About the friend thing about Otto... just remember that Subaru doesn't have any friends in the real worldl and how his trauma in the school. So someone saying that they are their friend is really something to him. He's so used not having friends, that he doens't even get Otto saying the word in relation to him.

Not to mention, how Subaru got friends as he grew up was by doing crazy antics and trying super hard just for his "friends" to eventually leave him. So having someone just claiming to be his friend from a few short moments with Otto where Subaru wasn't actively trying to impress him must seem like a very foreign/strange concept to him given his personal experience.

Yeah sure, they have misunderstood that scene but they also don't hate him nearly as much as some people in the comments of these videos make it out to be. Come on, if they actually did as these people say they wouldn't feel bad for him in the tea party. Roshi even says he feels bad for him and "poor guy" here 24:10. If you wanna actually see someone hate on and trash talk a character without merit then check out Rob from RTTV's reactions to Hunter x Hunter hating on Killua,the 3 here aren't even half as bad as that..... You wouldn't cry over a character you hated, and Lupa clearly did cry there at the end of episode 8....

Fun fact: the author has said if it wasn’t for the clever girl scene in Jurassic park he probably wouldn’t have thought about the rabbit death. Edit: know I’m late but on a relook got it messed up, it was the scene where the old got went to go pee and was chased up the river by little raptors only for Blood to be shown coming back down. it really sucks bc each death even tho he resets his pain tolerance probably increases which is why he's able to stay awake longer when dealing with pain and not immediately pass out after losing a hand or go into shock at the lose of multiple limbs/massive blood loss.

He only ever wins in the finals loop, we always see how pathetic he is. So people who aren’t used to anime with “loser” MCs will be more judgmental. It seems they like the show or they wouldn’t he continuing it. I love Subaru btw one of my fav anime protags of all time. But he’s difficult to like at this point in the story. Each arc, Subaru becomes more and more reliable and likable and cool

@@fili0938 I would argue arc 1-4 Subaru is a loser. I mean that in an endearing way btw because most people are losers by definition. I don’t often win things or have things go my way, Im sure its the same for you. Especially true when you become an adult. Arc 1-2 sets up Subaru to be sympathetic, arc 3 challenges his character and forces him to do what necessary to get what he wants. Arc 4 test Subarus self confidence and self worth, and trust of others. Each arc Subaru becomes less and less of a “loser”. I also think most people WOULD be able to do this. Its like some spiderman shit, it doesn’t matter who had the power. Return by Death made Subaru become someone willing to risk his life. It gave him a chance, not just to survive. But save his friends, and changes himself for the better

He legit went insane because how the hell does the normal brain deal with or even rationalize the sensations of being EATEN ALIVE afterwards. His brain had a melt down and all he could do was pound his head into the ground in an attempt to distract himself from the insanity of the entire ordeal. That was until the Witch of Greed called him to the tea party, which thankfully restored his rationality instantly. If not for that he would have been left an invalid.

“Otto f**ked him.” Not really, during their second first meeting Otto ran away in terror from Subaru, a stranger he had just met, who said the white whale was specifically trying to kill him, while the whale said god knows what to him. Wouldn’t you have done the same? Subaru. Doesn’t. Care. What Subaru does do is try to do everything himself. He doesn’t really have friends so he’s forgotten he can rely on others (despite telling Rem to rely on others). From Otto perspective, Subaru saved him from death, bought his overstock that threatened to ruin him, offered to introduce him to the margrave, while he bantered with him and teased him like they were old friends. He was a good friend to Otto, but he never noticed until Otto said it.

