nalbis the people of Demo don’t like bright colors that’s why everyone that live there wheres gray black and dark colors. And if you look at the song nico and the niners music video you will se a lite structural thing which is the big long towers in the middle of demo. Nicolas Bourbaki was a pseudonym for a group of nine mathematics that gave out books and music. One of the persons behind this pseudonym is named Andre. According to the map of Dema, Andre is also the name of one of the bishops of Dema. Nicolas Bourbaki mentioned “509 Clancy” in one of their books. @Aischylos Lowell I read somewhere that vialism means bottling up emotions, like the theme of people being silent about their depression/suicidal thoughts that he talked about at 4:30 . If you read the text at 3:27 , it says that "the bishops instituted vialism as a mandate." So when Twenty One Pilots renounced vialism, they effectively regained control over their voices from Dema and became free to write/sing about Dema. Edit: and I think it also means they're telling us it's okay to share our problems with others and to get help

Another thing I want to point out in defense of Heathens being a prequel to Jumpsuit. Tyler has the exact same cut on his nose in both videos which to me is the biggest visual confirmation that both are linked and are meant to follow each other.

Dema refers to an ancient burial process most commonly known as the tower of silence. Bodies were placed into an open air structure, where scavengers and the elements were allowed to remove the unclean elements of the body until only the bleached skeleton remained. The skeleton would then be covered in wax and placed in a trench. I always wondered the significance of the skeleton suits they would wear in concert...makes sense now.

For me personally,Dema is Moscow.Yellow...it reminds me something,meybe events in Ukraine in 2014year , Revolution of dignity,also after it , Russian military intervention in eastern ukraine. Lea Jones Nicolaism was a Christian heresy, and the number 9 spiritually means judgement. Personally I think it represents a different side to Trench, as the Bishops are part of the "heresy" of Tyler's beliefs, which is to stay alive. They're coming to judge him for doing what is right for those who choose to join him. Also, in contrast to "trench" (think "deep", there are so many refrences to being "high" (levitate, the "niners" as in being in "cloud nine", Tyler's jumpsuit taking him "so high"). And how Trench is in the East (which he says is "up"). In Japanese, the name Nikko means "daylight", and the Sun rises in the East. The number 9 also sounds similar to Japanese for "death", which is why they consider it bad luck. There are also references to sunflowers. Which is probably why they chose the color yellow. "The sun will rise, and we will try again". I believe this is Tyler's / Clancy's way of fighting for "staying alive".

i want to propose the theory that this whole thing goes back to car radio. i know i know it’s not likely but hear me out. in the video for levitate tyler shaves his head as he does in car radio. this may have something to do with the fact that this is some rebellion from the dema and i think when tyler talks about someone stealing his car radio it’s a metaphor for someone stealing his joy and expression. music is often used as a form of expression and his is gone, stolen by someone (dema) and now he sits in silence, or is forced into silence with his thoughts and demons thinking about how “we’re all battling fear” quote car radio. battling fear is the equivalent to fighting demon, or what dema represents, our fears and insecurities. if i missed something please let me know. edit: in nico and the niners you can hear a sound that sounds REALLY similar to the beginning of ode to sleep so this could potentially go back to vessel itself. In songs like Run and Go you hear him say how he’s killed a man, blurryface or at least what the bishops represent, and in Fake You Out he says, “our brains are sick but that’s ok” sick being a mental illness. I think vessel might take place in the future after tyler has escaped dema and is experiencing almost a ptsd state where he doesn’t know what he is or what to do without dema because it’s all he’s ever known. I just realized that the last note of leave the city is the same as the note at the end of truce.

No idea if this common knowledge or not but just thought it was interesting. In the song “Doubt” on blurry face one of the verses go: “Gnawing on the bishops Claw away at the system” No idea what the second line means but the first line might be a reference to the 9 bishops. “Repeating simple phrases Someone holy insisted” Dunno really what this means but maybe it’s like propoganda inside dema. “Want the mark he's made on my skin To mean something to me again” This seems like a strong reference to the black mark on Tyler’s neck during the blurry face era. Also the second part might be him saying that the bishops what him to embrace dema again like during the blurry face album. “Hope you haven't left without me Hope you haven't left without me, please” This is again a direct reference to what was said In the video about Clancy being left behind. George Egan I said the same. There are hints everywhere in Blurryface towards Dema. Lane Boy for example reiterated the need to stay in line with society as in Dema' society. Message man says to be careful when messing with the mesage man and that only some would understand the lyrics....I think this refers to only people who suffer from depression understanding but also to codes used for the revolution and possibly passed on by a message man.

