Fun fact: The Teletubbies are over 6 feet tall. Po (red) is 6 feet 6 inches. Laalaa (yellow) is 6 feet 5 inches tall. Dipsy (green) is 8 feet tall. Tinky Winky (purple) is 10 feet tall.

Honestly the fact that the lion and the bear was banned internationally makes me jealous cuz i clearly remember watching it and being terrified the fact that i had to endure that trauma before it was banned is upsetting to me 😭

8:21 I KNEW that wasn't just some childhood nightmare I had. 9:42 Especially that creepy bear, which haunted me during my entire preschool period.

I blocked this out of my memory as a child, but the moment I heard the words "It's the bear... It's the bear..." I could feel the fucking dread I felt as a kid all over again. This episode haunted me.

Huh, I guess that makes sense. I remember I was much older when I saw teletubbies, I actually felt too old to be watching it. But I never saw this episode either.

Fun fact: the area it was filmed in was actually flooded due to trespassing. The landowner had enough of people breaking onto their land to explore it, so they just flooded the area

I remember that episode because I was absolutely traumatised by it. I watched it when I was two and my mom said I cried like hecc when that scene came on. And I still remember it even though it’s a lot more than 20 years later. The way they moved and especially something about their eyes and the sounds they made just scared the living frick out of me.

The reason why Teletubbies is so disturbing to people who aren’t toddlers is because it was designed for toddlers through a bunch of psychological research. Yes, they did scientific research and stuff on how to make a show appealing for toddlers.

When i was a kid, i remember, everytime that giant windmill spinning, i began to hide and waiting for clues of what will being shown, and started to notice the music changes. And when it come to this and puppet in the house one, i started ran off and turn my tv off immediately. That how much horrifying it was for me. So my parents rented a place and this one girl which was our neighbor, a bit older than me during that time, locked me inside the living room and force me to watch that horror, she put the volume up and it was the worst traumatizing experience in my childhood and started it all

No matter how hard I try, I cannot unsee the fact that there are adults dancing and running around in tellytubbie costumes

13:51 those boats actually terrified me, but it was less the boats but more of the valley being flooded with water with creepy drain noises playing prior to the boats showing up. I still have recurring nightmares of inescapable rising waters at 23 years old and i think that episode was a precursor to it

Man i just relived a core memory... this was my first horror movie back in 2001

Oh god I have horrible memories of this episode! I thought it was so embarrassing that this used to scare me to death, but after watching this I'm glad I'm not the only one! I think the majority of it came down to the music and the sound in general. It was just such a horrifying buildup to the reveal of the Bear and the Lion which I remember running out of the living room and I ran straight upstairs to my bedroom. The entire thing just felt so Erie as you described. Funnily enough though, at the time my parents used to actually make fun of me for being scared of it and they used to tease me which looking back it was pretty messed up of them (it was mainly my mother if I remember correctly). But I just remember trying to explain to them that I never wanted to watch the show ever again, and when the episode aired again I remember crying my eyes out because I once again heard that Horror sounding soundtrack haha.

Man, I remember clearly: Every time I noticed this segment was coming, I would hide behind the sofa crying and would be too scared to look again. (My mom had to convince me it was over) I remember at this time there was also a Finding Nemo trailer on a commencial break with the shark smiling with sharp teeth filling the whole screen. It would always be so sudden it was almost a jumpscare.

(I really wanted to, it could have been my first time ever watching a movie on theaters) but then when we were buying the tickets he saw the poster (wich was the same Bruce face from the trailers) and decided I would be afraid during the movie... Oh well, at least I eventually did watch it and it's one of my favorites from Pixar. (sorry if bad English, not my first language)

Not only cause of Bruce but also the scenes with the angler fish, the whale, and The barracuda.I was also terrified by the scene where nemo 1st got captured by the scooba diver. I don’t know why thought since the diver was just a human. What makes it weirder is that when I reminder watching scarier things when I was even younger, like 300, Deep blue sea, nightmare on elm street, Grimm brothers, robot chicken, a Bigfoot horror movie that I can’t remember the name of (all I reminder from it was a the plot being the handicap man and some girls in a house in the wood Beijing attacked by big foot, and a scene where he bites off someone’s face) and another movie that I can’t remember the name of but had this creature sticking its tongue in people mouths and making them into monsters. But for some reason I thought nemo was scarier then most of those. What do you think the reason is?

OMG yes ,exactly the same. when you saw the carrousel thingy come down and then you heard the music of this segment.

I can remember this episode terrifying me as a child. The part where the bear comes out from behind a bush and her eyes and tongue move around really freaked me out. Then when the lion came on screen and started growling, I screamed and ran out of the room. I think the only reason I remember this scene so vividly is because to this day, nearly 25 years later, my parents still occasionally bring it up and laugh about it...

