As someone else said, I've been doing it all wrong also. I've been messing with and trying to remove the eponychium (I thought that was the cuticle)! No wonder I keep getting hangnails. I give myself a manicure about every 10 days and I use cuticle remover... I was just removing the wrong thing. I also use cuticle cream several times a day. Now that I know, maybe I can get my cuticles looking good. Thanks so much for this video.

you were right thinking the eponychium is the cuticle. the eponychium is the part of your nail AROUND the cuticle, if you need to understand what im saying, type in "nail career education cuticle" and she tells you that what you always thought was the cuticle IS the cuticle (shes been doing nails for over 30 years) the video that should pop up is "How To: Natural Nail Manicure"

I don't have a cuticle remover so I experimented and tried to use a toner which is meant for my face, on my cuticles and it worked really well!

I needed some nail clippers. I seen these weird sticks inside, and was just confused even after reading the package. I hate dirt underneath my nails, and being in maintenance it's nearly impossible to avoid. Now I will always have one of these with me, and inside my tool box at work. You wouldn't believe the lengths I've went just to find something to clean my nails 😂 Thank you for the informative video.

I have always had acrylic nails, I had to take them off myself (with remover) when we went into lockdown. It has taken me 3 months to repair the damage they have done over the years. They still have a bit of recovery but I have a bit of a routine going but time to learn what to do property. This was a great help and will be subscribing thanks 😃

I don't always use a Cuticle remover because they don't normally show on my nail bed, but I do push back the Eponychium a bit to expose the dead skin...

Thanks for this video I've been meeting my nails go I'm not really in to nail polish or bail salons I ju st also got my finger jammed I,to a box I just soaked it in water today and the day of just band aid and alcohol wipe it stung pretty bad thanks for your help you,g to be taking care of my nails every day yea they were white and yellow around each nail now look so much better

I do keep my hands and nails moisturised, but had messed up my fingers during college (MAJOR accident with craft knife) and gave up on even having pretty nails till now. It’s only been a fortnight since I first watched your video and my nails are really starting to look nice! I’m so happy I could cry! I did try a few creams, but ended up using what my mum suggested, Douvall’s Argan Oil balm? I have eczema and get irritated easily, so I thought I should mention it in case you have any sensitive customers. Either way, thank you so much! P. S. What about if you have a ton of excess cuticle? I have really long cuticles and I prefer to cut them to keep them tidy, but I don't cut all of it. I push them back, and then there's this long bit that stays stuck to the cuticle itself. Is it wrong to cut this dead bit off?

Keeping that proximal fold as a natural threshold between the nail and ...finger, always looked better to me than extremely pushed backkk (so called) cuticles, where nails will sometimes look forcefully jammed into the fingers.

Thank you. 30 years ago I would read Teen magazine and they always mentioned "pushing back your cuticles", without ever really explaining what that meant. So I obviously tried to push back the eponychium. Maybe it's just me, but I've never noticed this cuticle gunk on my nails. It must be a problem for some folks, although I'm guessing the vast majority of women (judging by comments here) were doing the same thing I did and just using their orange stick to push the eponychium back, which only makes it look bad and doesn't help at all. So thanks for nothing, Teen Magazine. But thank you for explaining what a cuticle really is and what we are supposed to use our orange stick for.

I recently bought a metal cuticle pusher (similar to the one in the video), but if I hold it at a certain angle and scrape it on any part of my nail, it scrapes off white flakes. Does this mean that I have cuticle ALLover my nail, or is the metal pusher too sharp and it’s actually scraping off nail? Help!

+Stephanije “Ailinn” Op de Velt sometimes people use cuticle nippers to cut the eponychium because they think it looks untidy. But this can open up the area to infection, much better to moisturise and push it back over time to tidy it up.

okay so at one point, I got my finger slammed in a door at school. My finger nail will not grow back and the eponichyium hurts. I just don't know what to do. If you could reply that would be great and thanks for your time. Side note this injury was a couple years back.

+luv2cheer28 _ ouch! It might heal more over time, but you also might never get back the growth in that nail, your matrix might be permanently damaged. If it still hurts there might be an infection or something - check with a doctor.

Now that I know what a cuticle actually is, I now realize that the skin from my fingers has grown over but I don't have any tools to help that. Anyone know what I can do?

I have broad and open nails so they pain at times when I scratch how to take care of that.

If I understand your problem right, the sides of your nails aren’t well attached to the finger? That could be because your skin is dry. Moisturising my hands has definitely helped the wall around the nail protect the nail better, now the nail is less flat and less wide at the tip. Only push the cuticle back at the top of the nail, never the sides.

The sides of my nails aren’t well attached to the finger because my skin is dry, and moisturising my hand has definitely helped the wall around the nail protect the nail better. Obviously don’t ever push the sides more, only push the cuticle back at the top of the nail, never the sides.

One thing no one ever seems to talk about is how to push back your cuticles with polish on --- or do you even bother?! Everyone says to do this every few days in order to keep the area nice, neat and healthy - which for me, because I have such problem cuticles I really HAVE to do because otherwise I get very bad hangnails and my nails just get weaker and break, chip and crack. So when I have taken all that time to put on polish and do up a nice at home manicure - how then do I push back or care for my cuticles and keep my manicure looking nice for at least a week?!

One time I got my nails done professionally and they cut the part that isn't ment to be cut and I started bleeding soooooo bad like pumping blood and the girl didn't stop didn't even get me a tissue she just kept going and made each of my fingers bleed the same amount. When they had stopped bleeding there was dry blood on and around my nails she didn't stop to take to off she just kept going and painted over the blood. I payed but gave them a 1 star review on Yelp.

The Nail Artist Ravenclaw you can search this on the internet. It is loose (hard) skin on the side of the nail bed which often hurts.

+The Nail Artist Ravenclaw usually hangnails are actually bits of nail that have pulled away from the rest of the nail because of dryness. Then they can rip into the skin and turn into a bit of a disaster. That's why cuticle oil is awesome because it prevents that 😊.

Why does my eponychium split/peel?..looks so ugly so the only way to get rid of it is to cut that skin a bit but a few days later it happens again.

i have recently come out as transgender. my pour neglected man hands are a nightmare. thank you for all of your amazing help!

I have long nail beds and idk whether oval/almond shaped nails or square/squoval nails will suit me most :( and I find it difficult to push back the cuticles on my right hand :(

I believe any shape would suit long nail beds, so it's really up to you, which shape you prefer at the moment

Any tips or info on how to get an ex-nail biters nails to attach to more of the nail bed? Hope I'm making sense, is it even possible?

I had the same problem so I hope I can help you:) I had a really short nail bed just like you like I assume from your comment. When I grew my nails really long by using a really strong nail strengthener my nail bed lengthened a bit. They also got pretty curved. Of course they aren't completely the same as they were before bail biting, but there is a significant change :) so let them grow, let them grow and I hope it will will help you:) sry for any mistakes, not a fluent English speaker

I went to the salon they gave me horrible nails & didnt take care of my cuticle for 40€

You can't even see my cuticles their skin literally growing over them I want to see them so that's why I'm doing all kinds of things to try to get my nails smooth and pretty but I do not paint them don't pretty without it I think they look so beautiful without it Seminole Shades like when they cut it in the Square that did not actually look pretty actually does not look for you.

I done my cuticles at home and the next day my cuticles were bleeding

honestly, this panic around "don't cut cuticle!" sounds silly to me. Ok, it's there to protect. but you push it back! and open the fold! you can't perform manicures without this step. but when you open the fold, don't you unseal the protection? then why not to cut the dead tissue? ridiculous.
