Ahh now the problem with that is I have dermatillomania so as soon as I see one single imperfection on my skin I will pick/cut it deep, no matter how bad it hurts. I try to keep plasters on my fingers to stop scars forming but it's nearly impossible for me to resist the urge :(

Same! Mine stems from my OCD. If it is there, I will pick at it/bite it. If I have cuticle cutters, I’ll cut it but I will go way too far with it until I’m in pain and bleeding.

i have dermatophagia. i also have recently used those cuticle slicing tools to get rid of the imperfections but i do it so frequently that its ruined the skin surrounding my nails. all i can recommend is getting thick polish on your nails

Finally someone talking about this. I have very extreme anxiety, and one of the ways I cope with it is in a bad way lol, which is picking at my fingernail’s and biting my nails. I get infections all the time and I don’t know how to stop it.

So how do I get rid of the hangnail that's left? It snags on EVERYTHING! I try the cuticle cutters, but it slices my skin. Any bit of a hangnail- no matter the size- is so distracting, and even painful.

If I don't pull it out and only clip it it gets inflamed and infected until I pull it out. It is so much harder to get it once it's inflamed and buried in there. I know it's going to hurt and be inflamed for a day or two (sometimes) if I pull it, but that's better than a week or two if I don't.

Yeah my mom learned the hard way not to pull hang nails. Ended up with a BAD infection and ended up going to urgent care and they had to cut her finger to drain the infection.
