The Untold Story of Hitler's Assassination Attempt | Extra Long Documentary

Ойын-сауық

Amidst the chaos following the failed assassination attempt on Hitler, the SS takes drastic action, arresting the family members of the plotters as "prisoners of kin." The hostages face an agonizing dilemma as they are transported across the Alps: flee or hope for a risky rescue. When the convoy reaches Niederdorf on April 28th, 1945, the hostages blend in with the townsfolk, causing the SS's grip to weaken. However, their situation remains precarious as the US army approaches the hotel on May 4th, 1945, leaving the fate of the family members uncertain.

Many times these rebels against Hitler only became rebels against Hitler when the Americans and Russians were blasting everything in sight and ending the war. Up until then these late blooming rebels were in bed, so to speak, with Hitler and his group. Under scrutiny I think most of these people got off very lightly and, often as is the case, around the world, the rich, powerful and connected are provided with quite nicely while scores of average Joes get slaughtered or starved or anything resembling Hell on Earth. What were the family members in Hitlers military doing for the years of the war until they decided to do a quick anti Hitler stance...how many people did they kill or have killed. One act against Hitler for their own personal advantage to save their own hides when the Americans and Russians were within days of ending things...heroic, hardly. I bet there are people with dead members of their families that would have liked to see all these people hanged...

This is excellent - what a great find! Such a gripping story and admirably well acted. Gives an insight into the end days of the Nazi regime within one of the many small pockets of its horror but one most of us are unfamiliar with: a disparate, motley crew of victims, adults, children, soldiers, priests, of different nationalities, all thrown together by circumstance and hoping to survive (both the cruelty of the SS & the oblivious Allied bombing from above) Deserves more than 37K views. The title however is a little misleading. Nevertheless, riveting stuff...

my parents fought against the nazis. my father was in the american army and my mother was smuggled out of Austria when the nazis invaded and sent to England where she joined the british army. She was wounded by shrapnel in London during the blitz. My tiny mom was driving an ambulance in london. She was a tiny lady but a real terror if you crossed her. Truely they were the great generation. I salute them now as a soldier in the us army where I flew as a gunner in the gunships in vietnam. the armpit of the world.

So did my Dad, serving as a bomb loader and armorer on B-26's in Africa, later Sardinia and up into France and finally after the war, stationed in Linz, Hitler's home town in Austria. I have all my Dad's letters he wrote home, and lots of photos, his dogtags, etc. Just yesterday at an antique mall here in FL I found a clean and pressed Army Air Force uniform like my Dad would have worn. It was made of fine wool, and I looked at the sewing and it was very well done. Our men had quality clothes over there at any rate. It just gave me a little heart tug to see that uniform. We owe so much to our fathers and mothers for their determination not to be beaten. I am reading The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich and how Hitler's army was falling apart once it turned on Russia. The cold has always been Russia's best weapon. The Wehrmacht didn't have proper heavy coats, socks, boots -- many cases of frostbite among them, for example. By that point they probably didn't have very plentiful rations either. The generals just could not take their men the final 50 miles to conquer Moscow. When we visited Leningrad a few years ago, we saw a sign, whether in a museum or the main drag, Nevsky Prospekt, saying, "Comrades, use the other side of the street because the buildings will protect you from German shelling." There were still a few holes in walls here and there. Fairly few images of Lenin and none of Stalin.
