Just to add to the Harp Glissando tip: If you're in a major key, all of the white notes will work - if you're in a minor key, all of the black notes will work. No player can really stay in key on their instrument when doing a glissando ... unless you're just a freak of nature. Great tutorial JFilt! Will be implementing this ASAP!

I noticed that it works regardless as long as you end and finish on a note that is in key.
When you played it all together. Blew me away!

Great video! I especially loved how beginner friendly it is, although more experienced producers could learn from it as well. Something not mentioned though is the mixing required to make it sound like an actual 70s production. That includes levelling/panning techniques used in the 70s and more importantly, some kind of tape/tube saturation and some vinyl emulation on the master bus. Vinyl by iZotope is an amazing free vinyl emulator and tape saturation comes included in most DAWs. You can even be extra and add saturation on every individual track to emulate the analogue preamps of the time. Lastly, a reverb that will glue all the instruments together is key. Convolution reverb is the best way to put the individual tracks in a natural sounding room, that being a 70s studio. Plate and spring reverb was also used as an effect at the time. With very basic mixing moves you can get a 70s style music production and transform it into something that sounds like a 70s recording. Hope this was helpful!

Great video. I already know the kind of techniques you're using but videos like this are still dope to me because they inspire me to make music. This video is definitely great for those who want to learn how to make era styled samples as well as those who need an idea to compose an original fleshed out piece and don't know how to start. Good work, my dude.

The real challenge to me with "vintage Soul" composition is not authentic instrumentation or apropriate chords, but arrangement. Creating a vintage Soul 4 or 8 bars loop is not that difficult, but creating an entire arrangement with changes in the harmony is!

@@Verysickbeats yessir yessir good day to you and positive energy 💯💯. I just bought a 303 last year . And I only have the adapter and the in and outputs cables it came with . So I’m hearing that I can connect it to my iPhone and sample out of there. I initially thought i needed a mixer . But just need the headphone Jack , the plug adapter and more RCA cables. I just wanted to see someone actually plug everything in and whatever there using to sample into , show the machine as they do so because everyone just assumes people are equipment wizards lol. It would mean a lot even if u just did something as simple as point the various ways to connect something for sampling . If u can’t I totally understand, thank you for your time and love the channel been a fan since 2017 , PEACE!
