The True Story of Saint Finan of Lindisfarne | The Last Kingdom
A lot of you may know Finan from the last Kingdom. Here he is presented to us as in Irish warrior who fought alongside Uhtred of Bebbanburg during the 9th and 10th centuries AD. He was enslaved by a Danish slaver where he met Uhtred, after both of them escaped their captivity they became close companions and would fight together for the next several decades.
Much like the real Uhtred who was born over a century after the events of the show, the real Finan was born over 200 years before the events of the Last Kingdom and was known as Finan of Lindisfarne.

Finan was my favorite supporting main character of the show!

Why ,? All he does is make some corny jokes and follow Uthred around all day

@@dansmith3755 I like Finan. He and Uhtred both suffered greatly in season 2 when they were slaves - they now share an unbreakable bond. I don’t think the comedy from Finan is too much, but that’s just me

Was a very good character !!
Finan is such a great Last Kingdom character, so strange to learn he lived so early in Anglo Saxon history
I never realized Finan was based on a real person.

Yeah it’s crazy !
"Him, cant be Uhtred son of Uhtred, I am prettier than this man!" Finan always reminded me of Stephen (irishman) from Braveheart.

I agree wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, it is my opinion, the actor who portrays Finan, in the show was miscast. He resembles nothing that reminds of the Finan in the Uhtred novels.

That’s what I thought exactly; reminds me of Stephen from Braveheart ❤
its difficult for a tv show or movie to be totally accurate but to intruduce historical people and events is definitely a good baseline to get your to understand things . i now know all theses different territories of England because of this show.
Finan is the definition of best buddy
This is epic! I love it so much! Great performance and amazing narration Ollie. Thank you for your efforts

What a excellent video of the life of this extraordinary person of feith . I loved the character he played in the last Kingdom. Thanks for your amazing content .❤
Our local cemetery in Kilkenny Ireland is dedicated to Saint Finan.
I wouldn’t think the show is focused on Saint Finan, based on the conflicting backgrounds. More likely it could be said Finan in the show was named for the saint, and his cross he wore was of that denomination.
Great video!!! Would yu ever do one on Lorenzo de' Medici ?
Great job

excellent channel
We pronounce it as (fine-in.) My uncle Jim Finan was born in Sligo and he pronounces it as (fine-in) and when my grandparents were visiting Ireland my grandma was talking to someone and a lady walked past them and the man called out good morning Mrs. Finan. Once again the man pronounced it as (fine-in).

Like the Kings from Noway pronounced their last name Finehair. Did you happen to see them in some of the Viking shows? The most recent being on Netflix. They all are interesting to me.

Ive named my son finan!
But in the show he was a warrior but in real life he was just a bishop so why did they change him in the series?
Have you done anything about the River Tweed & the history of its "supposed" beginnings/history?
Name of song ? Please
I think a lot of early Christians needed to take "live and let live" to heart ...then again so do a lot of modern christians

Wait, Bede is still just "Venerable"?
Im pretty sure they are not supposed to be the same person
Yeah an Irish warrior named, Finnan wearing a Celtic cross. So he's obviously based on a saint. That couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag. The hundreds of years in difference. Makes this a big stretch dude
Cathalocism isn’t the same as catholic?
I think the Finan of the last kingdom was the descendant of St. Finan of Lindisfarne
It sucks when actual history comes along and destroys one of the best characters in a hollyweird production
Awesome..pronounced “Fee’nan” ?
