@@blade2453 Echidna (The Witch of Greed) put a curse on Beatrice, confining her to Roswaal's mansion, until the right person showed up to break the curse. Problem is, there was never a "right person", to begin with. Echidna made it so any person Beatrice chose as "the one", would end up breaking the curse. Therefore she would sit in the Roswaal library, waiting for eternity. Another way to break the curse, is to be killed, which is why Beatrice is so happy, when Subaru stabs her.

Indeed I think a normal person would have just fled the mansion never to return again, but the wrath path is also plausible Actually wanting to save them even still...It requires a saint or someone who doesn't value his own life.He is a bit of both(flaws notwithstanding) That said there was one thing that tipped him towards forgiving them in cannon: in that loop, or the second one I don't remember well, Rem and Ram did held his hands as he was having nightmares about dying in his sleep(since that s how he died the first time).It did calm his nightmare.The fact that they did so even for a stranger that was kinda sus is what made him see they could be good in better circumstances But yeah...they should stop going to murder as the first solution

Honestly , almost everyone had wronged Subaru in one way or another, and he still tried to understand and save them. Ram and Rem brutally murdered him multiple times. Puck murdered him before destroying the world. Roswaal comissioned everyone to be killed. Garfiel killed the civilians in the sanctuary and Otto in front of his eyes. Even Otto abandoned him that one time (he more than made up for it tho) Main route Subaru is a fucking saint

@dfsad Would you say that post arc 4 Subaru is still immature. We are talking about the mental state of a 17 year old boy here. It doesnt matter what intentions the maids, the bitc*, the clown or the brat had, all of that was more than enough to break someone's mind completely. I would not say Subaru is a saint, but he's a human, weak physically and emotionally, but one of a very strong will which was enforced by his allies(Rem S1, Otto and Witches S2). And his 'selifish and greedy desires to save everyone'. No, I dont think he fell for Emila so hard on one sight, it must have a reason that will be known in the later arcs.

To be honest, Otto's reasons were the only defendable ones, he didnt threw out Subaru because he was scared that he would die, he actually went insane due to his divine protection(the whale was screeching at him to release Subaru). Insanity is something that removes all faults(if Rem killed Subaru during her crazed demonic state, it would be also due to insanity, the same goes for the failed loop where Garfiel killed everyone, the same goes for Petelguese, they were simply insane) Aside from that all reasons for killing someone are invalid and demented. I do not mean to be disrespectful but if you have even a bit of understanding towards that cat or sincerely believe that he is not at fault then fuc* you and that cat lol.

The whole deal with him and his vision is that anybody he can't believe/understand is greyscaled out of fear, a self-imposed mental block. Beatrice is obvious, she gave him comfort and security in the mansion but Ram and Emilia were different. Because of the trauma of letting Rem die and getting attacked for it, Subaru feels incredibly guilty and won't believe anybody could "like somebody like him". Despite being kidnapped, Emilia didn't hate Subaru but was always wary. This distrust gave Subaru peace of mind and reassured his belief of himself being a terrible human being (not wrong if his kill count has anything to say about it). So when Emilia appeared in front of him and started showing affection, it contradicted that and scared him in turn making Emilia lose colour in his eyes. Subaru then left to the last person he could truly believe, a chained yet ever vengeful Ram filled with Wrath.

According to the author here's what happened to the characters after the end: Cecilus: lost the fight with reinhard, had both of his swords broken and fled. Frederica & Halibel: Both survived and fled. Frederica was reunited with her family. Puck: Killed by reinhard. Reinhard: As mentioned earlier, kills puck and survives with heavy wounds(all of which incompacitates him for no longer than a short period of time after he leaves the pandemonium) Subaru: Lets Ram finally strangle him to death. Dies a permanent death and joins satella in the dark realm Emilia: She either 1) Survives and tries to kill Ram as revenge, or 2) Commits suicide, following after Subaru. Edit: even if she does survive(Emilia), she is completely useless as she dropped out as a candidate and has become a heavily dependent person. She is no longer able to make her own decisions and doesn't have a goal, being hopeless and impactless, as well as the fact that she no longer has puck.

