I honestly don’t want to live in a world without HorrorBabble, thank you so much for all you do

If HorrorBabble ever shuts down, I have a friend who could help with the grief. Just head down these stairs and ask for Warren.

Sorry to tell you, but a version of you exists in a parallel universe in which there's no HorrorBabble. Warren is not dead there.
M.R. James is my favorite "quiet" horror writer. His work is all about mood and atmosphere, rather than graphic, gratuitous violence.
Every time I see an update from Ian I know there will be a macabre journey for that night!
Love M R James, thank you
Help me, O LORD my God; save me in accordance with your love. Let them know that it is your hand, that you, O LORD, have done it. They may curse, but you will bless; when they attack they will be put to shame, but your servant will rejoice. My accusers will be clothed with disgrace and wrapped in shame as in a cloak. Psalm 109 Thanks for som fabulous M.R. James. 😊

And that's about the mildest part of it. Verses 7-15 are *vicious*.

Maybe we could ask Ian to read it, because it really is truly horrible.

Another classic. Thx Ian!
Fantastic much appreciated Ian!🙂👍
The artifacts series has become one ofy favorite things to listen to during slow days at work. All the love and appreciation for these videos.
Yeah! M.R. James is always welcome in my house.
A wonderful story, and one I'd never heard!
I thought I knew all James’s stories but delighted to find this one, an lovely reading, thank you
After playing Elden Ring all I want to do is take this uncommon prayerbook to the pope turtle for some new miracles

Ha! Same. Pope Turtle best dog!
We did enjoy it. Thanks, Ian.
I am obsessed with the music that plays when the story ends. It's so chill. I genuinely want to listen to it on loop. I could definitely get at least half an hour out of it. I am really going to need you all to release it lol.

Never assume that the dead have truly departed. Especially in an ancient church in rural England.💫💀 Wonderful adaptation of the great Montague Rhodes James.☠️
Long live Lord Protector Cromwell!

Warts and all!
Thanks Ian!!
Good story, but required outside reading. I had to pause partway through for a refresher on 17th century British history and to look up psalm 109 in order to understand it. 😀
Splendid
Oooh! Oooh! Is this the prayer book with "Oh Lord Thread Lightly on My Unmentionables" and "The Hedgehog Can Never Be Bothered"? I love that one. It is a testament to your diligent searching for rarities that you are only just now getting to MR James' best. Must be coming up on 400 narrations soon. Thank you!
AWESOME
So excited for a lovely little bedtime story..
YES I'm so happy you're doing this one
Interesting!
First! Yay. Thank you so much guys love your work!
This is everything that scares me about the English. This soulless Tom Hardy crew…. This is where you tell me mr james was Irish, or something. Good one. 💎💎
Good story ❤
a wonderful narration with excellent character dialogues, thank you.
Im excited to hear this. I enjoyed part 1!
Thanks for this one, Ian! 📚
Thank you!
I wish we had a safe space to have discussions about your stories where we could talk about what the stories mean and have deep dives into the inspirations behind stories, things like that
Nice❤❤❤
I'm so used to listening to Bite-sized Audio's version of MR James its a bit jarring to seeing it on Horrorbabble xD
Great story and narration! Oh, this is a lovely one! These stories make me want to take a step back in time, to a simpler age (in some ways). These old stories set the scene and describe the environment in such a fascinating manner. This is a great story. Thanks!
I loved all the dialects on this one! 🙃 Always a pleasure, Ian- thanks so much for all the work you put in. Hope your wee one is doing well!
Nice. Very nice.
Take that common prayer books! 😊
Listening from the ukwales ❤
Interesting to note the villain was a foreigner Was that a common theme / aspect in such stories of that time , I wonder
❤🔥
april 25th is my birthday!!!
We learned about Cromwell at school, but I forgot basically everything but the name. :( Somebody needs to explain the backgrounds of this story to me...
Eyy
My brain must have wandered unnoticed and lost its way back for a bit, because this one has me rather confused. What happened to the man? Some odd bundle bit him after he stole the prayer books? Curse you, ADD...
Thanks
Psalm 109 (NIV) adds no small amount of depth to James’s yarn.
Big fan of the channel butthis story was pretty underwhelming imo

MR James grows on you. Check out some of his others on the channel. Sometimes less is more, IMO.
Meh.
