Hey Gary and team, Currently in my exam period for my final year at uni as a 22 year old. I have listened to a lot of your advice over the past 6 months and am slowly changing my behaviour to better reflect the life I want such as realising that I'm only competing against myself and time is my most valuable asset. Once my exams are over for university, I'm gonna start learning French and plan to take a job in France when the opportunity presents itself after I graduate. Additionally, I've really gotten into weightlifting and powerlifting as a hobby during this final year at university. Fallen for the process over the numbers in the gym and am hitting my goals quicker than targeted. I'll try to remember to message you again in 5 years when I've had my head down doing something I'm proud of. Thanks, Elliot

    1. Don’t beat yourself up if it’s not coming easy yet. 2. You have to decompose from that old environment. 3. You are judging yourself way to early. 4. Gather as many experiences as you can. 5. You are not lost in life, you are just early in the process. 6. You are lost by other people’s standards, not by your actual standards. 7. I’m only 20% of the way done. 8. This 5 year window is when you don’t go practical and safe. 9. You got to try stuff. 10. It’s not time to get the job mom wanted you too. 11. You need to stop giving a fuck about what anybody else has, and realize if you put your head down and just work for the next 10 years, no glamour, no new car, suitcase, jewelry, trips, events, no Coachella, no new fucking sneakers. Only work, you would have it, and every time you care about one of the things I just mentioned, it will slow down your process of having it. 12. You may have the expectations of your parents. Mentally hard, fake hard. 13. Parents, please let them win, on their terms, not yours. Your children are not a direct indication of who you are. 14. There is no loss in going for it. This are my timestamps from the video #FirstInLine .

I am a little older than Gary, and my time, energy and resources are very limited. I am going to stand next to Gary here and say yes, 22-30 year olds, get YOU going. Take your risks now. I need to take Sally to soccer practice, I have teacher meetings, and doctors and dentists to go to. Oh, and I also have a home to maintain, a partner to engage with, a car to fix, etc, etc. If you are 22-30. Turn off your phone, shut yourself in a room sometime this week for a full day. Get out some paper and a pen and carve out what you REALLY want in life. Don't be that old dude in the seniors home with that regret. I am only 40 but I have regret for somethings already. Still I am making time for a side hustle because I don't want to waste my next 40 years doing something I don't look forward to on Monday.

"This is when you need to attack what you love and you want to do" I'm an Chinese kid living in Germany and I've always been told to study something which has a safe perspective to live a good life and to enter the high society. I really cannot stand that arrogance anymore. I don't want to go to university for six years of my life and still have not produced any content or gathered experiences. I want to do things I love, if it's making videos, if it's building a business, it doesn't matter as long as I am passionate about it. Every time I see videos from Gary or other great people like Casey, I finally feel like there are people who understand my feelings and fully support my view. They are the ones who are changing the life of so many people on this world, now and in the future

I work in a retirement home so I agree with you 1000% that people need to take the time to be in that environment. I’ve worked there for over two years and I’m 22 years old and graduating now. The time I’ve spent in a retirement home has changed my perspective on life so much more than I can even describe. It’s taught me how young I really am when I feel like my life is moving too fast, it’s taught me how to form my own opinions of success outside of ANYONE else’s besides my own, and it’s put me in a position to talk with people who are thinking a lot more about their own mortality and learn so much from them. Overall it has been the most rewarding thing I have ever done.

This is impactful. I'm 26 and graduated last year at 25 after 3 school transfers from playing baseball. During this year I started my own company and had huge wins and losses, highs and lows, or twists and turns. I felt discouraged until I heard this. I know I'm not 22, and the anxiety I had from not being where I wanted to be at my age was weighing on me. This reassured me to stick with the course. Age is relative. I considered pursuing a corporate career that was the blueprint from my education and society. I was worried that there's now another year of grads going into the field I would pursue. Now, I can feel with honest reflection that I have chosen the right path. I have the drive to make my future. You do not know how tough it is to make it on your own until you try it, but giving up prematurely is the last thing I want to regret in my life and the greatest lesson in this video. Thank you.

110% do I remember this video! It's one of Gary's best. Four years ago when I graduated college with a filmmaking degree I had no idea what I was going to do. I went out and hustled for others until I realized the best goal was to take my filmmaking into my own hands. I went out and made my first feature film at 22 years old, self-funded from countless weddings and corporate video gigs, and went on to premiere at film festivals across the country and get it streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Shot music videos, shorts, and an indie TV series, plus hosting a new video podcast called Convincing Creatives since, and am still cooking new works when I can. Thank you Gary for your inspiration. I don't have time to get to all of your videos, but every once and I while gotta pop back by and engage with this amazing community you've built. To anyone out there who is guessing, stop. You have near everything you need already within you. Trust your process.

It's still the quote that I still remember till this day because it gave me perspective on how young I still am. I have been out of college for about 5 years now and I jumped right into the work force and that was one of my biggest regrets. I should have gambled it all back then when I didn't establish myself with bills and adult shit. But now, even with the need of my full time job, I am taking every second of my non work hours to work on my art work, KZread channel, projects and build my independent business. I am planning on aggressively getting rid of my debt, saving some money, and then quitting my full time job next year or the year after to start my own business. This was a great talk and I think every new grad should hear it. Fresh out of college is the best time to really take risks but also don't be afraid to take those risks at the end of that 5 year gap.