@@nucleargamez5693 He essentially kept her alive in secret. In the beginning, the reason why she collapsed without being able to kill subaru was because she was mana deficient. Subaru eventually realizes this and starts collecting massive amounts of magic stones in order to sustain ram. When the seige began, it began with a merchant offering magic stones to subaru, and this was the disguise that reinhard infiltrated the pandemonoum with, hiding within the pile of magic stones. And a detail not mentioned in the video was that when Frederica enters his room to bring him his meal(this was when he was flipping the coin to decide if he wants to kill her family or not), she thinks to herself about why he always ordered food enough for 2 people. The reason was because he was keeping ram alive in a secret room that can be accessed by only him.

I think these are great examples of why Subaru is such a great character because basically, if he wants something, he gets it. Even if Return by Death is a tool in this, no doubt Subaru still plays a heavy influence in his own actions. He could become the greatest villain of the story, in multiple different ways, and so I think he can also be the greatest hero. It’s insane really.

Actually, it's still the same in the real timeline. It's not like he doesn't trust his friends, but he has gathered so much trauma and PTSD, tht he just can't sleep without having nightmares. He is still having nightmares about being mutilated by rem and is always sitting in the corner of his dark room to cut himself and perform self harm. Beatrice is the only one who knows about this, because she heals his body everytime he cuts it. It's truly a tragedy

@@daraam02 nope he's not that godly even with his divine blessing than u think he would've died by regulus if subaru didn't help him, and + Every divine protection has a cooldown/penalty to fullfil the requirdment like Divine Protection of Wind Evasion that patrasche use has a cooldown, Divine protection of Phoenix that reinhard has can only be used *Once* he already used it on regulus so he can't use it anymore, and also he can only negate 80% of all magic attack not 100% so it's possible for him to die, so yeah escanor would have a very high chance of winning if he were to 1v1 with reinhard

He’s like a deus ex machina on steroids. And you know, I understand that the author was trying to create a Foil to Subaru’s character ( both are hero’s with technically overpowered characteristic but one needs the help of others while the other needs no help from others) but Reinhard is honesty too ridiculous. Like, for how well-balanced even the most powerful characters are in Re:zero, Reinhard is a completely ridiculous anomaly. I am going to be critical here and say personally say that the author did a bad job in making him SOO overpowered because it really removes any absolute tension once Reinhard is able to step into the situation and one-shot any person he wants.

This is the Wrath route, so no, he doesn't have the authority of Pride to use RbD. It's explicitly stated that he, to a VERY limited degree (as always, no matter whether we're talking about the main story or these AU stories), has control over this story's eponymous authority. Since he's deeply incompatible with it (again, as always whenever he gets an authority), he can only use a tiny fraction of its power - in this case to see some peoples' emotions and better understand them, a reference to Sirius' version of Wrath in Pri(e)stella. Furthermore, him being content or not has nothing to do with RbD's activation parameters. See: the countless times his RbD checkpoint changed while he was knocked unconscious, unable to feel content or discontent, or had simply chosen to go to sleep for the day. Don't pull things out of your ass and act like they're facts when they're extremely easy to disprove with examples showing otherwise.

Here I will add a few details. The central theme in this route is drowning. The sentence "a drowning man will even clutch at straws" triggers this theme at different points. Subaru is drowning in distrust because he witness how easily people can change their minds. His world lost color, and except three people, the three straws: Ram, Emilia, and Beatrice. He believes they won't change their mind. Ram wanna kill him. Emilia won't forgive him. Beatrice will protect him based on their contract. Subaru knows that Beatrice is drowning as well, in loneliness, shares her pains, and wants to end it. So he becomes Beatrice's "that person" and gives her a long-overdue, happy ending. Emilia and Subaru meet once a week. Subaru never says a thing in the room, because he thinks that may make Emilia angry. On the other hand, Emilia already forgives him and somewhat look forward to their weekly meeting. At the last scene, Emilia chooses to side with Subaru. That reveals his scar. When Emilia says she will die with him, Subaru thinks Emilia will be like Rem, betraying him once he believed her. Ram's room is behind Subarus'. Everyday he will feed her and take care of her in person. Ram decides to keep acting like she wants to kill Subaru, despite by staying with Subaru for years she realized that Subaru was innocent. When she asked, "at last, you wanna die, Subaru?", she is ready to grant him what he gave Beatrice, the last straw. In fact, given Subaru's stone didn't kill Ram at the start, probably Ram already died and he killed himself there to try to save her. The reasons Subaru builds Pleiades are to find ways to keep Ram alive and to hide Ram and Emilia. In this route, he can't care less about things/people that are colorless, leading to the violent nature of Pleiades.

