Water, grease, oils and multi vitamins have been a game changer for me....I big chopped 2 years ago and had to learn how to maintain moisture in this 4c hair. In the past it grew but would break, changing my routine by keeping it simple helped me keep what grew...the oldest part of my hair. Went from 1 inch of hair to it now hanging to my collar bone, the shrinkage is real lol but so proud of myself for hanging in there. My wash routine is quick and weekly moisturizing routine has become so easy. My family is shocked at my hair growth, how healthy, thick and pretty it is🌹

Hmmmm, an interesting perspective but the scalp is skin. If the skin on your face and body can react positively to active ingredients, I don’t see a problem with infused oils and other well infused topical treatments, for the scalp. The studies are limited but anecdotal reports can’t be total fluff and there are some studies to support the efficacy of certain oils and infusions. The scalp is even more permeable than skin on the body and our skin can already absorb nutrients, topically. To be fair though, Dr. Dre didn’t say oils don’t grow hair. She said the research is limited… therefore there is room for those studies to prove that oil does indeed, bolster hair growth. These accomplished black derms also didn’t say anything negative about oils… I personally don’t like castor oil but I’ve seen a lot of success with other oils and potent infusions. Lol this is a novel but I don’t think that what they are saying opposes the possibility that certain oils and infusions are actually beneficial (though many other factors go into healthy hair and a healthy body). As medical professionals, they may believe in these things more than they are letting on but they can’t actually back anything that doesn’t have a solid study behind it (I’m pretty sure it’s not ethical in medicine). I’m sure the next decade will reveal a lot about the benefits of oils.

Without spending a really long time on this reply... Firstly facial oils are unnecessary as everything you need for your face can be found in well formulated moisturizers (that may contain oils) and serums with active ingredients (acids, extracts, antioxidants). Secondly, oils on the face or elsewhere don't grow the hair faster than normal... And yes...scalp is skin, you are correct but unlike facial skin there are not thousands of hair follicles that produce sebum and are easily clogged. This is a KEY difference. The biggest irony is that people will say "scalp is skin" to justify oil use but not see the connection regards more frequent washing 🤔

  • @EfikZara

    @EfikZara

    2 жыл бұрын

@@sart1348 I literally said oils and potent infusions; and highlighted that actives work on the skin so why won’t oils with potent actives and antioxidants also work well on the scalp? That aside, there are oils that are noncomedogenic and effective emollients for the skin… if your scalp is excessively dry or you have issues keeping moisture in, there’s nothing wrong with using an oil or even a petrolatum based product. But do y’all do ANY research? The scalp is even more permeable than the skin on the face… this is a fact and as a result certain actives naturally found in oils and added via infusions MAY have an effect on the rate of hair growth… the same way vitamin A has an effect on cell turnover rate, or vitamin C protects against free radicals and brightens the skin, or Lactic acid brightens skin and loosens dead skin cells, or licorice root extract that also brightens skin… et cetera et cetera. Who says someone can’t wash their hair frequently? If their scalp is like mine then more consistent washing is definitely great for reintroducing moisture (I also spritz my scalp with hair tea). I personally keep my hair in extension-free single braids so I can treat my naturally dry/sensitive scalp. (The skin on my face is also very sensitive so the attention is not so different). I also live in a VERY dry environment so oils are a friend. A lot of people like to push narratives or selectively read things they don’t agree with so they can respond. If you don’t want to use oil, that’s good and dandy, but everyone is different. There are people that naturally produce a lot of sebum, there are others that produce a moderate amount, and others that produce very little and are more prone to dry skin. Oils are not harmful if used correctly, and I choose to leave the door open to the very HIGH probability that certain oils do bolster hair growth. Ayurveda and other ancient hair practices would not abound if they were farcical and there are a few studies that support oil + hair growth. Long story short… y’all should read to comprehend, watch to comprehend, and do further research because nothing these doctors said is in opposition of oils and hair growth; they are merely highlighting that more controlled studies need to be done for them to say otherwise (which as medical practitioners, is responsible). Edit: I actually don’t have to wash my hair very frequently, my scalp is soft and healthy, and my scalp never itches (at this point) though I can wash my hair frequently if I want to so your correlation is fallible 🙄🥴

Traction alopecia causes hair loss in 1/3 black women. It is the leading cause of hair loss. We can suffer from the traction we experienced in childhood. We need to learn that our hair does not need to be beaten into submission; it is to be cherished and nurtured. And let's not damage our children's follicles before they are even grown.

