**THE ULTIMATE Guitar Feedback Lesson AND Demo**

Feedback! How it works and how YOU can CREATE IT and UNLEASH IT IN ANY KEY and AT ANY TIME☆MY GEAR: I'm using my '93 Ernie Ball Music Man EVH guitar and Peavey JSX amp...distorted and turned up LOUD. Thanks for watching and subscribe to see my coming videos --JIMI HENDRIX HISTORICAL NOTE BELOW:
- No, Joe Satriani did NOT invent feedback. It's simply wrong to think he did. Jimi Hendrix used feedback at least 17 years before Joe's career even began, and George Harrison used feedback just a few months before Hednrix's use of it as well. This video was made not to suggest Satch invented it but rather to explain a secondary technique used by Joe Satriani and many others after Hendrix to manipulate feedback into passing tones over an established key. This was not said to take anything away from Jimi Hendrix as he did popularize feedback long before Joe's use of it. We LOVE Jimi Hendrix and his wicked and brilliant use of feedback in the late 1960's, but this video was made to address the overall concept of feedback first as well as the secondary techniques that Joe and others have employed some 40 years later. But, no....Joe did NOT invent feedback.

thank u for going in depth to detail & giving extra information… even 13 yrs later!
Distortion + overdrive + chorus + flanger + delay + volume + a little bit of experimenting with settings and guitar positions = amazingly awesome psychedelic feedback.

try a fuzz pedal instead of distortion and overdrive that would be sick, but a big fuzz not an octave fuzz

Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm about to update this page and start releasing new vids again. It's been too long and again I appreciate your kindness! Rock on!
also, fuzz makes it sound really cool, especially if you crank the fuzz and add a Wah pedal, it'll get a squeaky or sometimes octave kind of sound and it's really amazing
Best explanation I ever heard on feedback....Thanks

Thanks a lot and thanks for watching! 🤘🎸
The first 30 seconds just helped me out with a couple weeks of confusion, you're the real MVP Fret Fries.
The passing feedback tones, that's so cool! I've been playing for 18 years and that's new to me.
Thanks for taking the time to post this vid. Very helpful.
YES! This is the look of the guy i want telling me about guitar! I know it's very superficial, and means absolutely nothing, but getting a lesson from dirtysteve stays with me longer than watching a tutorial of a 50 year guy playing the blues. I digress. Awesome vid, and great knowledge of the instrument. Very informative. Thanks!
That's awesome! I've been playing guitar for years and I've never been able to get proper feedback. Thanks, man!

U da man Steve. I think of u everytime I'm goin to town havin a bottle beer and feedin back on my acoustic bass!!
thank you SO MUCH i had NO idea this existed!! the getting close to the amp thing is so sick!
Your video was my basis to applying some control and logic to feedback. I use just a little compressor and more overdrive in order to have control over pitch and tone, volume and sustain. I used to place spots on the floor and use a guitar tuner to get the primary note of the feedback, label the note in the location; move to a new location - rinse and repeat. Interesting which harmonic note picks up in the hot spots of the room. It's actually quite musical. Thanks for this, man!
Thank you so much. I always thought it was hard to do but you made it very easy. From a player to another I wish you success in all your endeavors.

Finally a well explained video that gets straight to the point. Thank you!
That totally taught me everything, thank you! And I love your teaching style
Finally a good explaination about this noise. You Rock dude
I don't care much for Satriani's music, but he is a genius guitar player!
Awesome lesson, i always thought joe was tapping the different harmonics on flying in a blue dream and i could never reproduce it, not even close. Ive watched several videos of him playing it live and took note of the movements and combining that knowledge with your lesson i can now play it and sound close to the recording. Thanks a ton!🎉🎉

this is a great explanation, i must say. quick to the point and useful examples, thank you
Awesome! I watched this a while back, but I had a small amp which just wouldn't suffice, so I gave up for a while. Now I have a really sweet amp that I'm sure will bring me to success with using feedback. Awesome video brah
Hey bro! thanks a lot for your vid! Very useful ! This is the kind of lesson I was looking for! Keep rockin' ! Saludos from Mexico!
Informative, concise, great. That how lessons should be.

