I mean, everyone was kinda doing that at the time: Trisha Paytas, Liza Koshy, David Dobrik, Jerry Seinfeld, Jeffree Star, Tana Mogeou, Especially with all these story times and “relatable content,” that was popular at the time. It wasn’t right at the time but we didn’t develop these morals until later. Slavery was never okay, never in a million years is it okay. But no one did anything at the time and wasn’t considered and abolished till later. All these people still have platforms because they stopped making that content. Becoming an adult is knowing that you can’t blame everything on your childhood trauma. Once you’re aware of the trauma you went through as a kid you’re aware of your actions. The willow situation, the cat, the way he would act talk in front of his cousin I believe she was is strange. I hope no adoption agency allows him to become a parent. It’s a huge red flag. 100% and as soon as your adult and can recognize your trauma/problematic actions it’s your responsibility to deal with it and stop that behavior. He was an adult when he did most of these horrible things and I guarantee he knew how disgusting/harmful his actions were, he just didn’t care and still doesn’t. To me it’s insane how he knows what he’s done and is doing but chooses to ignore it and people are STILL letting him get away with it. He doesn’t deserve his platform but if he’s going to make the decision to keep it, he should AT LEAST admit fault/genuine guilt and try to do something to benefit the world.

I laughed so much when he said he was grateful he got cancelled. That dramatic pause was so calculated it is painful. And, I'm sorry, you can't just casually say you did something due to "childhood trauma" and expect this sweeps everything under the rug. This delegitimises the trauma you have caused people, Shane, as well as survivors of childhood trauma. There are plenty of people out there with childhood trauma who haven't done or said a fifth of the horrible things you have. It isn't an excuse for terrible things you've done. Ever. You seek therapy. You apologise. But it isn't an excuse. He's just trying to slime his way back in and is trying to spun his cancellation into a positive story about his trauma and survival so people will a) feel like they can't call him on what he's done, b) feel bad for him, and c) sweep it under the rug so he can go back to being on top again. It's gross.

You were just a kid who didn't know better. This is why Shane is terrible. He mass groomed and manipulated thousands of kids into believing what he did was ok or normal. No adult should have been talking to you about anal. No adult should be doing blackface at you and saying its ok. No adult should have been having sexual inside jokes with you. That's what he did. He knew his fans were kids and decided the best thing to do with those kids is tell rape jokes and racist jokes. You don't come back from that. He knew what he was doing. He was in his 20s. The illusion that he was yiung and dumb is because he did all of his skits in a high school setting to ATTRACT MINORS. He was a whole ass grown man. He knew.

tbh Shane’s apology in 2020 (and anybody who apologized on their racist past) still irks me bc a lot of the KZreadrs who were apologizing started to do it when BLM was gaining traction. I know I can’t be personally offended from what Shane and others did but the fact that Shane and others waited till that moment to put out an apology of sorts is when it irked me. If a KZreadr has had a racist past they shouldn’t wait to address it. Idk it just seems fishy to me

Back in his beauty “influencer” era I sat with my cart ready and managed to get the big conspiracy palette for $50 as soon as it dropped and immediately sold out. I had it for a few months and never used it. One day I had an inkling to sell it and it went for $120. The whole big cancellation happened maybe a week later and I’d have never got that much as soon as that happened. It was a crazy time period.

unpopular opinion I guess but why is the idea of CANCELLING a HUMAN BEING so accepted? real life people do terrible things sometimes and that doesn’t mean that they aren’t worthy of redemption. A lot of y’all are weird to be speaking on the character of someone that doesn’t know you and that you’ve only had access to through a screen. Shane acknowledges his mistakes and is moving on with his life and even while I don’t support him, I can at least respect that. If you don’t support him then fine but let’s stop this idea of trying to get people cancelled

The whole thing with him blaming his actions on childhood trauma really irks me. There are so many people, including me, who have had childhood trauma, but as an adult you have to learn to grow and learn from those past experiences. You decide how you want to live your life.

I thought he made his apology video because it was like, right after Jenna’s and her stepping away from KZread (we love you Jenna, and hope you’re leisuring with your plants you ~35 year old lady~ 💜) and Shane was like “oh, she got a great review, I’ll do that!” Cut to Shane saying he saw others making videos about it, and he’s def talking about Jenna. And it’s like. Jenna is a Queen, and you’re a peasant. She is a wholesome person who actually cares, and means what she says. And you make a joke about everything, say your sorry for your past, but still kept those videos up to profit off them…. Like, can Shane leave the internet already? K, thanks

I don't care about either of these people, I'm not a Ryland apologist, I just think it would suck to be in that situation

people are fucking dumb, they just jump on the cancel bandwagon whenever they see it trending on social media. These are the same people who weren’t even born when Shane made these “racist” skits. Back in the late 2000’s/ early 2010’s there was no such thing as needing to be politically correct to please the few who would get offended by it. KZread was full of content like this, not to say racism is ok of course. People need to stop thinking a certain way just because they’re told to by the media, form your own opinion.

@@HG-yy3cq yeah THIS video. He gets a ton of positive comments on his own videos. He’s entertaining and he’s already apologized any times. All drama channels do is bring up old dried up tea and rehash the same thing over and over again for money and it’s a great strategy because that’s what every blog entertainment and news site does for money. This ain’t anything new. Shane isn’t going anywhere. Jeffree isn’t going anywhere. Trisha isn’t going anywhere. And even though I dislike James personally, he ain’t going anywhere either. They’re all entertaining people and as much as people who watch TeaSpill’s video want them “canceled,” they’re names are still brought up which gives them attention. Thats how I even discovered his name in the first place by watching these videos. And no I don’t care about his past. He’s apologized, and moved on from it. I clearly see that change in his videos now. Move on. If you truly want him gone, ignore him like the plague.

The "Childhood Trauma" excuse affords a refuge and escape from the pangs of regret. The offense is easily thrown upon the back of someone else. Shane has failed to see the depth of his actions. The blame, and the deeds, are wholly his to bear. "Childhood trauma" had no share in it. Human responsibility cannot thus be avoided.
