All the people criticizing the video for not just carrying a lighter, BUT.. Ferro rod & striker can come right out of water and work, function at 50 below 0, and I’m sure can be taken on an airplane without any suspicious looks…. Plus, it’s just plain FUN and satisfying to know how to use these !!

Keep in mind that alot of people live off the grid in the middle of nowhere. Ferro rods and magnesium bars are a good backup for when your lighters run out of fuel and you won't be back in town anytime soon.

Nice one Chris. Enjoyed looking at your collection of firesteel. One thing I've found is that the bigger firesteel are easier for kids to handle and learn with. You showed a good selection. The clear tubes are an excellent idea and one I'll be adding to my firekit. I'm curious to see if they'll be suitable for charcloth as it's a really cheap form of tinder for me along with Sisal (jute twine) processed into its individual strands in another tube.

I love your suggestions, and I've tried a few of what you mentioned, and they are great. One of my favorites wasn't on the list, so I'm excited to tell you. The company Schrade has amazing Ferro rods I initially was testing out there knives and axes, but most of them come with a rod, and I was amazed how well they worked. Its more of a soft one but last a long time and throws some big sparks. I highly recommend you check them out if you haven't already. My favorite are the ones that come with there axes, but they are all the same, just different in size. :)

Always good to have a lighter or two, but redundant redundancies are the name of the game.

It is a cool idea indeed! There is a product called Keep2 Go tubes that ive used for different things, including to keep the Fiberlight stuff that Chris had in this video. Same concept he was saying about keeping it waterproof and secure, but they have a loop on the cap, so u could even use the lanyard to carry it around ur neck.