Hey mate, thanks for the tip, I knew how to make feedbacks but not how to handle it or do other variations of it. I watched Joe Satriani's song and it's really amazing what he does with the feedback. Cheers.
My guitar has been making these sounds when i set it down, and now i finally understand why it does that!
Awesome, thank you so much steve. Rock on brother! Great video!

Thank's for the video Steve !!!
@MadM4X939 Hey brother - you are totally right - Jimi introduced musical feedback to the world back in the 60's, and had he lived past 27, there is no telling what more he could have brought us with it. Satch, however simply took it to the next level of incorporating it into a song as a key-driven, melodic under tone with calculated control. This takes nothing away from Jimi - the original innovator of feedback. The old phrase comes to mind: "We stand on the shoulders of giants" -
Great video/ lesson!
Awesome lesson
I loved that effect that Neil Young did on the song "Everydays" by Buffalo Springfield.
Thats a badass room man. Rock on!
great lesson man I never know you looked like this!!
Good lesson man!
that was awesome, thanks so much.
I saw joe Satriani on that flying in a blue dream tour it was the first gig Id ever been to, and he must have spent four or five minutes (it seemed) getting so many notes out of his guitar without moving his left hand. From there it was a short jump to sonic youth and all my favourite bands. So cheers Joe! :)
You explain it very well man!!!
Also like to add something, it also helps a lot to have a treble booster or base the tone on treble so it sings more. And also having singlecoils is a good thing because they dont cancel humming. Sick video dude \m/
Nice vid man, explains it really well, cool examples too, thx

Kickass. One good reason to get a semi hollow body. I think this would be fun to play with and would create a good incentive to start rocking.

Thank you very much! Now I can play like Billy Corgan did early 90s!
I am impressed...you weren't that cranked for the feedback. The guitar with humbuckers DIRECTLY MOUNTED TO BODY helps a lot too.
dude tysm , I had a feeling the amp and guitar combo would work but I thought something was wrong with my amp and it was all luck haha thank you

Awesome tutorial dude! I appreciate how clear your instructions are and how you use good examples. Speaking of examples, can you provide some tips for the song “Yearning For Your Love” by The Gap Band? I’d like to see a break down of the lead guitarist’s methods and what effects you think he may have used. Thanks man and keep up the good work!
Youre great teacher, thanks

^This. I Feel Fine was recorded in 1963 (maybe 62, I'm not absolutely sure), long before Hendrix was recording his solo stuff.
thanks man cool lesson

You got it man!
Very nice lesson, but I have to point out that you don't always need to crank the volume. I'm able to get feedback using my Fender Frontman 212R, which is a solid state, with the volume knob only around 2,2 or so. I do however have the gain turned all the way up and there is a "More Gain" knob which boosts the gain a lot. I tried getting feedback from holding the C-note on the 3rd fret on the A string, and I was been able to get an E note, a D note an octave up and I also got a C octave.
Great video, thanks for the tips! About the Satriani-type feedback, I think Brad Whitford (Aerosmith) and Bernie Marsden (Whitesnake) used to experiment with the pitch changing feedback in the late 70's. Not really sure if they used the same method since I've only heard audio, but it sounds the same.
i love how he speaks
Thank you brother - too kind!
Don't learn how to manipulate feedback and it will be your worst enemy, learn to manipulate feedback and it will be your best friend.
Thank you bro awesome lesson like
@hspartin right on brother - you struck gold! ha - and thanks alot for the kind words man and glad it helped ya!

sweet man, im gonna suscribe you!! rock on
sei un grande! awesome!
@Thejaycefish you can also get a sustainiac pick up. it actively sustains your strings and gives you infinite feedback. its really cool
Besides distortion you could use compression for a less metal sound. Compression (and distortion) increases mains hum, but a noise gate will fix that.
very helpfull video thx man
@tomiclav Sure man - On the distorted Red or Ultra Channel - Treble -5.5, Mid - 6, Bass - 6, Channel Volume - 1, Gain - 5.5, Presence - 8, Resonance - 6, and Master Volume - 5 and Noise Gate - 10.
thank u very much for this lesson and for showing me Joe Satriani