Yeah from what I’ve heard the white wail spoke to Otto and it drove him insane , which is why he killed Subaru , because if you notice in moments of terror Otto tends to stay calm and focused From what I remember Otto can talk to witchbeasts , but they normally only say stuff like “Die!” Or “I’ll kill you”

@@mister_chewy especially since not only is the whale describing how it’s gonna eat them, the whale’s special ability is attacking your mind directly through its voice. Otto is naturally sensitive to noise attacks, so it def especially messed him up

That final scene, Subaru’s vocal performance and the MUSIC... just the MUSIC man, as it plays into the credits and you let it soak in... I tear up like a bitch EVERY DAMN TIME. There’s a reason this clip is watched so many times on Crunchyroll’s KZread channel

@@nashetania She calls him father when she wakes up from the trial. She says something like “Father... father... Puck”. I don’t remember exactly what she says tho but similar to that. Contracts have familial-like ties. One of them mentions it this vid actually. Echidna is like a mother to Beatrice. Puck is like a father to Emilia. Spirits don’t have blood relatives, so this is like making a family for them.

This episode made me cry again man. Seeing Subaru finally open up about his abilities is such an emotionally powerful scene. They done a great job with it.

Did you notice how Roswall changed his way of speaking when he was talking with Subaru and how he was controlling the discussion. Instead of pronouncing the words like he usually does he was completely serious. And about this friend thing, think about Subaru's backstory he didn't have any friends in the other world.

In a place where bugs, humans, and dragons all vanished without a trace, there was suddenly a rabbit. Although it could be just one of the critters that lived in the forest, considering how Subaru hadn’t encountered a single living creature up to this point, seeing it here was exceedingly strange. Subaru: “Why is there a rabbit here... It... is a rabbit... right?” With endless questions, Subaru looked over his surroundings, confused, trying to see if there were other animals besides this rabbit that had wandered back into the Sanctuary. And, with no particular intention, he reached out his hand towards the rabbit, hoping to confirm what it was, or perhaps just wanting to pet its fur―― Subaru: “――――” The next moment, Subaru’s entire left hand was detached from his wrist upwards. If only he could lay down his head and faint, but the intensity of the agony had no intention of releasing his consciousness. Bubbling blood spilled from the corner of his lips, and he writhed like a fish on land. The fact that his ears could still hear, must be both a miracle and a joke by a cruel God. It sounds like you guys haven't watched the "frozen bond" ova - you guys should seriously consider watching it before you get too much further. You'll get less out of it if you do it the other way around.

Yo I got teary eyed when Subaru told the witch about his curse

Subaru: "This has got to be the worst death I've had" Echidna: "The worst death you've had *so far*!"

The reason subaru was so desperate to get out of the library was because he didn't want rem's body to get butchered or defiled like a rag doll by Elsa. And here's the horrifying part, he was planning to kill rem by his own hands by a knife and kill himself later. Just so Elsa wouldn't do anything to her body

I love reading this part of the light novel, lmao! my dude cnt get a break. that laugh of Otto's "we're friends" statement is deep guys, he just got killed and betrayed all around(locked up days in that dungeon cell) then out of nowhere he was saved by the most unexpected person and calls him a friend, a laugh from escaping borderline insanity.

Subaru was confused at otto saying that he was his friend because if you remember from subaru's backstory, subaru has never had a real friend or relationship with anyone before

the voice actor for Subaru Natsuki; Yuusuke Kobayashi, frigin nailed it. but every voice actor/actress absolutely frigin nailed it. They went above in beyond in this show.

Dude, Subaru's VA deserves all the respect in the world. He delivers 110% every single episode and you can FEEL it in the lines he's been given. Even after rewatching the series, it still hits like a truck whenever Subaru breaks because the VA puts his soul into the acting

You can't commit suicide by holding your breath. Before you die you will pass out and you will start to breath again. If your body doesn't force you to breath before that happen it is.

I completely agree that this was Kobayashi's (Subaru's VA) best performance yet. I was hoping you guys would notice just how AMAZINGLY well he performed during the Return by Death scene. Glad you did in the editor's notes. It is so hard to be able to pull off realistically crying and on top of that, adding relief to it. Deceivingly hard. Just astounding how good he is, honestly. I dare say one of the best Male VA's in the anime industry.

Well, knowing what we do about biology. Theories suspect peoples brains still work for 10 seconds after blood flow is cut off. I do asume shock would have saved him though but maybe that part of his brain has been fried from all the RBDs.
