The View from this PNW Fire Lookout was INSANE!

Cascade mountain fire lookouts almost NEVER disappoint, so when I see them on a map, I'm always eager to explore them and see what the view looks like from the top.
This weekend, Christine and I set out on an adventure to see if we could make it to the top of the Sun Top fire lookout in the Cascade mountains of Washington State.

I was up there in November about 40 years ago. It looks the same except for the new deck. There was a camping area right before the road climbs up to the lookout. We walked the road up to the top in the snow. There was no gate and all of the window shutters were down. The lookout was listed as the second best place to view the mountain without being on the mountain.

Glad that you went up there this year the work on that fire look out has been done by volunteers last year they put on a new roof and the gravel trail going from the parking lot to the look out was done by a kid to earn his eagle scout badge and this year volunteers build the deck for the Fire Outlook volunteers also take care of Kelly Butte and Granite Mountain Lookout and donations from people have helped for maintaining these three fire outlooks there is a sigh on the look out where you can donate, or you can stop at the ranger station in Enumclaw for information or look it up on line to the volunteers. I would like to say great job on the work that has been done on that fire outlook.😊

Those are some great views from there. Longer hike but if you’re up for it the lookout on Kelly Butte isn’t too far away fantastic views as well. If you want to see Rainier even closer check out High Rock Lookout, hike isn’t too long but it’s steep and totally worth it. It’s so rare to come across super clean campsites, it’s nice to see others that care about the wilderness.

Now that I've watched it, it was always unmanned, shutters closed but could always drive to it. It's been upgraded for the handicapped, cool. Was put on historic places list in 1987. Believe last time we camped there was couple yrs after that. Brings back tons of memories, thxs! I lived in WA for 35 yrs.

Great video! Suntop is awesome. Last time I was there, a few folks and I biked from the lookout down to 410. Great to see they added a deck since the last time I was there!

It really is! Yeah, it looks like they were in the final stages of a renovation. We were surprised to have the whole lookout to ourselves

Nice! We saw a couple ADV's while we were up there. I made a mental note to take my R1200GS up there. That's a perfect GS road!
