Спорт

Hello Big Bore Fanatics, sorry for being late (again). Time for us to look at some rifle calibers that made their way into a revolver. From the well known to the truly obscure, we take a look at 5 of these calibers that someone just had to be able to shoot from a handgun. I hope you enjoy, and please check out the link below to see the #1 caliber in action! Also, if you can, please check out Leverguns 50 as they have some pretty amazing videos!

I just want to point out that the 50 Alaskan is a blown out 348, but the 348 is just a necked down 50-110. It lost .3" in the process, but the 50 Alaskan is just a back-formed 50-110 loaded to modern pressures.

@chris mclaughlin I think the legal hurdle would be using a known cartridge that is grandfathered in to get around atf dorkiness, but making something like that would be a bit of a challenge for me. Maybe a top break but shooting out the bottom cylinder like the chiappa? Your cartridge would be fairly pleasant to shoot relative to it's performance.

Question of the year!! With so many guns out there that are so close and velocity chambered in 44 and 452, 458 it seems there's a lot of cartridges that do the same thing so the question I would have is what one does it the best? Which one is going to produce the most power while sending the largest bullet while having the lowest recoil or just in general which cartridge has the best balance and feel in a big bore revolver? In this case let's stick to the cartridges that are on your list that you've had a chance to fire

What? No .577 T-Rex? I have shot .458 Winchester and .45-70 out of a Ruger #1, and both were more pleasant to shoot then a 444 Marlin out of the namesake Marlin lever gun. I bought the first one and sold it because it was too uncomfortable to shoot. 20 years later, I bought another, thinking that I was just misremembering how unpleasant it was. Turns out my memory was working just fine. There is no way in HELL that I would shoot one in a revolver, and this is coming from someone that wants a BFR in .50 JRH. Currently, my biggest revolver is a Ruger SBH in 480 Ruger.

There is a point where chambering a revolver to shoot a cartridge meant to be fired in a rifle, not only makes no sense, but surpasses foolhardy, and goes directly to fuggin' stupid. I don't care what the manufacturer claims about the revolver's ability to withstand the high pressures, your body was never designed to.

i would imagine the recoil would simply just shear your thumb completely off down to the wrist knuckle and cave in your ribcage killing you instantly... big bore even if you are literally bigfoot

@@Tenforward1 Not quite. .600 Nitro is travelling at an average of around 2,000 fps with around 8k ft/lbs. of muzzle energy. The 50 BMG is going at 3k - 3,500 fps producing 13k - 14k ft/lbs. of muzzle energy. Both have similar weight projectiles. 50 BMG is WAY more powerful....almost double.

Those long cases hold too much powder to burn efficiently in a short barrel. I will keep to shorter cylinders and go with more efficency.

they make rifles for a reason BuuuuT the one good thing is about a big ass revolver is your rist will heal but you cant reattach a retina and a rifle that side that's a real risk, gotta love'em though

Hi guys me again. I got to say I love shooting milk jugs and bricks and steel and even paper targets with all those giant loads giant revolvers but I've only been able to shoot big bored out of a rifle so far being my 458 socom. I've got a 357 Magnum that I run pretty hot loads through probably hotter than I should not by choice just I was an amateur reloader and thought I knew what was best my mistake. My fear is spending $1,300 on a revolver or more for one of these giant cartridges and I know I would have more fun than I can count with the impacts the bullet makes on whatever the target is I'm just afraid with three coil numbers pushing double triple even for what my shoulder rifle calipers do that I would not enjoy shooting it and that's what scares me is a love-hate relationship with something I bought behind my wife's back for $1,300 LOL

If I may reply, I just bought a used 7.5 inch Super Redhawk in 454 Casull and I love it. Wide range of loads from .45 Schofield to 360 grain 454. Very versatile.

I think I will stay away from those monsters and stick with my wimpy S&W mod. 57....6-inch 41. Magnum...and stay away from any place where a 265. grain 41. Mag. round wouldn't be sufficient to stop the 4-legged threats that inhabits those environments...Could you image carrying weapons 1 or 2 in a shoulder holster....smh.
