Main problem with publishing is in the education end of things,example if you do cover tunes,knowing that you can use Sound exchange for featured Artist royalty’s on the performance (no other place does it) Silly things like that,make huge income potential. But the Rub is,no one lays out the full procedure (hands on) The Areas it covers..... People get confused because when they hear the word "performance royalty" they think publishing/songwriters... and if you didn't write the song (because it's a cover) you assume you can't collect any performance royalties. But what people don't usually know is that there are "composition performance royalties" and "master performance royalties". It's true, on a composition/songwriter "performance royalty" you can't collect those. They are paid to a PRO on a cover song. The publisher is entitled to that. But on a cover song, YOU OWN THE MASTER, so you collect the "master performance royalty" from SoundExchange. If you are both the Featured Artists and Copyright Holder (master owner), then you collect both of those from Soundexchange. Info like that is what I find 99 percent of us lack on publishing knowledge.

if you write a song, before you do anything, email the lyrics to urself, add the email to a separate folder. now you have an online record of your lyrics!

You have great content, Damian. If I may suggest something... those new sound effects and zoom in-outs are somewhat exaggerated/not carefully edited. They distract more than anything and you have a good communication that needs less of those artifacts.

Would you like to do a video on interpolation please? I'm having issues with Dittomusic and researching copyright laws, licensing and how to correctly release a new song that's taken aspects of someone else's work. Spolier alert: DITTO told me I need a Masters License to re-sing a chorus from another song (where are the 'fact checkers' when you need them?!)

Let's say for example DistroKid, does it counts as a publishing service? And if it does will they take a fee for every song published or is it only the yearly fee u pay? And will they have any rights for our songs if we publish through them? Thanks.

Can you submit an audio recording when copyrighting a music composition or does it have to be transcribed into sheet music? Yes you are. You will generate publishing royalties on your streaming activity which is an extra revenue stream.

Question please, what if my track contains a few copyright samples and then you play those tracks live in concert, can I as the songwriter still register it with my PRO and get paid when I play them live? Or is that not allowed cuz of the copyright?

Curious why you didn't mention publishing administration, which collects your royalties both performance (through your PROs) and mechanical royalties, but doesn't own any of your intellectual property.

I wrote songs to tracks I leased online but the contract says I can’t copyright my new version. I want to submit to a publisher. Am I still protected if I only register it with BMI
