I personally think these are a mixed bag: - The interior ambience is solid - The acceleration is really fast - The half tables are a nice addition compared to the 455s. - The train is clean. However: - The toilet is not good at all, I had to try about ten times to get the tap to work and when it did it was way too harsh. Plus it smelt a little... weird. - The seats are much too thin - having someone sit next to you is not fun - Legroom is poor - it is not fun having someone sit opposite - The ride quality is really not good. A 444 going 100 is much, much smoother than a 701 going half the speed. A 465 (which runs similar types of services) is much smoother, both BREL and Met-Cam. It only handles slightly better than an electrostar. Are they better than the 455s? Yes. But that isn't difficult. The 455s are one of the worst trains in the UK. Are they good trains? Well...

I agree with you, even though I've never used a toilet on a 701 before. And 455 are really meant for short distances in terms of passengers using it. And yes, the 701's journey was quite rough comparing it to a 450 or a 444. Thank you for commenting.

@@RoadRailAviation No probs - having been on all of SWR's metro trains I found that the 458 has a much smoother ride and much nicer seats (especially in declassified 1st class) so I would take a 458 over a 701. But my local TOC is Southeastern who use 465s. The 465s are much smoother at speed than a 701 so yeah

2:07 they made an error. Its only supposed to say district line and london overground because london underground is literally the same thing

Another benefit you didn't mention in the video is the amazing acceleration, these are the fastest accelerating 100mph units in the UK

@@RoadRailAviation Did you notice it while on-board? They aren't operating at their max potential at the moment due to a few more software patches being needed but it's still very impressive at current capacity

@@OneTrackMinded Yes, I did notice it when I was on-board it, it's accelaration was faster than most of the trains I was on, it was very snappy and pulled me back once
