Agreed. Thing I loved about her first Emmy acceptance speech was when she said more TV/film casting agents should look to stage performers when searching for talent. I was the geeky kid that ran sound or lights for my live performer friends in college. Man, I wish I'd seen Hannah live, she must have been amazing.

"I'm a bitch" I think is what sets the tone (right from the start) down a road to him forgiving her. Its not waffling. Its self critical. It places the blame nowhere but on herself.

yes! I think the big thing was that she was taking full accountability for her actions and why she did it, not as an excuse but to show where her head was at and why it was wrong. there's just nothing more you can ask for in a true apology! 🩶

A true best friend will tell you what you NEED to hear, rather than what you want to hear. That's what makes Beard the best! (The same is true for Keely and Phoebe.)

My favorite line from the scene in Ted's place when Roy's adjusting to his new role - "Or play in America. Where I'd dominate, by the way.." It's actually a nod to US fans of the game. The old NASL was this country's 'first division' league from the late '60s to the mid '80s. What killed it was rich teams paying crazy high sums to older European stars and the poor teams couldn't keep up. Clubs went bankrupt and folded. When our current first division league (MLS) started playing in the mid '90s, they were so afraid of that happening again that they instituted a salary cap. And then David Beckham married that Spice Girl. Who wanted to move to Los Angeles, even though Becks wasn't quite done with football yet. LA has one of the original MLS clubs. The league was chomping at the bit to have a player of Beckham's popularity play in the US, so they created the "Designated Player" rule. You could select a player and pay them whatever you could afford. We still call it the 'David Beckham Rule'. And after almost 20yrs after all that happened, we're up to three per club now. 🤣

About benching Roy... If it was all about Roy and his feelings and his career, Ted would be right. But it's not. Having a player in the starting 11 who isn't up to the job hurts team play and team morale. Relegation is a big deal! Beard and Nate are right to want Roy benched, and eventually Roy comes to accept his new role, too. If changing the lineup this late in the season is going to help much, who knows?🤷‍♀️

@@ryannrodkey5669 When I first started watching international football, I knew nothing about the relegation/promotion system, because that doesn't happen in US sports. Personally I think it's a brilliant system. I like that if a team stinks it loses its place in its current league, and if a team in a lower league does super well, it gets promoted to a higher league. It makes the consequences of winning and losing mean a whole lot more. So in the Ted Lasso world, Richmond faces being relegated from the Premier League (the highest tier) down to the Championship. If they do get relegated, the next season they have the chance to be promoted back to the Prem...or to be relegated to an even lower league.

@@TallyDrake , yeah..there just isn't enough football in the US. We're such a hybrid of traditional football, and how US pro leagues work. To get into the 1st tier, a prospective 'new' club owner has to have blueprints for a new multi-million dollar stadium in their back pocket. Those folks aren't going to spend that much money to be relegated.

I think (at least a bit) you're missing the point of Beard's speech. He's not JUST talking about winning. He's talking about the consequences of losing. If Roy gets upset at being benched it affects one person. If Roy isn't benched and became the reason the team is relegated and sent down to a lower league, it affects EVERY player. Not to mention the owner, the team coaching and management, the fans and... even the economy of the entire region. Teams in lower leagues bring less tourist money to the region, to restaurants, pubs, hotels, etc. Less media coverage. Less advertising and sponsorship. Just... less. He certainly wasnt mentioning most of that. He most directly meant the other players. Who won't get good salary increases if they go to a lower league. Any players on loan from other teams might be yanked. They personally wouldn't get endorsement deals that are nearly as good. Plus, of course they likely just hate losing. Again, this presupposes Roy starting causes relegation. No character there would know for sure if that would happen. But Beard knows Roy getting those starts are equalling really bad play on the pitch. There's plenty of reason to think its hurting the team. Beard implying Ted is selfish seems to be about Ted sparing himself a hard decision at the team's expense.

Really really well said! I totally agree and see where you’re coming from! I honestly am learning pretty much everything about professional football from scratch from what is shown in this show so I didn’t really understand the impact of the relegation- mostly because this was the first time it was really spoken about as a serious potential but also never really discussed the impact that would truly have on everything. But the way you laid it out makes a lot more sense! Thank you!! 😊🩶

@@Wiley_Coyote Yes, well said! Relegation also makes it hard to sign good players that could help get the team promoted. Plus there is big money for staying in or getting promoted to the top tier league, not to mention the extra money for playing in the Champions and Europa leagues. The financial impacts of relegation are huge!

You should check out Derek by Ricky Gervais, it's a real heart warming little series with some fun thrown in, plus it's got Roy Kents actor in it yay.
