Perfect. Thank you so much for the video, my fox was chopped up bad, but thanks to your comprehensive explanation and gorgeous diagrams I'm now able to splice and fight my way back to a factory system!

I just swapped out the factory radio in my 88 crown vic with 6 speaker premium sound with a unit I found in the trunk of a 88 Mercury grand marquee at a pick a part yard, I knew my factory radio was having issues so for $ 20 It was worth a shot, man what a difference I have nice bass now.

I remember many yrs ago I owned 4 Fords 86 cougar, 87 cougar, 89 tempo gls, 88 t bird turbo coupe and there was thing they had in common, the speakers would just stop playing one by one and they didn't have premium sound except for the tempo and 87 cougar but by the time I bought the cars someone already removed the premium, the dash then a door speaker wouldn't work anymore but instead of me just figuring out how to fix them I bypassed them with new wires and I was also an oddball person for putting in delco cassette radio from a z24 cavalier in the t bird, had do just a little trimming but it fit pretty good and sounded nice, but I did eventually learn the wiring in them and was considering wiring up the premium sound eq with a jvc cd player but never followed thru with it, I've forgotten just about everything on them Fords from this time, this was close to 20yrs ago, Nice video!

Thanks for posting this, gained a subscriber. Will definitely be referencing this once I get around to putting the tape deck back in my 91.

Looks so much better. My '91 has the regular head unit with the bass/treble/balance/fade and the premium sound, but I have a NOS head unit with the equalizer waiting to be used. I bought the correct amp for it (used, but its very clean looking). I have not tested everything to see if it needs work, but I'll have that done by whoever adds Bluetooth for me. I will likely switch to Infinity Reference speakers. I'm glad to know an underseat woofer fits, since it gives me an option for an Infinity Basslink Mini re placement besides the hatch.

Good job, although crutch field stereo makes a wiring harness so that the installer doesn’t cut up the factory wiring.

As I understand the Foxbody Mustang Radio's, the one in the video is a normal radio which you seem to have added an amp. The premium radio is push button. The football amp (the one with the holes in it) is mounted behind the radio. In 1993, they went to a different amp and with a special harness running under the carpet, it was mounted under the passenger seat. It is the one without the holes in it. I could go and look up part numbers as I have some extra ones that I am hoarding.

I’ve probably watched this vid at least 80 times and can’t for the life of me find where the wire/plug is for my doors to the dash. Previous owner hacked this thing pretty good and not just the audio system. This vid DID explain a ton on getting my fox back to factory. I’ve scoured the internet looking for clues but nada. My fox is an electrical nightmare. Any insight?

I only have two questions... You said it was a bad idea to swap out the radio. Why? Is it because its difficult to go back to factory set up? Why are you going back to factory set up.

As the fox enters a more "classic" age, many people want to take everything back to OEM. Increases value and (arguably) appeal. That's just a preference thing, though. If you want huge sound, go for it. I wasn't trying to say aftermarket was a "bad idea" in general - just a bad idea for me because I paid to have aftermarket installed and only a few years later, here I am buying another radio and amp and spending days and days trying to figure out how to wire it back the way it was.

Same reasoning is why I bought a completely stock 02 Mustang and intend to keep it stock. In a world where seemingly everyone “mods” their cars, you can stand out from the crowd by remaining original.

Need to verify with him it's ok to share, but if you Google his name and Facebook, you can see his posts selling similar radios. You should be able to message directly from there.
