The Truth - Exposing Gigabyte’s AWFUL Practices
If your looking at buying a GPU in 2022 I highly recommend avoiding Gigabyte graphics cards. Not only has Gigabyte had a bad year in 2021 making some of the worst power supplies, but nearly every AIB Gigabyte graphics card I have owned had some sort of issue, which to be fair is a pretty small sample size, and not enough to make any definitive statements, but what I can say is their RMA service is absolutely terrible and is the main reason I cannot recommend any Gigabyte products at all. After my Gigabyte RMA disaster I will never again be purchasing one of their GPUs.

They do NOT care about their customers!!!! At this point i feel i have been stolen from! it was the most expensive aurous ITX motherboard offered! I wish i could show you pictures of the very few emails i have received from them, i have never been treated this way in my life. I will NEVER buy a gigabyte product again!!

I have been in the computer business for about 30 years. I've seen it all. MSI, Gigabyte, ASUS had much higher standards in the nineties. We sold a lot of Biostar. That was because it was cheaper then those big names. Nowadays, if we talk motherboards, memory, PSU's, Graphic Cards I do clearly notice that the percentage of D.O.A.'s and RMA's is much higher. But that's not the issue. In the early days we just send back what came back broken or dead from our customers, and we got credited with no discussion. Nowadays they all have problematic and time consuming processes. Luckily I found a real good supplier, that takes these blows for me. It is not just Gigabyte. It's something within the whole industry. A sort of arrogance. They decide what to do when there is a problem. They will only give in when they have to, or for bad publicity. It is all about the bottom line now. I must admit, in the glory days, like I call that era, margins were up to 30 percent, so there was more then enough room for spill. You still made a profit by replacing dead parts. Margins are so slim right now, as strange that it might sound with actual GPU prizes, that every penny needs to be turned. The PC world has changed. The people I used to speak to, the sales managers of those companies, were gamers and PC enthousiasts themselves. Now they are regular businesmen, with no idea about computers. And no love for them. Only love for money! gREETS FROM A GRUMPY OLD bOOMER!

I was just about to write pretty much similar comment. The question is, how to change the industry for the better? Well, one important aspect is to raise these issues on the table when they occur. But I think the reviewers and tech tubers could and should focus on other quality and quality of life aspects more when reviewing parts. Obviously that's really tough thing to do and probably only possible for the biggest channels in reality. But do they want to break the bonds between brands... I think many do not want to pay more of what is absolutely necessary because they think the money will just make the stock holders richer. And perhaps even if people would know that the extra part is going for better customer service, most would think "I don't need that as my product will not break." Hard to say.

@@juzujuzu4555 When I had my computer shops the whole chain, from manufacturers, to suppliers, shops and customers, was one.We were in fact all pioneers..The whole industry was young and had to prove itself. That attracted a different kind of people to the busines then we see nowadays. In fact, I sold my regional chain of shops to a group of professional investers. Within a year they went bankrupt on these shops. No feeling for it. The market was great when they bought it, but they f'd it up. A bit like the Newegg situation. After a take over it is just about the earnings, not about the clients. And the manufacturers are exactly the same. Believe me, a lot got to do with things like Planned Obsolescence, or at least bringing building costs down as much as possible. We all know how Foxconn and other factories make their money. But what to do? I don't know. I think we reached a point of no return. Things will never be the same as it was then. The times have changed. We now are seemingly willing to pay thousands of dollars for a bit of a better graphics card then the previous generation. I watch the tech channels. They are still hoping and praying for a 3090TI.... Who bloody cares any more.... We should ignore the bullshittery

@@robertcraane7910 I have a feeling that this decade will change things, it won't become like it was, but most will have saturated their excitement for new hardware. I followed tech mainly because I hoped AMD would raise from the ashes. I hated Intel so much because of the crimes Intel did, well all the time, but especially in the 2005 onward. I still run my Gigabyte UD7 mobo from 2009. It's the first mobo with USB3 and Sata3. Later bought used 6c/12t CPU that runs near 4ghz, and 48GB of DDR3 in 3 channel mode. I had decent GPU that broke, and I bought new graphics card at 19€, it was new graphics card with taxes and all =D AMD HD 4450 or something. Passive cooled and the heatsink is still the same sized as they were in the 90s CPUs. I thought I would be coming back to gaming later, but I lost my interest. Now for God knows how many years I have watched FPS comparisons that to me seem insane. Obviously you should review the products, but for example, where are the image quality comparisons? At some point AMD had much better quality in the graphics. We used to compare quality in the 2000s but 2010s just dropped that completely. E-sports, which I kind of understand, but also I hate it, is probably one reason why people got addicted to insane FPS numbers and trying to improve latency etc. essentially useless things. And techtubers obviously have been "brainwashing" people to hype new things, and the moment those products are released it's all about the rumors of next gen. I'm so happy I grew up in the 90s and had opportunity to be part of the demoscene. Computing in the 90s was amazing. It was the counterculture, and demoscene was the cool underculture of computing. It's kind of impossible to explain that feeling. I had a neighbor/kind of friend who had his own computer shop. He was passioned and was there because he wanted to serve the customers. Internet kind of killed local computer shops, and then other tech related shops. This became a long novel. So I stop by agreeing that we should stop the bullshittery and I feel the tides are starting to turn.

