ye same for me.. like, im 12 years old and i have been a fan of kpop for over 2 years. my kpop fan "journey" started with one of my best friends, about 1 year after we started listening to kpop, she started constantly telling herself that she was fat and ugly(btw. she had long black hair, super bright blue eyes, she was pale, had red lips and a perfect hourglass figure. she was one of the most beautiful people i knew!) , this lead to an extreme eating disorder... then one day when we were at their pool just hanging out, i noticed how alarmingly slim she was... it was scary. i told her what i noticed and asked her if she was doing okay, she told me that her mom too, constantly body shamed her to the point where she would tell her that she as a fat bi**h.. the girl i once knew as the happy, smiling friend of the group turned into an depressed emotional wreck.. this started effecting me too, and just like that i developed an eating disorder, and i started self harming as way to deal with all the emotional stress i felt.. thankfully my parents noticed something wasn't right and took me to a doctor..i am almost fully healed now, but still i sometimes think about skipping meals or not eating at all.. the fact that being considered "beautiful" comes at such a high cost/rist is not acceptable!

Her words brought tears to my eyes.. No child should feel that way! My 7 y/o daughter is Palestinian/Danish/Greek and has a gorgeous brown skin tone, sadly she idolises "white skin" and sees it as superior because she's caught her father outwardly idolizing white skin numerous times. Fair skin in the Middle East is also very much idolized although it wasn't mentioned in this video above. To any parents out there, remember that your word's (especially when openly self deprecating) can impact a child's thinking dramatically, love yourself too.

If you are feeling insecure of your own body, get off social media and take a walk into the real world. Visit your local coffee shop, take public transport, stroll around your neighbourhood, go to the park, etc. You will realize that 99% of people you encounter will not fit the ideal standard of beauty and you won't feel alone anymore.

I nearly cried seeing the child (A LITERAL CHILD) cry about how she thought that she was ugly. Like wtf is our society and the world that we live in to the point where a small child will literally think she is ugly when she isn't at all? And the past beauty standards look hellish. Like, the corsets look as though they could crush a stomach. These beauty standards are so unhealthy and dangerous to the point where people pass away from them. This is not ok

But thats because I was basically brainwashed into thinking my skin color is ugly disgusting and dirty. I'm 11 Years old and honestly i always feel bad about myself.. I do excersice secretly for flat tummy or curves and also worry about my face features so this has made me realize the impact social media has on us. The worst thing is the fact that almost all the girls at my classroom want an hourglass shape... Bullying doesn't help too, a girl at my classroom was being told bad Things about her body and her BEST FRIENDS just made It worse. Also we gotta have in mind that it's not just girls, boys suffer because of the ideal body.. This made remember When my aunt had anorexia and because of this Everyday she would eat almost nothing, walk like 10 kilometres and do 150 push ups and she actually was already thin so it was really bad for her health and she still felt fat.. ( It was around the 1900's). Let's also not forget about skinny ppl, they are always told "How is it posible you don't like your body? your thin" but being to skinny is also a big insecurity. This world is fucking doomed

Love, please remember that you're a child. You deserve to have a fun childhood, you don't need to feel sexy or hot. You don't need curves, sweetie. It makes me so so sad to see young kids, especially young girls, be pressured to fit in these awful beauty standards. They get pressured to wear revealing clothes and oversexualise themselves while being kids and they get told that it's "feminism" or "liberation" when the reality is that they're being manipulated. And on top of that, for some fucked up reason they get harassed / bullied when they act their age. Honey, please remember that social media is fake and society will always find a way to hate on women no matter how they look like. If you want to exercise, do, but for yourself. Don't starve yourself nor work out to death just because that's "what you're supposed to do". 🫂🫂🫂

I hate modern day beauty standards. I was told all my life my nose was too big, my lips were too big, my eyes were too small, my body was too thin or too fat. I get put down a lot for being an Italian woman, getting many remarks about how my skin should be flawless and tan, how I should have the right curves, how my hair should be blonder and less brown, that I'll never be enough. I was forced to look at these Eurocentric standards, and told to be better. Now I struggle to love myself or think as myself as pretty.