THIS. EXACTLY. I remember having this conversation with my parents and they were laughing about how scared i was because of this show segment, it really brought back a lot of subconscious memories. I eventually looked it up in KZread years later and shat myself laughing. The show aired in my country when i was 1-4 years old so yeah, it was really disturbing back then for a toddler.

I’ll be honest, I never saw this episode as a kid, but the distant look of the lion scares me now looking at it as an adult. It has that dead eye look… something along the lines of a corpse manually animated. It’s a scary looking illustration.. it doesn’t look like a cartoon lion made to look alive. It looks like a cartoon lion that was once alive, but is now dead being pushed around as a puppet by a madman. Terrifying

Let's face it, nobody even WANTS to remember this very episode. 10:45 Well I actually never did just that...

I remember almost nothing about this show, other than the fact that there was a vacuum cleaner, and I loved him.

Teletubbies is probably my favorite show, im currently on season 5 and every episode is just a masterpiece! This show is peak fiction. I remember I watched this lost episode and it was definitely a hidden gem

I remember seeing this when it first aired, I must've been about 4. It didn't scare me at all, I actually enjoyed it! I remember it was the first time the Teletubbies weren't boring. Mind you, at that age I liked watching more horror-based shows like Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark so it's no wonder I enjoyed something that terrified my friends lmao

Making the lion even worse is the color of his irises. They're bright and shiny enough that when he sits in the sun correctly, it looks like they're *glowing* like an actual demon. And I'm 90% sure those pupils were somehow capable of shrinking and growing.

I remember being scared to death and having vivid nightmares about the bear chasing me. It was truly horrifying

I was young enough to watch this show all the time when it aired. And yes, the bear and the lion scared the hell out of me along with that weird dancing cg bear. And the footage of a bus going through it’s own version of a car wash for some reason. (Maybe it was the ominous music) Still, to this day I wonder who the hell thought ominous voices, awkwardly moving cutouts and nature footage sped up to the point that it looked unnatural was a good idea for a show aimed at toddlers.

Tinkie winkie was scared that the lion would bite off his winkie. Thus the terrifying scream.

I actually liked the tap dancing bear as a kid.

My most vivid memory from one of the eps was the one with the different animals going in a parade with this weird music and I loved it lmao cause it was so weird and funky. I remember the lion shown in this one as well and being creeped out by it

I remember watching that episode and being scared asf, but that was not the only episode that scared the sh1t out of me. There was this episode, featuring a wooden woman doll looking for her sheep. The movements, the voice and that part of the episode in general was so terrifiyng to me that i would hide under my dad’s piano for how much scared i was.

I remember a particular Teletubbies episode that gave me some trauma, the one where Po knocked a ball of string into the air with her scooter and the ball of string rolled around Teletubbyland

I actually thought that I'm the only person who got scared of this episode but I'm happy I'm not alone 😂. In fact, i didn't knew it got banned but after the traumatic Nightmares i got from this episode it's better for everyone. I even remember when i watched the episode in my grandmas House, that from the moment when this Part started, i jumped of the couch into the basements stairs until the episode was over.

The "I'm the bear and I'm coming" sounds like a perfect prhase for a murderer in horror movies.