I think we will race to the semi-photoreality point and then it's going to slow down. Often AIB's also send refurbished cards as replacements which I assume happened here, which is probably the reason it took long for them to replace it even when they had new cards in stock. I've seen it happen multiple times that people had like 3 DOA replacements which were refurbs. This wasn't only about Gigabyte, nearly all AIB's have issues like this, but I think it is definitely the worst with Gigabyte. Pretty bad that's even allowed in the US, in my country they are required to repair/refund/replace with new unused parts.

I don't know why people say EVGA are good, in the UK EVGA are fucking terrible. I had 2 RMAs at once, Valve index and and EVGA PSU. EVGA refused to pay for postage even after they received the item, which they didn't make clear until they already had it. So I ended up spending more than half the value of the PSU just posting the PSU back to them, whereas if I had known, I would've just bought a new and better PSU. Valve sent me a prepaid postage label to return the index, as you would expect from any decent online RMA service in the UK.

Just be glad you didn't RMA it to Newegg -- they'd deny it because of "bent pins." And, while EVGA may have a better RMA process, they don't get absolved on the greed factor, either. How many of us have been on their waiting list for cards for over a year? I could understand it if they simply had a supply shortage and were struggling to fill all those orders, but I still seem to see plenty of those same cards available new from Amazon and Newegg for well above MSRP. It's obvious that those on the waiting list are simply being strung along while they instead ship the vast majority of their newly-produced cards elsewhere for a lot more money. (I personally suspect that you won't see those waiting-list orders being filled until the 40 series comes out, and those 30-series cards are now "obsolete.") If that isn't greed, what is?

Same, I bought a x570 Aorus Master motherboard from them and there are so many problems. The Cmos battery was defective and fan headers do not work if you change bios. The bios kept resetting to factory settings. It was just a nightmare. I submitted a ticket about 1.5 years ago and they still have not fixed the problems to date. I do not mind as defects in manufacturing happen, but to not fix their problems is bad for the consumer. I will not buy anymore products from them until they change their policy. I prefer a brand that will fix their problems. Gigabyte is not one of those brands.

I remember an issue with a GTX 1050ti low profile card, Gigabyte fixed it under warranty 3 times, yes 3 times, after the card failed the 4th time the guy I built the PC for ended up just buying a new card. Each time I sent it in for warranty it took them 2 months so for the first 8 months of use it spent 6 months at gigabyte. After that if I can avoid gigabyte I do, their motherboards seem pretty solid, I've never had an issue there but this experience with a low spec gpu over and over was enough for me to never buy gigabyte cards for myself. I'll stick to EVGA.

A combination of shortages, PR issues and just shoddy quality means RMAs take forever for almost all companies. I'm surprised you got one in *only* 2 1/2 months to be frank. • @robrath31

FACT! I work in the industry. They (gigabyte) are so desperate for parts to manufacture and repair, that they are essentially buying the parts back from you when giving you a credit for your faulty card. It helps them fix/replace/trade/upgade the people that WON'T accept credit, and it doesn't alter their ability to supply their new stock for the market which has been in high demand for longer than I can hold my breath and then some. No excuses here, it sucks for end users, but they're doing what they can with what they've got. Any money they're making on super expensive cards is put back towards covering them losing out when you get a 3060 to replace your 2060 or a 3070 to replace your 3060 etc etc.

MSI are way worse, they wouldn’t reply to my emails for a month for my RTX 3080 suprim x GPU. My Vram was hitting 110c instantly on every game as soon as I started playing it and throttled the card to a point where it was worse than a 1050. When I finally got a reply after a month of emails, they said it’s within spec and they can’t open an RMA because the GPU is still working within spec after explaining the Vram was making it throttle to a point where it was unplayable. I then sent further emails for a month for them to reply with this case is already closed and fobbed me off. In the end I had to open up the card myself and void the warranty to find out the thermal pads aren’t even touching half the Vram chips so I had to get thicker ones off amazon and that solved the issue.

