The Updated Best Drecko Ranch Design (2024) Reduce Travel - Set It and Forget It Oxygen Not Included
The Updated "Best Drecko Ranch" Design
Old Video: • The Best Drecko Ranch ...
The build at its current form as of 2024. I've been making changes and additions to the overall design since its orginal inception with the video above- that being said there were many changes that affected the design along the way. Critter drop off and critter trap changes- some minor Drecko changes.

Cool, didn't know the new critter trap could be automated like that! 👌
The dreckos spread 65C heat, and the mealwood stifles at 30C. Cooling is needed on the mealwood. A single wheezewort will do. He talks about this at @6:25. Additionally, a "plugin" under this should be a pip ranch with wild reed fiber, and two sweepers to feed the mealwood the dirt pips leave.

i have done the wheeze wort on a planter box where the water locks are- works but i tend to almost always get a radient pipe inside with an ST/AQ. good point about it being possible to swap to pips or cuddle peeps with. i believe its only 4 domesticated arbor trees to feed 8 pips- which also fits
neat! Thanks for the details
Im so hyped for this. I just copied your old design and now i can update it!
I'm new to ONI, and I'm overwhelmed by all the ranching options. I have so many questions about the different happiness and starvation modifiers. But, my main question: why does it seem like no one does wild ranching? A wild drecko doesn't starve right? So, couldn't you just shear them for free resources? As long as you give them enough space, would they lay an egg in their lifetime? I'm so confused...

so in the individual scale, that makes sense until you find out wild critters regrow their scales slower vs a tame critter. then theres scaling up- you can never scale up wild farms and while you would spend less resources per plastic, you would have to also wait exponentially longer to get as much plastic as a tame ranch since the number of critters will blow up. that might lead into another question which ill answer- you cannot "untame" critters once they reach 100% tame. wild critters in the process of becoming tame may not become tame if left alone long enough but that would be it.

@@2LegitCity Thank you for the quick and lucid response. I've been down the rabbit hole; yes, a 70% reduced shear rate is rough. So, like you say, it's worth some resources to ramp up quicker. I'm thinking once I get production up, I'd still set some aside to keep wild to try to live that infinite dream.
I recommend adding a Weezwart to cool. (For those who don't know, weezwarts require phospherous, and drekos poop phospherous).

planter box where either water lock is are great spots!
Nicely done! I'll be building one of those soon.
Long time watcher, first time commenter. What is your take on a dual 100% hydrogen ranch design where a pincha pepper drecko ranch is fed into the critter-flux-o-matic for any plastic needs? I don't have the means to test for myself at the moment, but I assume you could get an extra sheer from the glossy dreckos even if they are starved if they are also in a 100% hydrogen atmosphere.

thats a great idea- i havent thought about incorporating the story traits into any of the designs. youre basically trying to automate a new glossy every cycle- im curious to check now if the critter flux carries over scale growth% or resets it on morph to potentially get a double shear. would be great to crank out plastic as soon as possible

My current design is similar but using balm lilies with all the eggs going into the flux o matic room. I also put an incubator and critter drop off in the flux o matic room so that I can insure that my normal drecko population is maintained. Any extras from the incubator stay in the room and get fluxed.
Anything you think this Drecko Ranch needs?

Decoration! XD
Well this was timely. I just started a new run
ive recently prefer to build my drecko ranch right next to the critter flux-o-matic. my design uses an island of 12 upside down hydroponic tiles, planting pincha peppers in hydrogen atmosphere, so the breeder can only work with normal dreckos. i like equipping my ranches with both the condo and fountain for max happiness (14 critters per ranch when properly set up). all the overflows go to the flux-o-matic to turn them into glossies, and then theyre dropped into the shearing/starvation chamber for tons of plastic
Don't glossy dreckos need more mealwood plants to sustain 8 critter ranches?
@2LegitCity

glossys specifically eat 33% of mealwood growth per cycle, which is how much a meal wood plant grows in a cycle. perfect balance. regular dreckos eat less than glossys do
Will the soon to be available DLC change that now critters can eat the food directly from plants in a pot ?

i believe critters can interact with the planter box, but you had to build another tile next to the planter box. the issue is that technically the box is floating(up a tile compared to farmtile) and the critter has no way to interact with it.
I use a similar design, but it has a hot side and a cold side. Cold side is chilled with base cooling loop and hot side is balm lilly
I really like your design and have been using it for a while now. Is there a reason you put water on the plants? I feel like without the water you can push down the co2 layer more and get the drekkos to run around in hydrogen more often. Also do you generally have both type of drekkos in one ranch now or is it just because you are still setting up everything?
@2LegitCity

initially i mop it up, but after the first mealwood temperature stifle, i leave the water on top to help cool the middle tiles- most of the cold water falls into the corners and cools the farm tiles outside to inside.
I understand that you are trying to increase your glossy drecko count. However, I feel that the perfect ranch design should have chlorine and balm lily

He says that in the video. Why would you even write this comment
@Nauro50

Why? Outside of specific scenarios, reed is plentiful and not in much demand, plant from toilet water can pretty much supply your needs. Plastic at normal temperature is where the dreckos shine
this pretty sic. also what u think abt Frosty DLC?

its hard to say, the devs said there were things not "tested" during the beta so i want to see everything first before i judge
