The Trammps - Hold Back The Night • TopPop
Музыка
The Trammps were an American disco and soul band, who were based in Philadelphia and were one of the first disco bands. They visited the Toppop studios in the Netherlands many times.
They are best known for their Grammy winning song, "Disco Inferno", originally released in 1976, becoming a UK pop hit and US R&B hit. After inclusion in the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, the song was re-released in 1978 and became an international pop hit worldwide.
This was the Trammps 5th performance on Toppop.
The lead vocals are from Jimmy Ellis and the bass vocals are by Earl Young.

This is one of the best Disco Soul numbers of the seventies.
My brother and I, two white kids living on the coast of North Carolina in the 1970's, used to listen to Duke Robert's Beach Party radio every chance we got and grew up to love The Trammps, The Embers, General Johnson & the Chairmen of the Board, The Catalinas...and so many others. Such great memories that I'll always cherish.
I played this so much when I had cancer, it lifted my spirit, and yes I survived beating all the odds, as they said it was inoperable.

This track is, to this day, considered a Carolina Beach Music classic. My S.O. and I vacationed in the Outer Banks last year (in Duck, NC)...the first day, when we went down to the beach, we were greeted by this song coming from somebody's "boom box." We set up by the couple with the music, and they played practically their whole "Beach Music" playlist (the Band of Oz, General Johnson and the Showmen, the Tams, the Clovers, Willie Tee and on and on.)....best day of the trip. I love this song. I'm old enough to remember when those outfits were considered cool. 🤣🤣🤣
Absolutely fantastic now here is real musicians loved the disco in 70,s I’m 63 listening to all this beautiful music just takes me back to my happy place’s I’ve been so long ago.

That’s outstanding! My band (Dutchman) was given a “bottle of red” from Billy Joel. The wine case was a gift to his guitar tech, who happened to be involved at a venue my bandmate was apart of for the night. Graciously he was given instructions to hand us a bottle for being good lads. Small and great world, just gotta be there!
Saw Trammps dec 2021 and this song brought tears to my eyes, so many memories. Where did the time go? Trammps disco champs ❤️
How can such a happy and joyful song have such heartbreaking lyrics ? Because it's Genius
Couldn't wait for this to become an Oldie! This is one of the best up-tempo tunes ever made. Transcending disco even
Old records never die.

Watched the BBC Proms Northern Soul Wigan Casino homage tonight and this was one of the tunes they performed. The NS anoraks among us will know that it was the instrumental version Scrub-Board that was first played at the Casino…😅 Either way, a great tune that evokes a wonderful time in our lives!

I like the light. I wait for sunlight in the morning and turn on the lights in the evening. Hold back the darkness!
Though I am not Black myself, I have held a special place in my heart for Blacks because of the Rich Music that has enriched our culture so much. I wrote about that in my book: God is Love.
