Look beyong Geneva's reputation of diplomacy and banking. It's a city full of charm, endless history and artwork down every street and alleyway. Many of the famous attractions like the Jet d'eau, the Brunswick monument and the Reformation wall are all free. The same goes to visiting Saint Pierre Cathedral, although for 5 dollars, you can catch the best views of Geneva. For first timers, it is a shock to discover that Switzerland is notorious for being a very expensive country. We did a lot of grocery shopping at the local Coop and made many meals at our airbnb. But you can still find cheap eats like banh mi at Mai Ly and high quality bread and pastries at the bakeries like la boulangerie des Grottes. Our big splurge was going on a chocolate tour with ‪@localflavourstours4590‬. The guide, Anatole was unbelievable informative, entertaining and enthusiastic about chocolate and the city's history. We sampled award willing treats at the best chocolate shops, sailed on a motor across Lake Geneva and even partook in the annual ritual of the smashing of the marmite. There is a reason why they (localflavourstours.com/) are rated 5/5 on TripAdvisor and Google. If you are looking for local, authentic Swiss dishes, head to Auberge de Savièse where you can taste the cheese fritter known as the Malakoff, as well as the Röstis, the Swiss version of hashbrowns.
