Oh and I think, hands down, the “70’s” heat up curlers in the box with the water did the best! They were so beautiful and seemed like the curles would last all day. And Mama Maples was living! Nostalgia was real.
Mia's favorite hobby isn't sewing, thrifting, baking, or crocheting. It's video editing and she refuses to admit it. For real though, I love green screen. Perfect video for my birthday today!

As a cosmetology student, I do advise testing the hot tools before use. You can do so by taking a paper towel or tissue and leave it in the hot tool as long as you would with your hair. If the tester you used burned or changed color, definitely do not use it! This is just a tip ^^
@meeshgreen
13 күн бұрын
This is so useful, thank you!
@mandyheart8754

You mean if the paper towel turns brown/burns? Wouldn’t that just indicate to lower the temp and/or reduce the amount of time it’s in contact with your hair? Even using my hot tools at appropriate temps, if I hold them in my hair for too much time, my hair will get damaged/burn.
@asahizarowitz9272
8 күн бұрын
@@mandyheart8754 The use of this test is not to see if it will damage your hair, because heat will always do that. The use of this test is to see if the heating component to the tool is broken or not. If it burns or browns the paper towel, it will actually burn off your hair. Hope this helped!
the 30's was so funny for no reason, you are so natural, love from INDIA!!!
Thank you for reassuring us that it was human hair in the wig. I was so afraid that it was synthetic and would melt.😢😮 As soon as you said “don’t worry “ I sighed with relief!
I think the most common curling method pre-electricity was rag curls :) Heatless and dried overnight, combined with hair pomades and powders! I would LOVE to see Mia try doing some 18th century hairstyles a la madame Pompidou and Marie Antoinette

I was going to say the same thing. The book cheaper by the dozen the girls did rag curls.
Girl.... you could go earlier 1800's.... try rags.... you have not seen chaos curls until you have done this. Using towel material is best, and you sleep with them in. They are torn about 6 inches long, and one inch wide, and you roll your dampened (not wet) hair up in it and tie it in a knot. The curls last forever even on strait fine/stubborn hair. Give it a shot, the results are hilarious and very glamourous :D (disclaimer- these are instructions for shorter hair, for longer hair, you would need to do the wrap method, which there are videos for that)

The darker color and bangs with that wig looked so cute on you, Mia. The color really accentuates your beautiful, porcelain skin. Here’s to me praying that you someday go for something along the same lines! (Though you look beautiful no matter what hair style and color you’re working with.)
70’s Heat up curlers were the best!
Mia with bangs and brown hair is such a vibe!! 💇🏽♀️🥰
Every hair tool 70s and older looks like Final Destination moments waiting to happen 😭😭 love u Mia!
the 70's hot rollers were probably some of the best curling ive seen. they looked so good on you! deff keep those and use them.
I used hot rollers every day for over 15 years. They worked perfect every time. They were incredibly fast too. 20 minutes from rolling the hair to finished style. I had long hair. Half of the time I had the Farah Fawcet hair style. Loved my hot rollers!!!
Green screen chaos is exactly what we’re here for! As a former hairstylist I adore this video, too, and your willingness to try some pretty difficult techniques. If you ever want to try the finger waves or metal rollers again, both are meant to be done starting with wet hair drowning in product. Since electric hair dryers weren’t available for at-home use back then, and hood dryers were the only options at salons, wet sets that could air dry or go under the hood dryer were the standard. Taking much smaller sections of hair will also help a ton. I’d love to see more videos like this!

Yes, it definitely is possible that Mama Maples is a child of the 60's. She would have had to have been born between 65 and 69, making her somewhere between 55 and 59 and in the generation known as X. That's not old, this is what a woman who eats well, exercises, is a none smoker, doesn't over consume alcohol, and has a cheerful heart, looks like now-a-days. I'm 62 and this is what a lot of women I know look like after menopause. Mama Maples is a stunning woman, period. She doesn't "look great for her age", she just looks great. ✌️from 🇨🇦

Mia! The brown hair is so pretty on you it makes your eyes pop a bit 🤍 that color is what I was hoping for when Brad did your hair! Or something fun like a baby pink or lilac lol
The paperboy hair turned out looking more like kitty from that 70s show which is also really pretty 😱😱❤️

The green screen is the chaos we needed. This video was ( chefs kiss!)! Love it! And you look great with brown hair! Thank you for sacrificing your hair with some of these tools. It was quite entertaining. 🤍💪🏼💋
Hi, Mia! Really enjoyed the video, especially the green screen. The last curling iron you used is called a Marcel curler. I thought you did really well for a first-time use. Marcel curling irons have remained in use in some black households and salons even up to this day! I grew up with my aunty curling my hair with large barrel marcels on the stove. She would check the heat by pressing it on a paper towel to ensure it didn't burn my hair. Watching you work with one was a nostalgic moment for me, for sure! In salons, a small stove would sit at on the workspace of the stylist's booth and there would be an array of different sized Marcels to pull from and heat up as needed. Some beauticians still use these irons today! A beautician who was really proficient would even spin the Marcel curling irons in the air while holding one handle to cool them. It was very impressive and very neat to watch! Love your videos! Keep up the great work. 😄

Mia suits the brunette/red hair so much, I really need to see you go that colour. Also the fringe is such a vibe🥹🖤
The dark hair looks sooooo good. the cut and length too. Just SOOO GOOD Omg.
Oke, we need to bring back that 80's hair. It looked so good on you! And the wig is so nice one you!!
Love the 70's curls! My hair was too straight to use steam rollers and I had a lot of hair. In the 80's, I kept my hair straight and layered like Cindy Crawford's cut at that time.
The crimped hair was actually my favorite!! So authentic and not in an over the top way you normally see it portrayed….
The tiny old curling iron you put in the flame, they used them mostly just for fringe/bangs. Those are from at least the 1880s possibly earlier. Definitely a fun and interesting thing to try for sure!

Safiya Nygaard did a series a few years ago on style through the decades, and she went ALL out, from hair to the car and everything in between!
Watching her concern about adding water to the 70s curler set was hilarious. In the 90s, Conair sold a hair straightener for at home use that had a water reservoir that attached to it at the tip of one of the paddles. Literally like a steam iron for your hair. Would love to see her reaction to that, lol.
Can we see another one of these??? ❤ Loved how your hair looked with the first one, the cramper 😍😍
