Cassandra was a virtuous lady... She didn't want to be some cast off sidepiece... She was most likely saving herself for a loving, respectful, respectable marriage... She didn't cause the Trojan War. The goddess of discord did when she threw the 🍎 of Discord amongst Hera, Athena, & Aphrodite... Also Paris did with his fickle judgment & his overwhelming lust for Helen of Sparta (later known as Helen of Troy)... Helen played a role as well when she willingly engaged in an extramarital affair with Paris then accompanied him to Troy. Cassandra was upright & innocent. I actually admire her...

Thank you so very much. I'm writing a play based on the works of Geoffrey Chaucer's Troilus and Criseyda. But theres a lot of information missing (and some misinformation too) and the research done from the Iliad to il filostrato creates even more confusion. This aids me fill some gaps and information that I could not found. The history of how things ended like this is of immense importance. Also Troilus is mentioned only once in the Iliad and that's after he is dead. I'm looking forward to the second part. Cheers.

I remember my Dad's friend from work who was Greek we would go over to their house have the delicious food with the most amazing scents I have a wonderful memory of. My Dad had gone to Bible University and was still at that time going through the different ways of understanding the nuances in the written WORD. I remember telling my Dad how a person on You Tube talked about the myths being as real as the ones we tell now. And he agreed saying that the people we went over to really be blessed by the Grecian food and friends had as much told Dad. He knew that to them it was so, there would be no argument.

Got interested in learning about this while reading "The song of Achilles" because I couldn't understand many of the references. Seems like the interpretation of the relationship between Patroclus & Achilles is different here. Well, either way, a very interesting story. Mythologies tend to have thousands of different interpretations & it's fun to learn about all the different ones.

You have done a very good job. It would be interesting to think of what myths might connote or symbolise so beautifully. Paris's choice may have to do with the choices of kings and princes at that time: to rule wisely, to rule by conquering other lands for resources and trade or to rule by marauding and plundering other places for treasure and women. The apple symbolises knowledge and deciding as in the bible. Abducting women, it seems, was a prime target of marauders. Actually, Illiad begins with the wrath of Achilles, when he had to give up Briseis - the woman he abducted, to Agamemnon, who had to return Chryseis - the woman he abducted to her father (a priest of Apollo) in order abate the wrath of Apollo.

If Paris was sensible, he would have picked Athena. Think about it. She would have made Paris a wise, powerful, courageous and well respected general and with Oenone- a nymph with healing powers by his side he would have been unbeatable, Troy would have remained a vibrant and protected city and he could have been promoted to a god. But nope! He'd rather go have at it with Helen! 🙄 I would've been a bit more lenient if Helen was in an abusive and unhappy relationship and if Paris couldn't get a wife. . .