Agreed. Oils by itself don't magically make the hair grow. Most of us who invested money to buy our pricey oils, and time to select, mix, and use our oils, also did this at a time when we decided to be more *intentional* with our hair. Oiling is often combined with other things like more consistent routines, lower manipulation and scalp massages, which do promote hair growth. Introducing 'hair growth' oils may just have been the tool we needed at the time to get us going on our healthy hair routines... But we probably didn't need it anyway.

Im confused by people saying oils help hair growth. Is hair growth not controlled by cell division and the phases of a cell cycle. When people say that they can speed up hair growth rate, its like saying they are editing the genome of the cell and bypassing cell growth check points. Like, how does applying something to your scalp control something thats encoded in your dna. Increasing things like blood flow can work if those cells are deficient in oxygen to make the cell function as it SHOULD (which is genetically predetermined) but not making it function at 125%. People saying their topical oil can change the life cycle of a cell should really contact cancer research about this unchecked cell growth that is causing 5 inches in a month. Yeah okay lol. I mean sure you can decrease the growth rate of a cell by starving it what it needs, then replenishing those needs will make the cells function as they are designed, not faster or more. This comment is not discussing length retension. I am talking about from the root.

I've had great growth and retention using ayurvedic oils and have been able to reach new hair milestones since using oils. It’s ironic when we think about it, black women who happen to have the longest hair length here in KZread, they use OILS SPORADICALLY 🙃😶🤣 same in Africa, women and girls at the village they don’t use chemically hair products instead they use oils, butter like Shea or cacao butter or butter from milk, they do it for centuries their scalp don’t suffer from alopecia, eczema or hair falling because there isn’t endocrine disrupters which comes with hair products‼️🤷🏾‍♀️ We need to provide hair care that it’s compatible with our hair need, dry hair need more oils but oily hair don’t; so no need to use dry hair care regimen when you already have oily hair and vice versa.

Thank you for this video. If oils worked the way people trying to sell them professed then we all could have long hair right? People are even in the comments saying oils gave them more than 3 times the average growth a month 🤦🏽‍♀️ the research does NOT back up the claims. I just wish that we would take the money, time and effort and spend it on healthy nutrient-dense foods, supplements (like collagen) that are proven to benefit hair skin and nails, exercise (highly underestimated in how much BLOOD FLOW it brings to the scalp) and scalp massage. And we need to STOP looking to East and South Asian women for inspiration. Those women on average have longer anagen phases and highly resilient follicles due to shape. Their hair would grow to long lengths regardless of their Ayurvedic methods...and it's exactly why their descendants around the world who DON'T do it still have long luscious hair (many of whom I grew up with). White women do NONE of this and their hair grows long... why aren't we connecting the dots 🤦🏽‍♀️ There are some deep rooted psychologies of black women in particular being exploited knowingly and unknowingly by companies... getting us to empty our pockets, unnecessarily chasing something we don't need and could just as easily walk to.

In all seriousness though I learned something new today! Idk why it has never crossed my mind that perhaps one could see some sort of results INGESTING oils versus topical application. BUT for the people applying oils topically and ‘seeing results’ makes me think of the idea of nature versus nurture and I think that people are so convinced that hair growth oils work because by the time they’ve reached the point to want to try one, they are actually so focused on their hair and are actually taking care of their hair properly like they should have been all along because they want to see results. Is it the oil causing the growth or people taking their time to massage their scalp that is stimulating the hair growth? 🤔

All I say is do what is best for you and your hair. Do what makes your hair happy. Everybody's hair and scalp is different. People have said this a thousand times but it is the absolute truth. Don't follow something because everyone is saying it. Some people's hair might flourish without raw oils but some people's hair might not flourish without raw oils either. This is why we all have different skin care routines, some of us have combination skin or dry skin or oily skin and we tailor our skin care to fit our skin type and needs. You can't expect someone with dry skin to use the routine of someone with oily skin. That wouldn't work. What their skin needs would not be met. That is how I see hair too, each person's hair flourishes when they have found what works specifically for them and that might not be routine or technique that everyone is telling you to do. Just be free to make the right choice for yourself and hair. I myself will be still using oils because I believe it works for me.

I think a better analogy would be that you can’t expect someone with oily hair to use the routine of someone with dry hair. Comparing skin and hair is like apples to oranges. Everyone’s hair is different, yes, but everyone’s hair also follows the same rules. Hair growth is literally biological and no oil is growing to change how your cells work. If it did, we would all have crazy long hair

@@prettypinkprince People have dry hair or dry scalps and people can have oily hair or oily scalps. So it is not that far from each other. Because the core of what I was saying is that each person can't use another person routine that does not match their need or type of situation. So having the analogy specifically to hair does not mean it's a better analogy because it's intrinsically saying the same thing. We have to find the routine that matches our hair and what our hair likes. They thing is they are people who do have crazy long hair because of oil. In a lot of cultures people do use oils and their hair is actually very long.