For years I hated the concept of being closer to being my race, I fought so hard to be closer to being Caucasian. I spoke English more, fought to keep my skin light and weight low..I spent more time on Instagram, and other social media platforms that glorified slim thick or skinny European features and that brought so much depression towards me cuz I tried so hard to look like them..be like them. I think an important part that's missing here is to really question the whole concept that it's important to be beautiful. Don't our bodies serve at least a dozen more important functions than to be pretty to us or anyone else? To keep us alive, to get us to places, to communicate with others, to make a difference in the world, to experience life? Why wouldn't that be enough? Do you cherish your friends or coworkers, family or strangers for their appearance? Or for their patience, their kindness, their humor, their skills,...? Just imagine what the world could look like if we stopped caring about looking beautiful and invested all that time, money and energy into making us and the world better...

This video honestly made me realise how happy I am with who I am. I’m 13 this year and I’m from China. My dad has always wanted me to have natural darker skin because he thinks it resembles that you’re healthy and that you’re exposed to the sun a lot. He always took me out to play and eventually I had a tan skin. I also lived in Fiji at the time so everything was really natural and I got to see the beautiful culture and differences in mannerism. When Covid started I had to go back to China because they had a more advanced medical experience. I stayed there for two years, home schooled and was always on my iPad. Around that time I was really insecure about my body because I saw so many other young girls having a skinny body. I wouldn’t say I was fat, but I was leaning towards that. I also didn’t go to school so i didn’t get to see kids my age and the different body types. I made a workout routine for myself when I was around 11. I gave up soon after that because I didn’t see any “change” after a month. My parents always told me that I am perfect the way I am and right now, I started going to school 5 months ago and it honestly made me feel better about myself. My mum recently told me to enjoy my childhood and to not get a boyfriend too early cause that might ruin my childhood. She told me to eat as much as I want and be confident in myself. I’d say my feeling of acceptance with my body was a pretty big change from a few years ago and I’m living my life and enjoying every moment of it 😊

My excuse was that I was defending my self, I told the teacher what happened. The teacher was rude to me the rest of the day. @Arkham appearance *does* matter, but some people obsess about being pretty (like me). unless its unhealthy, as long as it’s making them feel good, I don’t see anything wrong with beauty as a hobby of sorts. i was raised on the idea that beauty is big eyes blonde hair and tan skin, and since I don’t see that but I do see girls on social media and even my friends, I just constantly feel ugly and self conscious. someone’s going to say “you’re beautiful no matter what” but it doesn’t help. when you wear hoodies and traditionally masculine clothing you’re a freak and when you wear revealing clothes you’re a slut. when you are the way you are you’re annoying or ugly or mean and when you try to change you get called fake. i know it’s unhealthy, but some girls I know hate themselves and constantly compare themselves to each other and celebrities and I do it too. appearance is so complicated. it’s important, but when you obsess over it it’s unhealthy, and it’s hard to draw a line where it becomes unhealthy. im so sorry for how long that is, but I just needed to share my experience for some reason so I hope I didn’t bore you.

I started thinking that maybe everyone thinks that I’m ugly. I thought they didn’t want to have anything to do with me but they were also watching me waiting for me to do a mistake to laugh at me so I started distancing from ppl. But you did a great job here, very well explained. Thank you!

Thank you for making this. Being a 54 yr old widow, you tend to become invisible. There was a point where I thought about jumping on the botox wagon, but after a consultation I immediately jumped off! I am just going to continue taking care of my skin and not try to morph into something I don't recognize. I have reached that place where I'm quite alright with myself (I have moments of vanity, who doesn't), and if others don't like what they see, they don't have to look. More women should watch this video, than the make up tutorials. Being happy with ones self and learning to let the judgements roll off your back is the best lesson. You have a great day with your handsome self!❤
