I have been on Berberine, NAC, Quercetin, Zinc, Vitamn D and K2, V, C Magnesium Multi, etc, etc. for 20 years. Have been into Naturopathy since my early 20s now 76, no pharmaceuticals ever, no jabs, nothing, I am so happy that I go here in good health, what happens next, does not matter. I had a long healthy run. The body is a magnificent machine, look after it and it responds.

Not exactly true. There is TONS of literature supporting the use of inositol for insulin sensitivity and concluding it may be useful for PCOS, diabetes, and weight loss. My doc and endo both were thrilled to see what it did for my blood glucose levels (and, more recently, my A1c) after I dove into the literature on it and then began taking it. I'm only just now beginning to look into berberine as I need additional help with my sugar but am allergic to metformin, but I'm betting if you dig hard enough, you'll find enough to help you and your docs decide for or against it.

I tried to lower my HbA1C last year by losing weight and cutting out bread. I brought it down from 5.7 to 5.3. Then a few months later I heard about Berberine and started taking two capsules daily as recommended on the bottle. A few months later I had an HbA1C of 5.4 and felt sluggish and dizzy. I had an abnormal EKG for a pre surgery work up. That night I stopped taking Berberine and my EKG and symptoms cleared up before my follow up cardiology appointment. My surgery and recovery went well. About 60 days after surgery I began taking Berberine again and after about six weeks had an arrhythmia triggered by a cold drink followed by sustained palpitations and irregular heartbeats. I called cardiology and they sent me an event monitor patch to wear for a week. I sent it back and am awaiting feedback. About a week ago I remembered that I was taking Berberine and stopped. Since then my symptoms have lessened. I take Beta Blockers as a preventative medicine due to a prolonged QT interval. Turns out beta blockers and Berberine don't go well together. The Berberine enhances the effects of the drug and its side effects. That explains the palpitations and arrhythmia. Be careful with Berberine if you take any drug processed through the liver especially Beta Blockers or statins.

They always say "consult your doctor" but doctors should really be diving into a patients lifestyle/diet. People put garbage in their bodies and then become diabetic and just take that insulin shot but don't make diet and lifestyle changes. An alcoholic or drug addict have to stop alcohol and drugs to be successful, they can't have cheat days and still be successful. There must be more education about the junk that is in our foods. I educate myself because doctors will just write prescriptions that could have side affects and cause other problems. They won't take time to talk about the root cause.

The good doctor was diligent in mentioning the small sample size and lack of data on Berberine. However, the fact that it is a natural substance that has been in use for a couple of thousand years is probably more of a recommendation than data based scientists like to acknowledge. There is a study available on the website of the Harvard Board of Ethics showing that prescription drugs are the 5th leading cause of death in the USA. Most pharmaceuticals have damaging side effects. Here we have a natural substance that has been in use for thousands of years and hasn't gotten a reputation for harm in all that time. I have had fantastic results from years of using Goldenseal, a berberine containing herbal medicine, for infections and stopping canker sores. Now that I know it does much more, I will take four or five capsules a week instead of 2 or 3 a day only when I have an infection.

Since being on this amazing little pill I've lost 30 lbs., my a1c went from 6.6 to 5.9!!! and my blood test has no more red flags, even my cholesterol is below the normal rage...I also ask my dr about taking it on the day, he said hed never heard of it, but when I went back in under 3 months, he said wow! I am considered healthy overall & I am 69 years of age. My HbA1c percentage was 4.7% and my lipid & glucose profiles appear quite good as well. I happen to take 400 mg of Berberine per day. This formulation is mixed with a relatively high level of medium chain fatty acids which is another reason why I take this particular product containing berberine. The brand of this product which I have tremendous confidence in is from “Designs For Health “. Their headquarters is located in Suffield, CT. I am a health coach and I have a doctorate in chemistry as a formal training background. The name of this product is: “Berberine-Evail”. I prefer taking berberine with MTC oils or medium chain fatty acids is because of its greater efficiency in mitochondrial metabolism and its anti inflammatory effects as well.