Great video & thanks for not been frightened to tell everyone of your experience. When any customer buys a particular make of product over another make in my opinion that customer has given their hard earned money, trust & loyalty to that brand. If that trust & loyalty is then not reciprocated if their product does let the customer down then they more than deserve to be named & shamed. Having to wait over two months is disgraceful & they more than deserve.this slating, hopefully your video will put a little dent in their profits & boost their competitors sales a little too. I hope also this filters back to some of the top brass at Gygabyte & they take it on board. I'd like them to know too that I'm not bothering trying to get a rediculously priced 30 series card there now & I'm sure lots of other customers will be doing the same, I'm waiting for the 40 series which undoubtedly will be rediculously priced too so when I do spend my hard earned money I want to know I'll be looked after for my expensive loyalty to the brand I choose to go with which from research & hear say IS looking like EVGA purely because of their customer service which gives the impression they do give a little bit of a damn about their customers. I hope some of the top brass at EVGA are listening too so that hopefully they will not get complacent & let their customer service slip down the shoddy sales hitting money losing Gigabyte route!

Gigabyte 3090 reached 105 C out of the box while my msi suprim X had 75 C out of the box and worst case in summer had 95C. Gigabyte GPUs use very bad thermal pads and paste. My Suprim X went from 95 C in the summer heat wave to 76 C after my repad. It could improve Gigabyte too, but I also think the heatsink is inferior compared to the Suprim X msi

  • @zzz-vd5rp

The pads are just bad on gigabyte cards. I've re pad my 3090 eagle oc and the vram temps have improved significantly like from 120-122°c when mining to 90-92 worse case scenario. I chose mining since its the most taxing on vram temps. If you're using it normally it should be fine with a repad. Suprim X is a high end card and pretty much msi's highest end product, comparable to asus rog strix and evga ftw 3. If you've gotten aorus master the heatsink would've been a really beefy 4 slot one instead of a 3 slot one for the cheaper models from gigabyte so I wouldn't complain too much. I had no problems with the 3 slot heatsink and they kept my card really cool since they only have 2 x 8 pin.

@@zzz-vd5rp yeah you are right, I should of compared Suprim X to Aorus since both are premium. But for a 1500$ (unicorn price) premium or not it's unacceptable for such a high end card to run over 90C in my opinion. You got the repad temps that I got after 6 months mining, no repad and 40C ambient from summer heat wave. I don't think manufacturers have a pass on a card that cots 3-4K $, a good heatsink and good pads barely hit a few hundred bucks or even lower at manufacter price.

That city probably hold the record of the slowest postal service among the entire west coast of US. After they received the card (I can track it from UPS) it took them 1 week before the RMA page status changed to "Received", then it took another week from from "Received" to "Moved it to technician's desk". The whole repair took exactly 2.5 months which is the "normal" time for them to repair the card, according to my experience and everybody in Gigabyte reddit. Since the last 2 repair, it now shows signs the fan maybe dying again (grinding noise) Yeah, I will never buy another Gigabyte GPU ever again.

Gigabyte is the one AIB I've actively stopped using all together. This was long before the exploding power supply thing. In the many PCs I've built for myself and others over the years I've had more issues with Gigabyte than all others combined, and returns having a long turn around time. I don't know if it's telling of an overall problem with Gigabyte or I just seem to have horrible luck, but it's simply not worth my time anymore. Especially if someone is waiting for a PC they've already put money down on. Now you're making _me_ look incompetent. This is why I've been solid EVGA for several years now. With what we've gone through over the last 2 years gamers and PC enthusiasts aren't going to put up with this crap anymore. We watched record numbers of GPUs built being reported and a tiny trickle actually reaching the retail space as these AIBs shipped pallets directly to miners without even having a chance to purchase them. Then that tiny trickle that DID hit the retail space were all being scalped by the AIBs directly, then packed in bundles with unsellable garbage or placed behind paywall programs and lotteries by retailers. You're seeing it now with more and more videos and articles surfacing of the horrible services and products these companies are peddling while expecting us to act like the orphan Oliver saying "Please, Sir, may I have some more?" Just last year Newegg sold me an AIO as "new" that was obviously an open box. I let it slide cause it seemed to work fine and couldn't wait for the RMA turn around time. Pump died just outside of warranty, of course, and left me wondering how many hours did that pump run in someone else's PC before it was sold to me. You were already on my list, Newegg, before trying to screw Gamer's Nexus and UFD Tech. Customers are getting savvy again guys, and we aren't willing to put up with this shit anymore.
