible sound and a few years more can be too late to see this legends .

    Most people think that Freddie is the heart of Queen. But I think, each and every Queen member has a big importance in Queen's success as much as Freddie. If any of those four was someone else, Queen wouldnt be Queen. Roger is a unique drummer with is playing style, fill-ins and sound. And of course his amazingly high pitched voice is a big big part of Queen's polyphonic vocals which is the trademark of Queen.
