Juventus fan here. What a player Vialli was, he could score in all manners a striker should - left foot, right foot, headers, first-time shots, shots after dribbles in close ranks, long range blasts, volleys, everything. He was very talented but also very mobile, his constant running could wear out a full defence. Always liked his celebrations, he exploded with joy when it actually made sense, otherwise he was just happy to have done his job. Nothing like the shows players put up today. He was sure of himself but not arrogant, actually he often came out as - if not humble - capable of listening. He was quite combative but also clean and loved fair play and especially playing for the team. And he was a clever nice bloke off the pitch too, never heard him say anything stupid. A great guy, a true image of the football that was, the romanticized but also truly more romantic game of the 1980s and 1990s, both for us Italians and I guess for you guys in England. So sorry he has left us

I am so sorry for the loss of Gianluca May he RIP and condolences to his family. From a spurs fan.😢😢😳😳💙💙
Just heard the awful news that he's passed away. Not a Chelsea fan but utmost respect to this legend, what a player and by all accounts a lovely genuine person too. RIP Vialli.
RIP legend 🇮🇹 you was such a class talent
R.I.P. unbelievable player, I remember watching the game in the snow I think it was against p.s.v, it was on Halloween night and I just got in from trick or treating, it got to about the 70th minute and I remember thinking this is ridiculous the amount of snow coming down on the pitch
he was part of the rebirth of chelsea, a complete legend, we love you luca.
Never got to watch him live, before my time, but what a player, insane eye for goal, also have heard nothing but great things about him as a person. RIP
Rest in eternal peace Gianluca Vialli beyond him being a wonderful striker and player what I remember most fondly is his gentlemanly nature and how he learnt English so well consuming as much British culture as he could. Condolences to his family and Italy, but especially his children and wife.
When the ball hits the back of the old trafford net it's vialli
From a West Brom fan who loved that chelsea team. It was a privilege to watch you and chelsea beat us 3-0 in the FA cup 97, you came off the bench you were were wonderful. Zola destroyed us!. One more fight come on!!!

Exquisite goals, especially the once scored on snow!
I got to know Chelsea during this era, the only club during that time with many Italian players. During this era, both the Italian league and its national team were top class.
Makes me nostalgic for players managers. Thanks for the memories Gianluca. Vialli Vialli Vialli Vialli Vialli
Rest in Peace, Luca... as Chelsea fan since 1997, he is the first Bomber i ever watch in Chelsea jersey... before Jimmy Hasselbaink and Didier Drogba...

Rip Luca, was proud to be at every home game in the 90s, watching you was an utter joy, thanks for the memories, you made those season tickets worth every penny. Especially the great 4-2 FA cup comeback vs Liverpool, rest well say hello to Wilkins for us x

He was just a great guy. A great player, but even greater as a person. He will be missed. He loved England, loved Chelsea and Chelsea loved him. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones. He was such a great person and it was a genuine pleasure to share a dressing room with him and call him my teammate. Sometimes you don’t fully recognise the greatness of someone’s talent until you’re in their presence, and that was the case with him. He’ll be very sadly missed.” Mark Hughes
Outstanding player. The fact that he was never employed in Italy’s national team between 94-98 gives an idea of what was the squad’s competition level at the time. A whole different era compared to today

The Sampdoria team team that won the Italian league in 1991 was a magnificent feat led by Vialli (their only ever title) when considering it was the strongest league in the world up against the superb Milan team, The Inter team with the World Cup winning Germans, Juventus with Baggio, reigning champions Maradonas Napoli as well as the other big contenders with all world class players.

Was a really interesting time back when Chelsea had these Italian players like Di Matteo, Vialli and Zola. Back in the 90's Serie A was imo the strongest league in Europe, so it was quite nice to have these players plus Ravanelli, Lombardo, Di Canio and Carbone all playing in the PL.

Buon Viaggio Gianluca...grazie per tutto quello che hai fatto per noi💙
Love those old 90's Chelsea shirts - so baggy and voluminous. Looks like he's about to take off! Forgotten how much white there was in those shirts. These shirts (from 97/98) may have been the last Home shirts to have this much white on the sleeves.
@wpg5225
2 жыл бұрын
It's not only Chelsea's shirt, but all other teams. It's only recent decades that players wanted fitter jerseys which also started by the Italians during the world cups in 2002/2006 if not mistaken.
@robtyman4281
2 жыл бұрын
@@wpg5225 true. The 90's was the 'baggy' decade as far as clothes/general fashion was concerned. This of course spread across into sportswear, and football club shirts. It was the thing to wear things that looked slightly too big for you. Close fitting clothes are something that came in during the 00's, and largely remains the case today
RIP Gianluca. What a player!!
