Dang, this movie just hits you in the gut the whole way through. Keep in mind that Desmond kept pace with his platoon on essentially half rations the whole time, too. @@det_tf2 bread is actually fairly dense in calories. As a matter of fact, soliders throughout history survived mostly on bread. Back in the roman empire, bread constituted 50 to 90% of a soldier's daily calorie intake. And it was that way for most of human history. Meat's always been a luxury - only recently has that changed.

Chicken breast is about 110, thighs are up to 170, beef and pork are up to 260. While white bread is about 350 and more for specific variations. Furthermore, bread is carbs which is essentially an energy source, while meat is protein, which is needed for muscle growth and maintanance basically. Judjung by Doss's physique he doesn't need much protein a day, and the amount he needs he can easily get while consuming products other than meat. Though, it is a tough life without meat. I personaly consume daily about 700-800g of pure chicken breasts.

He understood they only treated him this way because they didn’t believe in him. A man joining the army only to refuse to carry a weapon? It sounds mad even today. But where everyone just saw death, Desmond Doss saw life that needed preserving.

That look he gave him at @2:12 is a death stare. People can really be stingy and ugly, yet some like Desmond prevail and stay true regardless of the punishment because he wants to serve his country. Truly a great warrior that didn't need a weapon. Tough love comes from Drill Sergeants and Drill Instructors, but you would rarely hear any soldier, Marine, Sailor, Airman say they wouldn't stand up for them in the end.

Well sunrise is usually 6am in April in Okinawa where and when hacksaw ridge took place, but let's say march since that was the battle and not training. So 6:45am, but would get bright-ish about 25-30 mins before sunrise, so we'll say its 6:30 just to meet in the middle. They'd still be asleep

Something those soldiers don't realize, is that the medic would only be shooting until someone gets shot. And in the pacific theater that might be 10 seconds into a firefight. And that medic is going to put down his gun to treat that guy which could take hours to do properly, and minute after minute more men will be getting hurt. Long story short, if the medic ain't willing to shoot, it's not hurting the squad much because that medic will only be a rifleman for thebfirst minute of a days worth of battle.

  • @kyloluma

the main issue is that medics carry guns in self defence and the defence of those they are saving. without a gun, they can just be shot.