We all had that nightmare

I grew up with this 90's classic. I remember this episode vividly, the Lion and the Bear. I remember being scared by them but also strangely very glad when they showed up. I was used to seeing Dinosaurs a lot (Dino Kid; future palaeontologist) so I'd seen scarier when I really shouldn't. I was more or less captivated by their 'presence' (not that I could have elucidated or explained it in such a manner then) I think they stood out as special and rarer and literally wanted to see them. Sort of like the spooky Chinese Dragon Train ('Percy and the Dragon' episode) in Thomas the Tank. Something special and rare showing up. That sort of thing always held my gaze. Whether I was a particularly, 'morbid' child I don't know for sure, though I was not sat there trying to scare myself. I was more or less just like everyone else, albeit perhaps more introverted. I just happened to watch these things and wasn't terrified but I was mildly scared. I think I would have watched this episode of the Lion and the Bear thing a few times. I even remember one linked memory involving seeing the Lion and the Bear, not for the first or the last time, on a family holiday in the place we were staying at (itself, now long since destroyed/demolished) Time flies. British 90's kids (especially early 90's) were subjected to this sort of surrealist and pretty unsettling stuff all the time. I know, I was one. There are so many examples of this it's not a surprise how so many of my generation were a few shillings short. That said, I also liked/loved Postman Pat, Walking With Dinosaurs, Come Outside, Chucklevision, Thomas the Tank Engine, Fireman Sam, Brum, the Borrowers and Wallace & Gromit, so, go figure. It was a magical time. In it's own, uniquely British 90's way. We were the post-industrial children of the post-war generation(s) and generally approaching the paradigmatic and temporal crossroads of a new millennium dawning on the horizon. There was a bizarre, 90's style mix of enthusiasm, hope, cultural exuberance (and depravity), reflection on the chaos of the 20th century and the changing scholastic and educational methods at various age levels, coming into the fore. It was a strange transitory time, a time in flux. Everything was in motion. Politics, lagging behind social evolution, lagging behind creative expression. And this weird jumble of stuff, in a British paradigm, was the result. Everyone was throwing everything at the wall and seeing what stuck. Just look at those teletubby houses. They look like a cross between a golf course, an alien spaceship (because, it is) and a doomsday prepper bunker. And who here can deny they wanted to eat teletubby custard all day long and those tubby toast things too? Sure there was some commercial version of the tubby toast if nothing else. Likely awful. The fact I have mentally blocked out eating tubby toast or just casually forgotten, shows the time that has elapsed since and the silliness of it all. I'm not saying that I only watched British shows. Obviously there were loads of things from all over the world, from Star Wars (a lot of which filmed and acted in the UK though just saying, often by British actors as a big chunk of the cast) from the USA to Dragon Ball Z from Japan. I loved all of it. I have vivid memories from the late 90's of Frieza's purply hued energy discs fighting Super Saiyan Goku on Namek (and it's fair to say the versions of DBZ I would have seen first on Cartoon Network - another odyssey of 90's uniqueness unto itself, in it's OG form; if you know, you know - was really going to be more of an American filter and dub on the Japanese original, which I only learned to understand later as I got older; you don't question these things, normally, as a kid) I loved Digimon more than Pokemon (Greymon, come on lads) and I loved other stuff like Angry Beavers and all kinds of Disney productions. Not ashamed to admit I liked the Power Puff Girls too (and yes there was this weird machismo stigma about liking that, way back when, at least in my experience; I must have just liked the vivid colours and animation style; still traumatised by the zombie magician, that thing used to horrify me as a small kid) But the British children TV scene was it's own unique contribution which was always so special in it's own right. Eccentric, reflecting at least three generations and maybe more of developing ideas on children's education - but also rather wildly transitory and eclectic. Some might say, hectic. There was a lot going on. A lot of old ideas lingering, and a lot of new ideas trying to barge them out of the way. It was essentially a free-for-all arena of conceptual creativity and new methodology. While something like Thomas the Tank Engine cornered it's own market for a long time and did very well in the UK, USA and Japan, other things like Teletubbies just sprouted up on TV and left their own rather iconic legacy. These Teletubbies were arguably like the Minions (eurgh) of their day. It's funny how differently our brains perceive things as we age. Innocence lost, youth remembered but never able to be returned to in the same way. Maturation and ageing changes us all. We can't go back. We can't see the world through the eyes and mindset of our former selves. Our jaded cynicism and biases are carried forward, as we age. This nostalgia for something we _did_ live through but can, somewhat tragically, but entirely naturally, _never_ get back to in full. We can never relive those days the same way, _even if_ we have all the materials and productions in front of us ready to watch. It is just gone, lost in time. There is something both melancholic and timeless about that feeling. I genuinely pity those born after 2000. They can never _truly_ understand. Never. Only a particular generation truly knows itself best. Yet even for those that grew up at that time, it is too difficult to comprehend it all now, in hindsight. And that time has passed, as if it had not been... P.S - Had a few deep belly laughs at this. Congratulations. 4:10 got me ugly laughing... 🤣

I did genuinely have nightmares due to this episode. My parents still quite the episode and the trauma of it to this day. This was by far the creepiest thing on the teletubbies and I have vivid memories watching with caution.. just in case this sketch came on. There was another creepy one to me, and that was the puppet in a doll house. I have always had this irrational fear of puppets though.

the reboot came out in 2015, the original version of Teletubbies ended in 2001

I didn't rlly think this episode was scary until the lion started repeating "WHERE'S THE BEAR?"