It's just funny that all of the stories problems would be solved by just dropping Reinhard into the situation. Why they don't have this guy on speed dial to deal with the witches cult is beyond me. He could conquer the entire planet if he wanted to and kill all of the witches cult members solo. The only person he's tied with is Satella. The nobility in Re: are dumb. It makes sense that Emilia could stab Reinhard unknowingly, he has the divine blessing to dodge virtually any attack but I doubt that merely blessings could give him the foresight to predict the future without any other information. I believe his divine blessing allowed him to dodge attacks by automatically moving his body in accordance to the thoughts of anyone who wanted to harm him, the divine blessing would sense their desire to attack, where the attack would end up, and dodge accordingly.

Actually, in season 1 when Elsa loses the fight to Reinhardt, she throws her weapon at him and it just weaves around him and goes in another direction. So his blessing doesn't make him dodge physically but rather makes the attacks dodge him.

Reinhardt has the blessing pheonix which allows him to resurrect when he died, just once tho. He also has another bless which lets him choose a blessing so when he dies he can just get the blessing of pheonix again. So yeah, he is immortal Unless you kill him before he gets the blessing of the pheonix again... which is basically impossible

@9dragonkings Nope read the translations on the author's special interview for Reinhard's birthday. He stated that once Reinhard uses the blessing of the phoenix, he can ask for another one as much as he wants. Also the author stated in that interview as well that the blessings he wishes for doesn't have to already exist in the re:zero world. Od Lagna can make him any blessing he wants and it doesn't have to be a pre-existing one. I'll try to find the translation for you hold on.

I think given what i just read subaru will slowly grow himself into the worlds most competent Commander. He did all of this without dying. But, imagine if today's subaru had this level of power and influence but without taking the shortcuts.

I think since he trusted Ram's hatred he was satisfied that she ended him so he's out for good! That's just my speculation :P

You know, listening to this story and remembering the Pride if made me realize how much of a plot point alternate Subarus could be in Re: Zero. If for some reason "Return by Death" allowed Subaru to see some of the paths he didn't take (even for just a few seconds) or he met with the Council of Sin Subarus in the "death void", he would put into perspective a lot of his choices, learn a lot about himself AND about the characters around him.

Well in arc 4 he didnt see his alternate routes but he saw what happens after his death. Like whenever he died and returned by death he saw how that story continued.

My top best if sories : 1. Pride if 2. Wrath if 3. Gluttony if 4. Greed if 5. Sloth if (it's a fkn romance what did you expect!) 6. Lust if( bad writing overall) And envy one is the cannon story right? So i will place that as the best one over this if

I still have not gotten around to reading arc 6 but what the author does here, especially with the IF-Stories is just insanity. Favorite Author, Favorite Fiction. Re: Zero is just nothing but HYPE. He dies a final death in my opinion, to answer your question. Lol his wrath route was way more successful than his pride route but also has it worse than his pride counterpart as he could've killed Reinhart by having emilia, the shadow ninja, cecilus, and puck fight Reinhart at the same time and then there would be no one to stand in his way. But damn not being able to see color and having debilitating trust issues would suck so much. In the pride route he couldn't find a way to kill or even injure Reinhart and just decided to ruin his reputation, but at least he found a way to complete his goal of securing the throne for Emilia by having her kill him.

In this one he ended up dying all for nothing with even pushing away, Emilia. Though for me this route was just so much cooler and better than the pride route.

@@laughingcrows4661 Reinhart seemed really weak after fighting cecilus and Emilia was still alive after confronting Reinhart with Puck. So I just assumed they were able to handle a injured and tired Reinhart. But reading more into it Cecilus probably would have not fought with backup since he wanted to take out reinhart by himself.

BTW I’m pretty sure Emilia just left Puck to deal with Reinhard. Which I’m like 99% sure that Reinhard still beat Puck considering in the Sloth if story the world didn’t end when Puck should have ended it. My guess being that Reinhard killed Puck to stop him. So Puck was basically only able to stall him. With all that in mind I doubt them coming all together would be enough to beat him. He’s just too OP to defeat him without removing his blessings, spirits, etc.

I have watched this video 3 times and boy oh boy the way you executed this video and all other what’s ifs are 10/10. Love the music you use btw.