Let me add something: The red/yellow is a reference to a movie called "the village", or so it seems like, at least The people in the village are terrified to go outside it during the night because there are there "monsters". The monsters are actually the elders, dressed in red. The one colour the villagers used to scare away the monsters, was obviously yellow. I think it fits well, as it is someone from the inside holding them captured, not from the outside, as well as we see in the video that Nico, at least, is very old. It's also obvious that the yellow rose petals makes the bishop and his horse scared and uncomfortable.

I think the colors has more to do with how scientists has linked colors to be involved with peoples favorite music. Like this is feeling yellow is hope, optimism etc. And Red is something negative. So prisoners of Denma use yellow, because the "monsters" can't see it or it does something to them. Hello! While I’m on a long car trip I decided to make a compiled list of all the Bishop names and parts of the songs they’re tied to, since I couldn’t seem to find one! Nico's meaning is BLURRY.

My theory on the petals and yellow and all that is not that nico/dema is scared of the color yellow but that it was all a bigger metaphor, Tyler was getting pulled backed into his anxiety and then the rebellion showed up showering him with these petals- or their reassurance and affections, yellow is seen as a happy color and so it would make sense that a rebellion against dema would use it, they are fighting for happiness and freedom, something Tyler is trying to find in spite of his insecurities

I think that they're scared of yellow because it's usually situated with happiness and being carefree and they don't want that and so they're trying to contain tyler and keep him away from their happiness so that they can't help him get better..

Trench also goes back to car radio. In the song levitate tyler says “I got back what I once bought back In that slot I won't need to replace” referring to the lyrics “To replace that slot with what I once bought 'Cause somebody stole my car radio And now I just sit in silence”

before i get comments about it. YES, i know there's a new clancy letter. i wrote this before that, so chill! what do i think it means? well i think it shows that clancy might not specifically be tyler in this storyline. however, i do think tyler is some sort of nameless character anyways, someone we can all step into the shoes of. it's a heroes journey at the end of the day. so who is clancy? well i hope to elaborate more in a follow up video once we get some more music from the boys, but as of right now i'm seeing everything about this world being metaphors. i think everything about this universe is representing an internal struggle of someone fighting mental illness. being pulled back into DEMA is being pulled back into a darker state of your mind, rebelling into the banditos is where hope lies, the trench itself being a metaphor for the struggle of escaping your anxiesties, as we see one of the embodiments of these anxieties actually catch up to the character tyler is portraying and draw him back towards dema. CLANCY seems to possibly be a metaphor or a representation for a more rational side to the mind of our lead character, the rational mind wants to help and support you but sometimes it will just watch from afar, unable to offer that support you may need internally. i think the turn of events in the story will be clancy learning to come to terms with the past and how bad dema truly was and try to get tyler, or our hero character, out of the trench and with the banditos, where hope lies.

I very much agree, and regardless, your theory is really good. But I would like to say that I think that I believe that, if your theory is somewhat correct, and the videos are linked, the hds video takes place in tylers mind, I say this because of the scar that he has on his nose ,that is also on the heathens video but not on the hds one, and this "mind trip" is what motivates him to try to escape. And he escapes the prison and goes east. Idk what I'm talking about. But anyway, I really enjoyed the video, hope you do more. I mean, I'm pretty sure you will, any twenty one pilots video will get you them sweet views.