During Christmas in Norway we have a tradition of Christmas advent shows where every December they air an episode a day of a Christmas show till Christmas Eve. These shows are all really sweet and cozy and gets the viewers into that warm Christmas spirit. The first Christmas show or “julekalender” as we call it here is “Jul i Skomakergata”. It was aired for the first time in 1979 and regularly aired during Christmas until 2003 when it was replaced by newer more modern Christmas shows. I was born in 2001 so I just missed it while it was still aired on tv, however I was fortunate enough that my parents had it on dvd so I still got to enjoy it growing up. Although it didn’t have any banned episodes or scenes at least to my knowledge, it did have some moments that were mildly unsettling to me first time I watched it at the age of 4. The show follows this sweet old shoemaker while he goes about his day preparing for Christmas and interacting with his friends and neighbors. Every episode opens with him stepping out of his front door in the morning and then he starts talking to the viewer saying stuff along the lines of “nice to see your face again” and “don’t be shy, you don’t need to hide. Come inside” then inviting the viewer into his shop. As a 4 year old kid I couldn’t understand how this man inside the tv could see and talk to me or how he knew I was hiding behind the chair. It felt too real to me. Throughout the episodes he would occasionally acknowledge the viewers existence as if we were in the room with him wich to me was a bit unsettling as no other live action shows or movies I’d watched did this making it feel like this was a really a man inside the tv who knew I was there and spoke directly to me. He also had a mildly creepy looking shoe creature named Tøfflus living in the counter in his shop. Each episode Tøfflus would show a short stop motion film of a guy named Jon Blund who would travel around from town to town throwing sleep dust at children so they would go to bed at night which is just as weird as it sounds. Then after the stop motion segment the show would carry on. Although the show was for the most part really sweet and enjoyable and to this day is my favorite “julekalender”, it does have its share of moments that unsettled me as a little kid. I still watch it every December because of the nostalgia and Christmas spirit, but I always remember back to that first time I watched it and hid behind the chair as the man in the tv talked to me and laugh because now I just find the memory funny.

It’s definitely the eyes, if they were bigger and didn’t appear to glow in the dark I feel like it would help

Lions and Bears are terrifying but in real life they look like something from a legend and Lions and Bears are majestic but dangerous creatures

@@Lee-cr6xb it's probably to do with how horror films often like to take things associated with childhood- clowns and dolls, for example- and subvert the attitude we had towards them. Well, it's that and if you stop to overthink any children's show, you'll realize very quickly that none of it makes sense, but it was never meant to. The target audience are at an age where most of them don't have any sense of object permanence.

I remember ONLY watching this show ONCE because my dad refused to rent a VHS copy of Pokemon from Blockbuster when I was 5 because the Pokemon saying their names was "too stupid." He proceeded to rent the Teletubbies for me because THAT was smart. Probably the biggest dissapointment of my life

The scream laugh of the OG baby sun used to scare me and give me nightmares as a kid.

Being the target audience back then, I say those ships where indeed scary. Toddlers actually do enjoy watching the whole thing all over again, that’s their thing, repeating stuff over and over. I heard that they destroyed the original hill and created that pond because people kept invading the area to take pictures and the owner wasn’t happy about it.

I had completely forgotten about the ships until he showed a clip and it immediately triggered something in my brain. They were very ominous. The way the grassy hills just suddenly get flooded and the ships turn up out of nowhere silently from the low angle is just uncanny. Then they just sail about unnaturally for a couple of minutes and disappear off frame. All just so weird.

I still remember it fondly i was 6 years old and couldn't sleep because of this i was seeing his head on my window watching me.

This feels like a fever dream...

Somehow, them rolling around on skates makes them seem even more like a terrifying fever dream.

I vividly remember being terrified of this as a toddler. The bear especially, it was the arms. I had nightmares about it. I loved the cgi dancing teddy though, that was my favourite.

I had nightmares for MONTHS about the lion! Probably the worst fear I've had in my life, couldn't get its creepy face and eyes out of my 3 year old mind xD

Me too omg. The eyes and the arms, the stare, the fact that the voice didn't seem to be actually coming from either animal... I was pretty freaked by the cgi bear too. I feel weird and anxious watching it back now 👀

I think it’s crazy that I actually remember this segment from when I was a baby/ very young child. I remember hardly anything from that show, I was so young. But as soon as I saw the thumbnail a deep memory was unlocked. I remember it so vividly. It was unsettling and it still is. I am German tho but I guess the German dub was just as unsettling.

Yeah I also remember this! Though I also do remember one episode where they were watching a video about the color pink and they kept repeating the word "pink", which I always wanted to rewatch (might have been a clue to my homosexuality though lol)

All the episodes listed here were my favorite as a kid, not freaky then and not freaky now

Teletubbies was literally my favorite show when I was a toddler. The dancing CGI bear and the 3 boats actually did scare me though. This video brought back a lot of forgotten memories.

this actually makes me feel so relieved im not the only one who was scared af of this segment as a toddler!! I deadass had nightmares of the bear and yes i would run away from the tv any time this came on!! I never knew until now how many other kids were like me and that this got so blown up they made this episode and segment banned! crazy how they put this in a kids show XD

Bruuuuh, I could remember nothing of this show, but as soon as I heard that "I'm the bear, I'm the bear" some sort of suppressed memory came back reminding me how terrified I was when I saw that as a kid

I remember the boats and that scared the shit out of me for some reason

I found the way the dancing bear’s UFO’s doors open and close super satisfiying. The sound that played at the end of the three ships scene right before the Magic Windmill was shown scared me.

I remember watching this episode. It's one of the only episodes I remember because I cried when I saw it.