The problem of any treatment either medical or for hair growth is that it works from body to body from organism to organism it did not work for you but it might work for someone else. I see many people loving coconut oil but for my hair it is a no . But olive oil it works for me and might not work for someone else. It is the same with rice water I saw many people on KZread saying that rice water worked on their hair but then appeared this one KZreadr saying "guys the water rice does not work for me I tried to use it and my hair just got broken " and maybe she had and some protein intolerance. So I have nothing wrong with your opinion but maybe you should say "oils don't work for me" because many of us tried something that workd for us and I hope you find something that works for you my sister ❣

As someone who suffered from alopecia areata I can confirm that my hair grew back not only by using minoxidil that was prescribed by my dermatologist but by changing my diet, exercising regularly and minding my business. My hairloss began after I had my daughter, the stress of adjusting to motherhood, being a wife and adjusting to a new job took a toll on my health and ultimately my scalp/hair. The moment I realized that I'm not just a mom, a wife, my job, or a daughter I started to prioritize myself and goodness my hair grew back thicker and better than I've ever seen it.. I hope all my sisters and brothers will realize that there is no magic product that will help you grow your hair, all you need to do is take care of your health, be patient and results will come also stop watching videos on people proclaiming their hair grew because of some "special sauce" 🙄it does not exist. Jenn - A LOT of people are going to be maaaaaaad at you you this!!!!😂😳 The doctor lady raised a GOOD point in the begining that I've been trying to tell people. You can't just go to your local food store, pick up an oil and think you're going to have the same benefits. Same goes for your cosmetic oils. I work in the industry, you guys have no idea how much those oils are processed and bleached. They do this to increase shelf life, and decrease odor (oils smell over time, some a very short period of time). If you REALLY want the benefits of your oils and essential oils. You have to obtain pharmaceutical grade form of it (which is NOT in your cosmetics product...pharmaceutical grade is damn near triple the price of cosmetic grade...food grade is even cheaper...so a lot of cosmetic products use food grade oils/essential oils) or take it in pill form or eat it; I'm guess consumption is always better over pill form???

If there is no scientific evidence to link it to hair growth that's fair and fine. Oils have improved the health of my hair which have improved my length retention. I am personally only using oils and water at the moment. Healthwise the majority of people in Africa automatically have a healthy lifestyle because of the type of the food we eat, so I can not attribute stagnation in hair growth to diet in the past. Lack of haircare and using store bought products that do not contain natural ingredients attributed to the stagnant hair growth in my case. I started caring for my hair in August using oils and water (rice water here and there... I hate the smell 😅)I have noticed a huge difference as compared to my previous bad habits (at the time I thought they were good) My current oils are EVOO, Castor and coconut. I can't wait to see my progress in Aug 2022. My hair has never been thicker, darker and as long as it is at this stage and I attribute it to water, oils and protective styling

Also, you don’t have to have pharmaceutical grade oil to see results; thats another gimmick; you can check efficacy or produce your own oil from the plant. Folks were saying Walmart supplements weren’t the best when a study was done it was shown to be as effective as some of the most expensive. Y’all just have to learn to fact check. Remember sometimes….we’ll in many cases it can take a while…..multiple test & trials to get to the root cause. You have to be patient with yourself throughout the process.

This was a very thorough insight into the need for a holistic approach to beauty and hair. I will reiterate for the benefit of some viewers some ‘hair growth oils’ can work. Well formulated ones that is. From the formulation standpoint, the efficacy of a homemade oil and herb mix and a laboratory tested one will have a world of difference. When formulating, we use ingredients that have been analysed and certified to contain the needed percentage of active ingredient. For instance, liquorice extract can have brightening effects on the skin. But you can’t just grind up some liquorice root and think it’s a brightener. You’ll have to get an extract that has been analysed and certified to contain the proper amount of active ingredient, formulate with it and then test the efficacy. But most companies these days just throw in a few herbs and slap a label on it, just for the money. So look out for companies that give info on the efficacy of their products on their website and have certificates of analysis (COA) to back it up.

