When I was a kid, I apparently loved this show. One day, my mother told me that I was sitting at a friends house, in my friends room and the living room tv was being flipped through random channels, with the mute on for the sound. There was no way for me to know the show came onto the tv, but once she flipped to it and left it there, I BURST into the room screaming “TELETUBBIES!” She refused to let me watch the show after that and swiftly replaced it with blues clues. I love her for this.

Man I loved this show as a kid and those speakers and that windmill really did make me feel some type of way. It’s hard to explain but I definitely was like attached to those things and somehow to this day when I see them in this video I have a faint memory of how that feeling was. Almost like a sense of euphoria or being high

I loved watching this! Alex nailed this. It speaks so strongly to us who grew up with this show and in retrospect see how eerie it really was. The bright colours, repetition and auditory/visual cues all make for what appears to be something very entrancing and potentially addictive to children. There is no learning but instead a narrator who describes actions made and the reasons for them. The microphone (representing periods of dictates) has a dissonant sound that contrasts the soft and harmonious melodies throughout the show. When they defy he just presses on, very slightly changing the tonality of his voice. These creatures always give in after that certain point as though they are a like cogs in a wheel following a script that is made to not appear like one. There is no real consequence and no hard lessons. It's just mindless fluff which makes kids in my view more likely to feel unfulfilled and become defiant, because (after all) nothing bad ever happens in Teletubies. The part of utmost joy to me was the vacuum cleaner Noo-Noo. This character reminded me of a pet, acting somewhat erratically, cleaning (perhaps eating) the messes made which always consisted of food. At the same time it acted in an intelligent and sentient manner, doing nice things for the teletubbies like giving them toys and blowing bubbles. This dichotomy between the narrator and Noo-Noo very subtly contrasts the differences between directing actions in a commanding way versus leading them in a fun playful way. The prevailing guidance is always that of a commanding tone which relates to broader things that young children can't conceptualize yet (time for this/that, etc, without any explanation as to "why"). This appears at the end of every episode (goodbye time; a subliminal reference to bed time as the sun sets and they isolate themselves from each other). This I believe is a reflection of society in a microcosmic way, and thus one of many points of conditioning that creates a stimulus response in society at large. I love Alex's apropos comparison between this show and MK-Ultra. The 'repetition' experiment he mentioned was called 'psychic driving' which in a nutshell is a form of programming/brainwashing aimed at changing behaviour.

I actually have similar experience. I had a dream that I was in their home and that vacuum cleaner (I don't remember its name if it had it) was creepy. He had the look like he will kill someone and then Po was there and started screaming terribly. It scared shit out of me and I didn't watch it after that. And I used to cry whenever they would jump in hole at the end of episode

I used to have a toy version of po (red teletubbie.) However although the toy was not electronic some strange noises appeared to come from it late at night. I was around 4 at the time so I saw nothing wrong. My mom was creeped out and she kept it away from me for a while in her room. One day I woke up and my mom and dad looked white and scared. They put the toy in the attic and I haven’t been allowed in the attic since.

One thing you forgot to mention. The Teletubbies’ memories must be partially wiped at the end of every day, contributing further to their brain rot. This explains why they can see the same random magical events (i.e. the animal parade, the creepy puppet in the house etc.) in dozens of episodes each and still have the same overly excited reaction.

My childhood is already a mess so there's no point in changing it.

Heres a true story about how telletubies ended. There were speculations about tinky winky being homosexual since he was male and acted like a mother. I had a nightmare once that I've never forgotten where the purple one (who for some reason creeps me out the most) was about 100 feet tall and was moving in slow-mo while taking giant strides pursuing me. I don't know why, but I had this strong feeling that I'd be his meal once he caught me. The dream concluded when at the last moment before he'd be able to get me, I just leaped into the air and flew away (Superman style) believing I'd escaped a horrifying death had he caught me. I then awoke, heart racing and in a cold sweat, totally relieved it was only a bad dream. The kicker here was that I'd actually never really watched a Teletubbies episode before. Just seen a picture of them somewhere. But I think that even at a subconscious level they really did freak me out for some reason, especially the purple one who later showed up in that shitty dream.

I watched Teletubbies for a long number of years in my childhood up to the age of 13 believe it or not and I was actually a mature 13 year old.. I thought it was just cause they were cute but after watching this it makes a lot of sense to me .. I have always had trouble doing what’s right for me over doing something I had been told to do!! I never really rebelled and just did as I was told up until maybe a few years ago where I had a massive spiritual awakening broke out of the matrix and my whole perception on life changed… madness now I know why I don’t watch TV anymore 😇

I'm 36, a 90s kid. I actually remember watching this as a kid with my baby sister on my lap, on the floor in front the TV. Ps. I have 4 kids, I've never allowed them to watch this. Alot of kids used to have peach problems because they'd be so used to listening to the teletubbies that they would talk like them.

Why does everyone have a horror story about this show as a kid, I used to LOVE this show as a kid. I was obsessed with this show and as a child always uh a wanted to visit teletubby land😅 I even had good dreams that I visited teletubby land and played with the teletubbies for a day lol

I liked the teletubbies even though so many things gave me shivers. The vacuum cleaner, the speakers, the videos, and those scenes where you just saw animals walk forever and ever..

Dude I remember this. I watched this when I was obsessed with slendytubbies and now he is still making conspiracy videos. **sniff** they grow up so fast

I used to hate and love the Teletubbies at the same time when I was little.......And this demonic "vacuum cleaner" thing was creepy AF!!! (It still is.)

Can we pause and talk about how whenever it spins or it goes to do something or whatever they are like "oh no." Or "uh-oh!" And when it spins they always run off. Plus in Bubble Pictures I believe the episode was called, when it was projected the chosen Teletubby was like "oh no!" And just for a moment seemed miserable

Tbh I was always easily spooked by some shows as a kid and teletubbies was one of those that was especially freaky to me. I mean, if nothing else, their designs looks like they could easily fit into some weird horror film.

I am thankful that my baby cousin is growing up with Baby First and Disney Junior.

If you download the game Half Life from Steam and play multiplayer, there is a server that has "Teletubbie Civil War" in its name. The teams are Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laalaa, and Po. All the Teletubbies just killing each other. It's so ludicrous I love it. Don't know if it makes the show less creepy or more.

When ever Teletubbies is mentioned my mind almost immediately goes to that horror game Slendytubbies. I never played or watched anyone play it, it's just that my mind goes to that whenever I hear about Teletubbies.

Their food was pretty much burnt toast with icing wasn’t it? But they made it look so tasty. Also, the music brought back memories of when I’d watch creepypasta

My family said I used to always laugh whenever the baby in the sun came up. I don't ever remember laughing at it at all, but I do remember the feeling as a toddler that the show was boring to watch and always wanting to rather watch Tom & Jerry - that was my favorite show.

This really makes sense...I remembered Teletubbies when I was about 2 or 3, I clearly liked it but my parents banned me from watching it. When I turned 8, I stopped watching Teletubbies. At 3:00 A.M, the show got creepier. So when I went to sleep, I had nightmares about the Teletubbies. I liked the show when I was about 2 but when I turned 8, I hated Teletubbies but I noticed something. The Teletubbies were gonna watch the video, and when it was over, I saw the same thing.

I freaking laughed sooooo hard when it slowed down and zoomed out at "Po"!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