@@meghanstufflebean4139 hi Meghan. I am an RN and there are several reasons why I do not take statins. They are my own observations as a cardiac nurse. I had to stop berberine for a few weeks as o was having a minor procedure and berberine does act as a blood thinner. I did notice that I wasn’t feeling as full after meals. Also I’m not sure berberine should be taken without a break. Still reading mor information. My LDL was 103. Not much difference but totally fine with me. My HDL was 66 and A1c was 5.6. So I keep doing my own thing. As for viral infections, i am rarely sick. Did have Covid last March which wasn’t fun. Got it on vacation after working whole pandemic without contracting it. I do not personally know any T1D. Will go back to berberine in a few weeks.

I think berberine is great for someone who is at a higher risk of developing diabetes and heart disease (like me). I am personally taking berberine with silymarin and also pantethine to lower TC, LDL and TG. I am also taking 1000 mg of flush niacin AFTER my last meal of the day to raise HDL. We will see. I am 56 and although my triglycerides are only slightly above the "normal" range, my TG/HDL ratio is horrible. I think the low HDL is genetic because I am fairly active, and even when I was a runner it was always in the 30's. Also, I am losing the subcutaneous belly fat with portion control and moderate intermittent fasting. I'm trying to get my 5.4 A1c down a bit before I become diabetic like my 76-year-old father. Everyone is an individual and one size does not fit all.

I still take Crestor for my cholesterol levels but am very pleased with the latest blood test results. Had tried Metformin and the results with Berberine are better with no side effects. My medical coverage will provide Metformin at no cost to me but I’m still happy to pay $300 or so annually for Berberine. The fact that Metformin reduces testosterone in men and reduces the effectiveness of my workouts (VO2 Max) is all I needed to hear to select Berberine.

Berberine kills my appetite, that was one of the only things that it really does for me, I noticed I had literally no cravings for food or sugar at all, I took it 15 minutes before lunch each day. It is one of the most potent appetite suppressors I have ever took and I have tried many before. I do intermittent fasting and berberine actually makes fasting incredibly easy because my afternoon snack cravings were eliminated. Berberine needs to be combined with keto or low calorie diet to work, ppl cant just take it and expect to keep eating a high fat, high calorie diet and lose weight.

If the situation is not emergency, I would personally choose life style adjustments and Berberine for first line to try for 3 months, evaluate the result, adjust the dose if needed, if still not improve, combine with other natural medications for another 3 months, evaluate; If improvement have not achieved, then medicine with lower dosage can be added. Life supports life, natural product is better option as our body recognize their natural components within. Medicine doctor will recommend medicine over natural products as they are trained for.

I strongly agree with use or not to use as contemporary medicines are very dangerous to interfere with but are often the problem. Evidence from contemporary practitioners is often itself questionable about natural medicines....given the failure of medical practitioners why wouldn't we want to try the alternative...but with extreme regard to the danger of taking with contemporary medicine....do your research so that you can make the safe choice

You mention the benefits of Berberine on gut health. When I was taking berberine I experienced severe constipation, which I had never experienced in my life before. I read that a derivative of Berberine, Dihydroberberine, provides the benefits of Berberine for glucose metabolism without the GI side effects. So I switched to DHB and my GI issues resolved. But I wonder if DHB provides the many other benefits attributed to Berberine.

I've heard the same thing, that taking the Dihydroberberine is better as it doesn't have the GI issues and is more bioavailable and you take a lower dose.

My question is whether there would be any advantage in only taking berberine on days I "cheat" on my diet. For instance, maybe I'll go out to eat and also have dessert.

I was just "prescribed" Pure Encapsulations Metabolic Xtra by the Institute for Functional Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic. Diagnosed as Type 2 diabetic in September 22. A1C reduced from 7.7 to 5.6 through diet and weight loss. I am allergic to Metformin.

Great video. I'm personally trying the Transformation Protein supplement. They're a trusted brand for me. I absolutely love their protein powder and super greens. Hoping this new product will be helpful as well.