Whilst watching heavydirtysoul music video i noticed at 3.22 i believe josh is wearing the new ||-// tøp logo on his hat we only see it once in the video so maybe we knew about the logo from a long time ago or else i am being an idiot who hasn't gotten any sleep in 2 days 😂

Also about why yellow and why east is up. Yellow represents the rising of the sun. As we know, Tyler fights his battles and struggles with his thoughts mainly at night and is relieved when morning comes. You know where morning comes from? East. The east and yellow represent & remind Tyler not to give up because the sun will rise again. They may also represent different things within this universe they are creating but it always comes back to this. The sun will rise and we will try again ||-//

I have another theory to add to your heathens one. Tyler says “all my friends are heathens”. The definition of a heathen is “an unconverted member of a people or nation who does not acknowledge the God of the Bible”. What if Tyler and his “friends” are heathens to vialism (the religion created by the nine bishops of dema). In the first few lines of nico and the niners is reversed. It is josh saying “We are banditos, You will leave Dema and head true east, We renounce Vialism”. Josh is possibly the leader of the banditos. The first of the banditos to pop out are his friends/family. So what I’m saying is that the banditos are the heathens Tyler is referring to

Nico/ Blurryface is Tyler's alter ego. In the song Goner, he says "I've got two faces, blurry's the one I'm not" This means that he tries to not be Blurryface by pretending it isn't who he is

I'm REALLY new like really here in the fandom, and i heard a lot things about dema & clancy n stuff. I didn't know what all that means, but this explains almost everything, thankyou :)

Omg guys I'm onto something Isle of Flightless Birds is a little random, right? But is it possible that it connects to Trench? Yes! "They fly around while we are walking and mold our emotions just to please them" He's talking about the bishops molding his emotions to make themselves happy. Also, I think that the bishops are the vultures. "The light will set us free" Yellow? That's a light color, right? And the torches/fire make light. Also, that would explain why Nico is scared of yellow, because he doesn't want Tyler to be free. "I will fly with no hope, no fear" Tyler is going to "fly" with the bishops (cause they're vultures), even though he doesn't want to. No hope, no fear? He doesn't see any hope of escaping, but he's not afraid of them either. "His time-we're wasting" They're wasting Nico's time by capturing Tyler. "While we repeat the same routine" Tyler escapes, gets captured, repeat. "It's time you pick your battle, and I promise you, this is mine" Tyler's battle against the bishops and/or his depression/anxiety. I think I'm on to something...

At 9:24 Josh could be spirituality that's inspiring him or it could be the emotion, that's inspiring him, the memory maybe. Josh could be the euphoric hallucination of Josh's future or potential but it's not real, or some godly revelation, like in Tyler's case some inner Jesus just like in "my blood". He can see something and it influences life but other people can't see it.

I know you know about the perspective of Clancy as a 3rd person watching all this... so I won't bother with that... But just... Rewatch the video and tell me the first scene of Tyler lying in the riverbed looking up and around isn't the actual ending. Because the actual beginning of the video (putting on the jacket, walking away from the car, heading to trench) is at the end... so it makes the beginning of the video gives us a little flashforward. He walks through the trench, sees the banditos, the bishop catches up, the petals create a diversion so Tyler can grab a flower, he makes a break, and then we see him in the river faking his death... and that's where he wakes up at the beginning of the MV. Lying in the river, looking around as if he's expecting to see people in the cliffs. Guys, Tyler actually does quite a bit of acting that gives us these clues...

I think "Bishops hate yellow" 10:19 is not the answer... but those yellow petals mean a change. As used in cinema, yellow means: wisdom, knowledge, relaxation, "joy, happiness, optimism, idealism, imagination, hope, sunshine," dishonesty, cowardice, betrayal, jealousy, covetousness, deceit, illness, hazard. Sunshine could also be related to "East is Up", where sun rises. Makes me think more of a color that mean an optimistic change for the band which is leading to happiness and "killing their own DEMA's". As we could see on your video was already used on Heathens for that exact purpose, for a CHANGE, a change for "good".

Also yellow is the colour used in campaigns against suicide or depression, is really a colour that represents good changes in a persons life and on the struggle to overcome mental diseases.

Awesome video! I've been so confused about this new album, and watching this video helped me begin to understand what this is all about.

one little nitpick: i don't think Tyler/Clancy was captured again at the end of Jumpsuit. He's flowing down a stream with a yellow flower on his chest, and Nico watching from a short distance. i think it means more of a narrow escape of sorts, seeing as yellow represents the rebellion

May I point out tyler also has scars on his face in heathens and in jumpsuit he has the same scars. This comment might help your theory so that helps link them!
