It definitely helped when they switched to much larger hooks. You get a better idea of how it works. You could see that Keith was starting to understand it. I hope he goes back and gives the more typical smaller hooks another chance.

The ladies crocheting: let's go to the mall and get wine. The men crocheting: let's act out an entire crochet themed war scene.

When teaching crochet, I think it's super important to let the learner know that there's multiple ways to hold the crochet hook. When I was learning, I thought there was only pencil grip and that hurt my hand like an absolute bitch as I have arthritis, so I gave up on crocheting very quickly. When I saw a video of someone crocheting with knife grip I decided to give it another go and have now been crocheting for years as this grip is incredibly more comfortable and doable for me. I feel that teaching multiple grip types is make or break when it comes to learning crochet.

Yeah I never could hold the hook like she’s got them doing- I hold my hooks “wrong,” more like Ariel but not exactly. I’m also really bad at holding tension the way you’re supposed to, and mine is probably gonna give me joint problems later in life, lol. But I can FLY through a project.

I love how Ned and Ariel were so calm and talking about how they’re getting row by row down meanwhile Keith was having a mental breakdown and Becky was trying to comfort him while getting row by row

Can we talk about how nice and patient that woman was with Keith when he got frustrated. I feel like thats how teaching should be especially when the student is upset and stressed. I love her and im so proud of Keith for making so much progress

Is because she was such a good teacher that Keith was able make so much progress. She encouraged him and gave him that small push that made the skill get unlocked and everything to click in his head. I would love to be taught by her. She seems like a cool and sweet teacher.

usually when you've done something before and get back into it, you pick it up real fast. craft work like crocheting is muscle memory, you don't completely lose those instincts

Ariel appreciation comment - what a superwoman. host of two podcasts, mother of a toddler, wife to ned, AND JUST GAVE BIRTH TO A NEW BORN (DID YALL HEAR SHE WAS ONLY PUSHIG FOR LIKE 18 MINUTES - SHE IS WONDER WOMAN)

As a crocheter this was my first time seeing someone holding their hook like a pencil. Or it was just the first time I noticed that I'm probably holding mine wrong. So I tried holding it like a pencil and I've never gotten so frustrated at my slow pace and the many mistakes💀 No wonder they thought crocheting is so hard

a lot of people do pencil grip, you and i both do knife grip (unless you have a super wacky third way), different people have different preferences for which is more comfortable and faster for them. but absolutely, i also tried pencil grip once and it was just yikes

Watching Keith freak out in the beginning gave me flashbacks to math class in high school. Everyone just getting it and moving along and me just not getting any of it and internally screaming😆

Keith is the kid that doesn’t even try during the lesson cause he knows the teachers gonna have to help him 😂😂

@@bailey7902 hey, no it's not strange at all! I'm happy to help! Bella Coco was a YT channel that I used a lot - her videos are really easy to follow and she has a lot of patterns and different types of stitches (just look through her playlists :) ). I also used a lot of pinterest for patterns - I just searched "baby toy crochet pattern" and a lot comes up, and then you just go through and find what one you like best. All patterns have a hook size and yarn that you can use but honestly, you can use whatever yarn you want - and then a respective hook size to match that yarn (yarns have the hook size that they need written on the packaging, or you can just eye-ball it yourself, the hook just needs to be able to grab the yarn cleanly without it slipping or falling off). Hope this helps, and good luck!

My late aunt taught me to crochet "chain first"; so, until years after she passed away, did I learned the other stitches from books and You Tube. Turns out, my aunts' method is right... most pattern would have chain stitches, smack dab in the middle of the work, so, if you're not adept at it, you risk ruining your hard work!

so did my grandma (like keith, i wanted to just make a really long chain. i actually quit for a few years because i couldn't figure out any other stitch but i tried again in high school and it was better)
