Why you need vintage watches
Up until now we have focused purely on new watches that are readily available online. However for episode 4, I think its time we have a look at something completely different...
Vintage watches have been increasing in popularity year on year. One only needs to look at popular examples from Rolex such as the Paul Newman Daytona or the 5513 Submariner to know all of these models have massively increased in value
Unfortunately all of the above references are now more than £10,000 so can’t make an appearance in this series, however there is a watch which equally has similar charm and history...
A brief history Of Caravelle Watches
Caravelle was introduced in 1962 as a way for popular watch manufacture Bulova to create and offer consumers a wider range of watches at a lower price point.
Commonly priced around $10 - $30, Caravelle was Bulova's more affordable line up, a way for them to produce models for the market without potentially harming or de-valuing the Bulova name.
Think of Bulova as Rolex and Caravelle as Tudor if you will, Fast forward a few years to 1968 and Caravelle had cracked the US becoming the largest selling jewelled movement watch.
This exact model we have here is called the Caravelle SeaHunter.
As expected with older watches, the Caravelle comes in smaller than our modern interpretation of divers watches with a case width of 36.5mm, a lug to lug distance of 44mm and a thickness of around 11mm.

I now have a CARAVELLE by BULOVA introduced c1962 - 32.8mm - self winding watch, it has a black dial, raised silver trainable makers, date function at ‘15’, silver numerals at ‘6’, ‘9’ and ‘12’, features a sweep second hand in silver, lume on the hands that’s original, although faded, dots on the outer dial every 5 minutes.
Great review. Learned so much. Thank you!
Great review. And love the caravelle. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Craig! Thanks for the kind words.
Keep the great work❗️👏🏻👏🏻 Love this watch.
I, and my 2 friends into watches all have one of the Swiss made ones with the 2472 movement. Two of three don't have the 666 on the dial, and one is on an original strap. I love these watches.
Great review on a lesser known iconic affordable diver from the Vietnam war era. They’re such a solid build and feel great on the wrist. Quite the look without the bezel too (very Explorer style)!
The watch I wear everyday is an Eterna Matic Super Kontiki from 1966. It still keep great time. I like this Caravelle, especially with that metal bracelet.
Excellent informative review.

Thanks Simon! We appreciate your continued support.
Fell in love with this piece when I was just getting into watches. Coincidentally, it was also shooting up in value at the time. Never got one, opting for the Baltic Aquascaphe instead. I still think it’s a charming watch, especially on the jubilee. I love the reference with the dauphine hands.
Great video! You just got yourself a new follower👍🏻

Thank you! We're glad you enjoyed this review. Make sure to check out our next video.
I bought one of these a few years ago from a second hand shop, the automatic with date version, unfortunately its missing the rotating bezel. Do you still have the bezel you took off? Would love to find one for my watch.
You guys should look into the cost of manufacturing a fixed, plain bezel for this watch. i'd buy one for sure.
The huge irony of the Caravelle line, is that they were made by Citizen, the current owner of Bulova. And the very reason why the Precisionist and Hi Frequency / 262 hz Accutron ll lines exist. If they didn't, Bulova, would have likely joined their dead brethren ie. Waltham, Benrus and Gruen ! … just sayin' ;)
I bought the Seahunter 666 automatic new 7:30 left watch and it was damaged beyond repair. Still looking for a used one at a decent price. My Q is, why Bulova doesn’t reissue these watches. If they did, I would gladly pay for one. Look at the Heuer Monaco (Steve McQueen) model that was reissued. Thank god they left off the word Tag. IMO there’s a market for these reissued watches especially if you are a Boomer and bought these new back in the good ol days.
That caravelle is just simply beautiful , I’m completely jealous. !

Love this watch. So I bought one for myself. I would like to find out where to get the jubilee or oyster style bracelet for it. The one sold by Gecko doesn’t have the end links ... it’s a pity :-( Can anyone help?

Have you ever found an oyster style for this watch? Still looking for one for mine :(
Jeeeez that crystal slab on this watch.
Why can't they make watches like this nowadays without the crazy price tag...
LINDO RELÓGIO, BRASIL OK.
Nice watch but for some reason it looks like it's missing the bezel.
What's the price on them
Great content....may i know your lens :)

WHERE DID YOU GET THAT FOR £200???
Water Resistance *666* feet 👌
I've been looking at the devil diver a while now, but the times of 200-500$ in nice condition are mostly over for nicer vintage watches. I can only find these for around a 1000$ and up. Kind of ruins the vintage charm for me unfortunately...

@@watchgecko That's true, I hope I'll be able to find a nice deal sometime in the future! €600+ for a vintage watch is difficult to justify for me with all the hassle that can come with a vintage watch. Especially if I can't see it in person first, which is the case most of the time :-) Thanks for the reply by the way. Looking forward to the next one!