I've retained around 4.5 inches in 2021 and I think it's because my detangling and blowdrying techniques are not great yet. I'm using my oil stock on my skin or against frizz when I'm taking down a rods set and I don't plan to repurchase them as haircare essentials. There's nothing to lose by just trying it for a few weeks , if not oiling your scalp for 2-4 weeks is all it takes to damage your hair, maybe your hair is not as healthy as you want to believe 😉

I’m not going to say which brand but I recently saw an IG post from a popular brand stating that #1 we shouldn’t wash our hair with shampoo on a weekly basis but to do so every other week and co-wash instead (yikes) 😬. This is also a brand that has a hair growth oil and a hair butter (that has shea butter in the first 5 ingredients)…so if they’re telling folks not only to not shampoo on a weekly basis but I’m sure they will encourage the use of their oil and butter based products…i feel for any customer of theirs who listens to that advice and then does so in conjunction with using their recommended hair products. 🥴

I need to ask a question, and it may seem as if I'm being disingenuous, but I really would like some input - - can someone explain to me what is the point of protective styling if the person wearing them does them constantly, and never (or rarely) wearing their own hair. In other words, what exactly is being protected and for what reason if one never opts to reveal and wear their natural hair? I've known so many women who install one protective style after another - put in, take down, wash and reinstall, wherein there is no time spent enjoying their natural hair. Also, if a woman opts to do that, and she most definitely is entitled to do so, why not shave your head or cut one's hair very low in order to have the ideal foundation upon which those protective styles are more easily installed without the risk of damage? If you frequently wearing protective styles, then why isn't their hair growing. Hair is optimally growing when not manipulated, right?

Also about 5 months through my big chop stage . I started getting braids especially for the winter months , The point was to keep my hair away so I’m not twirling it around and combing it every single day and it worked for me especially in those stages where it was hard to really do twists or cornrow my hair … Also you have to understand, Natural hair isn’t really always accepted by everyone and to some ‘protective styles on the reg is their way to blend in .

I know to do research they need money but I do not understand why for exemple castor oil they do not have more research same for the other oils ... brief Younger, I lost my front hair because I use relaxer and bleach at the same time (i know bad idea 😬) brief I bought a french brand to oil my scalp the main ingrédient are black castor oil and my hair go back. But recenthly I buy it again and now I have more knowledge and plus I read the ingrédients I read it has Rosemary in it...so your video come in good time for me

But the problem is the regulation of said products. What the problem is companies being allowed to used terminology such as “hair growth oils”. I also have seen biotin and oil products marketed with labels stating “scientifically proven”. So I agree they are lying to us to capitalize off of us.

I work in the industry. 15 years of being a chemist of personal care products. You're right, in the US companies can get away with using these terms; will not fly in Europe and Asia!!! If you're wondering about the FDA...they only check cosmetics with drug claims like sunscreens and hand sanitizer. All else they don't care about. The way around this is buying your products from bigger corporations like Unilever, Coty, Estee Lauder, P&G, etc. They fact check each other's claims, and if anything is out of line, they will take each other to court and sue. Law suits are expensive and means products being pulled off of shelves so they make sure their claims have clinical/consumer test attached to them. That's why you don't see crazy claims from big companies like these. These companies have whole departments for fact checking. When you buy from these small niche companies, they are free to make whatever crazy claim they want. The big companies aren't checking them because they aren't making enough money to cut into their profit.

i believe the commercial oils are not good because if you know the brand (Difeel) for example they have almond oil if you look at the ingredients they have so much other stuff in the oil. I do believe if you make your own oil you will have better success. I use diy ginger and Rosemary oil and too me it works well I am seeing growth. Olive oil works good for my hair as well. i noticed that before I knew about the natural hair care. not every oil is for everyone, you have to know what works for you.

I use atleast 3 different ones twice a week for a scalp massage/seal after spraying my scalp with aloe or fenugreek water. Thank you 😊 I agree wholeheartedly, this video like many others similar to this they immensely generalised everything to the point of nauseous, they take their anecdotal experience as a generalisation matter trying to make it a fact! It’s ironic when we think about it, black women who happen to have the longest hair length here in KZread, they use OILS SPORADICALLY 🙃😶🤣 same in Africa, women and girls at the village they don’t use chemically hair products instead they use oils, butter like Shea or cacao butter or butter from milk, they do it for centuries their scalp don’t suffer from alopecia, eczema or hair falling because there isn’t endocrine disrupters which comes with hair products‼️🤷🏾‍♀️

I do believe that hair growth is internal however a major part of seeing growth is Length retention so oils might not grow hair but the help with creating slip smoothing the cuticles protecting the hair which lessens breakage increases length retention and at the end of the day we feel like I used this oil and it grew my hair

I've been following in your footsteps for the past five years. I've stopped using oils on my scalp and grooming techniques. Claiming that oils are a lie. My hair was actually booming and growing like crazy and healthier than ever before in the care and then suddenly it started to break and break when I wanted to go back to the care it became unresponsive. And dry like a desert, it has stopped growing for three years, and no treatment has worked for me in ending the splitting and roughness, such as electric wires. Please stop this. Otherwise, the consequences will be dire.