Just decided to take a gap year myself, I just finished a 2 year internship at NASA in computer science and still don't have a degree in school, I was about to transfer to a UC to graduate until I decided to take a break and work on myself and my side projects, so far I have been tackling all my bad habits and changing myself for the better. Gary if you read this I want to help your company with technology give me a shot, I moved to Arizona from San Jose just to live below my means and follow my dream but I will move near you in a heart beat! And for anyone reading I am 23 without a degree and I have no doubt I will accomplish my dreams and if you work hard I know you can too.

It’ll be hard AF but all that matters is the journey is going to be worth it in the long run 🙌🏼

This is EXACTLY what I needed to hear. I'm 22 just about to graduate from University here in the UK. Much to my parents horror I want to become an actor. Acting has absolutely nothing to do with my degree, but I fell in love with it during my time with the university drama society. My parents want me to follow the traditional grad job route but I can't see myself doing anything other than acting. It's my dream, and I know it's hard as shit to break into the industry, but damn it I'm gonna try. The last thing I want is to live a life of regret, constantly thinking "what if".

I have watched this particular video of yours, so many times, I couldn't imagine. I am two years off from graduating, And still constantly trying to find out what I am good at so that I can build something up from there. But i have too many hobbies and passions as a distraction, to actually begin with. Sometimes I feel like I am stuck, because I really want to start something. But your videos give me confidence to opt for entrepreneurship, up until I found your videos I always thought it has something to do with "getting it from your parents" and shit. But now I am trying to constantly hustle, more mentally than physically. So thank you.

If you want a timestamp and why my post will revolve around that it's @6:17. I never went to College but when I left school, I did what my parents thought was best, "get a trade". Very old school Australian way of thinking. I wanted to chase my dreams back then but didn't. I have so many regrets but since following Gary over the last year and a half, my entire World has changed. I genuinely want to thank you for weeding out the fakes and giving all of us free and useful content. The last 2.5 years has been tough (#AND). This is a video which I needed a lot. "Work hard now, sow the seeds and reap the benefits later on" is so true but exploring things early on is also important. We need to try new and different things while we are young. Once we are in late 30s , we just can't risk new things, especially if we have responsibilities of our own family. When we are old the only bad thing is to have a pile of cash but double the amount of regret in mind because we didn't chase our passion. You are the best.. please continue to inspire us :)

You got kicked out of your house, at least you still have shelter unlike many in the world. You have food, they don't have food, you have water, they don't have water, you have the world as your oyster, many have died as slaves and not as free men. Most importantly, you have the opportunity and the time, that my friend, is the only reason you need to go and do this. Now go out there and do right by yourself- you got this!

I started a KZread channel even though all my friends look at me differently, I also just recently graduated in May 2018. 😊 I ain’t scared of how life will be but... my anxiety always pops up when my mothers keeps bringing it up the whole college shit... but I just keep reminding myself... it’s okay 👌🏼

04:49 Not just the quote... but the passion you feel behind the quote. The same heartbreaking passion I've felt my whole life for others that were not as fortunate to have parents like mine. "Parents... Please let them win on their terms not yours. Your children are not a direct indication of who you are." - Gary Vaynerchuk #FirstInLine #Preach

You’d be a great graduation/commencement speaker tho most of the powers that be in the education and student loan system would probably cringe at that idea. Reason enough to do it right there. You’d be a force to inspire change for the better. 💪🏼💯

I love this quote from gary, "what's worse than failure is regret". I have tons of shit that I wanna do in my life but I second think some of then because of my insecurities and this pressure that i have with my parents, like I should live with under their standards and agenda. This quote motivated me to take the risk, take actions, stop whining, do what I want and discover later on if I want to continue it.

“Parents please let them win on their terms not yours (#FirstInLine).” You just gave me the line that will relieve most of my post grad stress! I graduated 2 weeks ago and I felt disrespected every time someone asked me what my plans were now that I’ve graduated because I was wise enough to know that it takes time and I’m glad that your video validated that I’m not wrong in thinking that way. Thank you for encouraging me to take risks in this time. Many times people coach graduates into living a fear ruled & “safe” life post-grad but I’m glad you told me to do the opposite. Thank you Gary for showing me how to live differently than others.

Is this video so censored so it's more sharable with the KZread algorithm so it can reach as many eyes and ears as possible for those afraid of swear words? Good strategy, but its slightly sad the need to have to remove words that some done like, so the powerful words are able to be heard more. I love hearing Gary's words. Hard hitting but full of optimism and love.

100% Yes! Im 40 and I look back and what I would have done different is take advantage of my 20s and 30s and go for it. Its harder now with a house and family, but it is still not an excuse, which is why I am pushing now, its just harder, but its worth it. If you are graduating this year, go for your dreams! Reach for the stars! You will fail at many things, but will learn so much. You can't win if you dont try, and now is the best time to do that. Spot on Gary! I have 3 kids and always tell them that they need to follow their heart and not what others say they should do. Kudos brother! Great video!
