00:00 Historical Meanings of Flowers Introduction
For men, wearable flowers are almost exclusively reserved for boutonnieres. Many flower varieties have rich histories, which are important to know when putting together an outfit, or even when giving flowers as a gift.
00:49 History of Flower Meanings
Flowers have been associated with specific meanings for as long as mankind has documented itself; the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Romans and the Chinese all mention flowers with deeper meaning in their written works, and Shakespeare used nearly 200 botanical references across his plays. Juliet famously says, “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet”
Note that the meanings of flowers are important all over the world, and it’s important to check what flowers mean locally before you wear them, where they can stand for things as varied as political movements, celebrations, feelings, nationalities, and milestones.
02:52 1. Edelweiss
-- Courage
-- Devotion
04:56 2. Cornflower
-- Wealth
-- Prosperity
-- Fortune
-- Friendship
-- Hope
-- Remembrance
-- Devotion
-- Delicacy
-- Anticipation
-- Unity
-- Fertility
-- Love
06:40 3. Carnation
-- love
-- Fascination
-- Distinction
However, each color can have a different meaning
-- Pale red is for admiration
-- Dark red is for love and affection
-- White carnations represent pure love and good luck
-- Purple carnations indicate capriciousness
-- Pink carnations symbolize gratitude.
-- Yellow carnations symbolize disappointment or rejection
09:16 4. Rose
-- love
-- passion
Like the carnation, different colors of rose can have different meanings
-- Red stands for love, passion, and romance
-- Pink for grace, gratitude, joy & admiration
-- Orange symbolizes enthusiasm and passion
-- Yellow symbolizes friendship
-- White symbolizes purity, innocence, and youthfulness
11:24 5. Poppy
-- Sleep
-- Peace
-- Death
For men, these 5 flowers are the top choices for boutonnieres for a range of occasions. They are all classic options, that when selected for the right occasion, will make you look like you put in the extra effort.

Ah man, you neglected the story that goes with the Edelweiss. The story goes that in European villages near the mountains I'd assume, if a guy liked a girl and wanted to win her heart, he'd go and get her an edelweiss to show his love and to express that he loved her dearly enough he'd climb mountains for her. Because the edelweiss grows above the tree line typically on the sides of mountains, it's fairly high up there and would be a challenge to acquire one - not as simple as say going to the florist and buying a flower, and definitely more meaningful.

Hey, just a Quick Note. In Austria the cornflower is associated with the Nazis, as it was worn as a Symbol of the nsdap before the anexation by germany between 1933-1938. Therefore some people in Austria and germany might assume you want to associate yourself to these people by wearing a corn flower.

Your boutonniere creates a nice transition between the tie and the pocket square, something to learn from. Though, when I go down this boutonniere route I'll start with something more basic as an edelweiss.

I think selling poppies at Fort Belvedere can seem a bit ignorant. The reason poppy boutonnières usually look unrealistic is because veterans make them in their spare time. The veteran unions sell them as a form of charity and the money goes to support veterans. I’d maybe reconsider selling it in your shop, or if you do, donate the proceeds to veteran foundations.
