I'd find speed climbing way more interesting if it was a brand new route each competition that the two competitors had to read briefly and then race on identical copies of.

A climber having to learn a route through reading won't work out well though. I would be more interested in a wall with many possible routes and its up to the climbers to find their own fastest one

Its not one of the many Roman bridges - But yes it is very old and built of sandstone. A beautiful example of post industrial age architecture. They should find a concrete bridge to drill holes in next time.
@perperson199
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Why would they allow that?
@John-Smlth
2 жыл бұрын
@@perperson199 In my eyes old things like this should be used rather than just preserved. Sure, don't do this if it means the bridge will collapse, but this event will clearly have been thought through, and I'm sure it won't leave lasting impact. Plus, as the competitors said, this makes the event much cooler visually than if they used a concrete bridge.

Its Europe - we have literally tens of thousands of them. And they are living structures - they constantly need repair. Honestly its no big deal.
Just realized the routes are not the same. They're asymmetric. The same hold grabbed with one hand on one route would be grabbed with the other on the opposite route. A right or left hand dominant climber would have an advantage depending on if the water is on his right or left, wouldn't they?

For sure it definitely has some small effect. But I do think that climbing tends towards more even strength than say tennis or baseball. When climbing you need to use the arm that you need to use, you don't get to choose most of the time.

As long as it's completely random who gets what side then its "fair". Plus the winner of the competition won the quarters on one side and the final on the other.
