As always, thank you for the content and your service! I've been using those Zippo Typhoon matches for some time, and they blow other "stormproof" matches out of the water...no contest. I cut them down and put them in a smaller stormproof match container, then used the Typhoon match holder for fat wood and vaseline cotton balls. Thanks again Stoker!💪🏽🇺🇲🤘🏽

I don’t smoke, but I NEVER leave the house without a Zippo in my pocket… they remind me of both of my grandpas and all my uncles, long summer days, bonfires… i have several that have been handed down to me over the years, all lined up on my dresser. My wife bought me a vintage brass one a few years back and it’s lit every campfire, every leaf pile, every candle since. Hopefully someday it will go in my grandsons pocket. Anyone who’s ever carried a Zippo knows they aren’t “emergency” lighters, they require lots of maintenance, keeping them fueled, keeping the wick trimmed and replacing the flint, to me that’s part of the coolness, it’s a ceremony, almost a liturgy… getting it ready for the day, lighting it up, snapping it shut and dropping all the memories into my pocket.

Great video! I've carried my grandfathers Zippo for years. In my fire kit, a Gerber strikeforce kit with the accompanying tinder blocks, magnesium shavings, and a spare ferro rod with ceramic striker. Separate from that I'll carry potassium permanganate and glycerin for a delayed fire starter if i need to prep it. (Glycerin (or variant) is in antifreeze, so add a little powder to a puddle of antifreeze which is always easy to find in a vehicle.)

I make my own storm proof matches. Grab some 2 ply toilet paper or the really cheap 1 ply paper. Separate the toilet paper if it’s 2 ply, tear or cut the paper into the length of the match. Leave enough to hold on to the match. Begin to tightly wrap the toilet paper around the match. When you have that done grab some wax and melt it. Dip the matches in n the wax. Allow the matches to dry completely. Once that is finished pick some of the wax off the match head so it will strike better or leave it until your ready to use.

Thank you for this video. You offered great reviews of Zippo products. (I have always trusted Zippo lighters and Case knives.) The items you demoed look like really good stuff and will need to find their way into my fire kit. A classic Zippo with a good load of fluid and a one-inch-long piece of bicycle innertube placed so as to seal the lid will serve you well. I carry a 30-minute road flare in my fire kit. It will thaw out numb fingers and dry out small kindling if it is not too wet. The flare is perfect in those situations where one needs a fire immediately and may be suffering from hand injuries and/or the early stages of hypothermia. One can never have too many ways to make a fire. Again, thank you for this video.

Zippo thigh burns are real, they make a good fluid/flint carrier, but butane inserts don't leak or evap fuel. Must be maintained though esp. torch styles. I wouldnt carry butane for decades till i figured out how to keep running. I still carry 2 to have 1. Odor lower w butane too.

I'm still on the fence about matches that have to be struck on a particular striker. Th "strike on box" type. They may be safer to carry, but they're unreliable when their striking surface gets wet. (Happened at the last of this video). A strike anywhere version of the Typhoon match would be wonderful. That's my only beef with the Zippo system. Zippo, as always, has us covered. Great Video. Love the outro!

That's a very solid Ferro Rod, looks like a very solid line of products there, sweet! I used to carry a Zippo lighter and have a few in a collection, but they just suck up lighter fluid, Bic lighters last way longer in the general use sense without having to carry extra fluid to refill a Zippo. Always gotta have multiple forms of firestarting though, that should be a common sense SOP.

I’d say ZIPPO has certainly stepped up their game! There may long be a market for the traditional zippo lighter…nostalgia or something, but with folks getting smart about smoking (myself included after 46 years of smoking) and quitting the cancer/COPD sticks, zippo needed a market audience…and the no doubt found them cause I’m searching them out right now for me and, some birthday and Christmas gifts!! Very cool episode!! Sharing this out!

I don't smoke except tires. Yet, I love my Zippo. Made in Pennsylvania. What could be more American than a 1911, a Garand, and a Zippo? They traveled together with our Greatest Generation. I'm sure every guy over 40 knows that classic Zippo sound. Almost like and endblock on ejection. When I got serious about kit, I put my Zippo in it. A month later I learned why Pop Pop had me fill his so frequently. I thought it was caused he went through a carton a week. I was wrong. So the Zippo left my kit, but stays in my heart forever. BTW, the greatest generation used AV gas frequently. For some reason I can hear my Mama saying don't play with lighters and gas, LOL....

I have used the zippo fire starter line shown here and found that... I love the zippo matches with the case and consider it the best match set-up in the world. The fero rod set is a good design and works great. I love the old zippo lighter and own a couple of them. But I don't care for the zippo fire kit with the tinder tabs. It is not a matter of quality, and the tinder is good, I just hate the little "empty lighter style" ignition.

I like the flint striker with the fire starter pads with the center hole. My son lost an arm so he’s always looking for ways to make two handed tasks simpler, and the striker will do that. I also grabbed a 10 pack of extra tinder rolls. It holds 5 which he’ll now have two refills for. Picked up a couple of the Epiphany Outdoor Gear Pocket Bellows you’ve got in your Amazon store as well. Yea, I could find natural stuff but, why waste time hunting when the Epiphany Outdoor Gear Pocket Bellows racks in at 3 1/2” collapsed and .08 of an ounce! Fits nicely in the fire kit at 15 bucks AND a Nam vet owned and operated business! Your store could get me in a lot of trouble brother!!😎👊🏻🇺🇸

I don’t have the Zippo ferro rod, but I do have the other two. They are outstanding pieces of kit. I keep extra flints in the sparking fire kit, and the Zippo matches are even more robust than the UCO Titan Matches (imho). I put a 3/16”X2 1/2” ferro rod in the match container because I’m always thinking of longevity if I get stuck out longer than planned. I carried a Zippo lighter way back in the day, but got tired of the fluid leaking out in my trousers. I can’t remember ever carrying a lighter into the wilderness. I never had a need for one. I do have a Numyth Tohill lighter that I bought at the BLADE Show in 2015. But it lives in an emergency kit in Mumma Bear’s pack. Even after being unopened for a year, it lights right up. I would like to see Zippo make a tradition lighter that seals tight when closed. I might just buy one of those. Semper Fi 🇺🇸

Zippo is the worst lighter for survival lol, You forget you have one in your pocket while in fresh water crossing, you will never forget the chemical burn 🔥 near your crotch, this is the main reason, people in the know put a ranger band around the opening, everything in this video is garbage except the ferro rod...Why?...everything there will fail in salt water except the ferro rod, the ferro may get some cavities, but will still work, a bic won't last one second in salt water.