Eh just want to say because many people confuse it. The novel said that roswal fell in despair after the death of rem and ram but it said that those 2 were essential for his plan in the future so getting depressed could probably relate to this non fixable setback in his plan and not any feelings about rem and ram

This might be the best IF story there is. It shows Subaru's potential to become dangerous if he were to abuse his Return by Death and that it would be unwise to make him an enemy. I doubt his death would be final since the witch loves him and would only take away RbD if he was satisfied with the outcome of his life. However, I doubt he was satisfied since the world had lost color and the woman he loved with it. The witch might either have sent him back to the point in time his world still had color or given him a merciless save point before the attack of Reinhardt's army, making him realize that this colorless world was all he had left now.

Pride IF shows how powerful Subaru can really be as a villain, if he were to abuse RbD. Technically Gluttony IF is also villain Subaru, in which he literally drowned everyone in the Water City of Priestle, killing otto, garf and countless of citizens, but meh I think in Pride IF Subaru is much more dangerous

I think subaru died forever in that timeline, his return by death is a gift given by The Witch, maybe seeing the end where all his action lead of maybe she just though that was a suitable ending to Subaru and take off his return right before he died ending his life I don't really know the The Witch, so maybr i wrong

The witch has some sort of connection with Emilia since most of Subaru’s deaths and restarts revolve around her in some way so after he stopped believing Emilia I feel that he lost the witches favor and he actually died idk though these what if stories do give us insight into the whole return by death situation and maybe hint at what the witch actually wants idk so far I only have watched Echidnut’s videos on them but soon I will be reading them myself

Return by death is indeed controlled by the witch, but Emila doesn't exactly have much to do with it. Echidonut has made a video on this but in a certain IF story Subaru only meets Emilia twice or so, at the beginning and at the end. He's used returned by death many hundreds and thousands of times without meeting Emilia during that time. He also gets perma death there at the end if I recall things correctly. I'm not going to go in depth on this theory but it seems that return by death is so Subaru can get to the witch of envy alive so as long as there is a way of survival, he will be returning. That's if he has the will to continue though. It seems that if Subaru is pretty much completely satisfied with his death and does not even try to live anymore, the witch will give up on Subaru or something and return by death is no longer usable. But remember that's just a theory, or a summery of one at least.

Hmm 🤔 that is a good point maybe I was to hasty and just assumed based of the anime and what I have read so far in the light novels unfortunately I have not read the original web novel anyways hopefully one day we will get a concrete answer on what is going on

I think it was just a way to show that he can survive most things. It shouldn't be taken as him actually beating the sun in a fight... But considering Od Laguna, I wouldn't be suprised if in the Re zero world the sun is a god like entity, might even be Od laguna, but I picture it more as the core of the world not the sun. So far Od Laguna doesn't seem conscious, but also it strongly hinted that Reinhardt gets his power from it meaning it has to have some sort of conscious decision making to chose Reinhardt.

I wouldn't call it PATIENCE. Because it's more than that. I'd call it Sacrifice, or altruism via sacrifice.

The patience is derived from the fact that Subaru has to fail, suffer and die multiple times no matter how much effort he poured in before he can finally see the right path, only to fail again and again until he actually did find a right path. His sacrifice serves as the means to just that because after all, he would not sacrifice himself if he were impatient.

You know what's fucking insane is that the smallest choice/deviation can send Subaru down the path of becoming a god damn super villain. In all the routes, just a different choice leads him to turning into the most maniacal evil person in the series. It's really amazing how in nearly all the what if paths, he just goes full slaughter house mode. He clearly has high scheming potential, he just isn't using it enough in the main series.

There was the gluttony route, which was way too much of a close call for subaru. Arc 6 SPOILER!!!!! He thought "What if i just kill my allies to achieve my goal?". And he was so close to doing it that i was scared

I think that he will restart and his restart point will be the edge of the cliff where he made a critical choice, that led him to this path, if it wasn't that choice he would have been exposed to other choices that would led him to other sins, so the power of Satella would rewind him to that point giving him opportunities to take other paths leading him to commit other sins, and this closes my own theory.

Well, he would just die permanently. Because he is content with his life and wants to finally, genuinely, end it. Same with pride, where he was satisfied with burning down luganica and confessing his love to Emilia. In wrath, he was tired. He was just so tired of living, he was looking for reasons to die too . But there was none. At the end, the only reason for his dying life was a caged ram which would free him from his sufferings and life and give him the privilege of a permanent death

So if Subaru did jump off a cliff then he would hav- **Turururu Turururu** ah hold on I'm getting a call. Mushi mushi Bossu?
