This guy is brilliant 👍🏻 thank you
undeniably vital information especially about asking the person think about what they would feel if they where you, remind them to me decent , human
Chris Voss is a genius. I’m in the process of getting my insurance and real estate licenses and his work has helped me learn so much about the human mind. Chris looks like he has a great collection of one of my favorite artists, Hugh Macleod.
*Although I prefer "Is this a bad time to talk" more now, for almost two decades I had formed my own habit of saying, "Should I call back at a better time?"* *Dare I say I rarely heard, "yes, call back later", but when I did, an appointment was set. Thus, I believe I may have stumbled across the same psychology with similar success. Ultimately I prefer his line now.*
Learned this today used it today got multiple responses. Thanks Mr. Voss
I'd love to see two people who have read the book and practice the concept of negotiating with each other.
Voss The Boss
*"Is this a bad time to talk?"* *Only ask questions calibrated to solicit a "no" agreement, especially in the afternoon or when the person maybe tired.* *"Is it a ridiculous idea if...?"* *"Are you against...?"* *"How am I supposed to do that?"* *"Have you given up on....?"*
I’ve got Asperger’s…even plain, direct language is difficult for me. Playing these games is mind boggling.
i also would support the idea that it's important to ask 'how are you' from a place of meaning and context...and that asking this question is not lame and one should go into the subject at hand without barely saying hello..... perhaps the hostage negotiation skills are urgent and deciding at the moment, but in my world i really enjoy askin/hearing about what they are doing and starting a conversation ..........it's human social /
Thank you
My "good times to talk" are so rare sometimes I've responded "It's never a good time to talk". Another is when asked if I am busy. The answer is "I'm always busy". 😅 I'm not lying. Read the book. You'll be ready when these things are thrown at you.

There's so much ads on the video- I just gave up. Thanks for putting it together- but it was so hard to extract value from the guest when the video keep getting interrupted every 5 minutes.
-Have you given up on x? To restart. -Is this a bad time to talk? Tunes them in. -Does it sound ridiculous if we did x? -Are you opposed to/against x? Getting NO, but it’s a yes. -How am I supposed to do that? Response to first hearing the pricing, causes many to drop price by themselves.

My question is, Did the author agree because he knows Chris Voss name and his status or truly because of the offer and how it was phrased? Love his teachings, don’t get me wrong. He is also well known now which will have more influence on decisions.

I suspect there’s a difference of outcome between these being delivered verbally vs written.

I am a contractor in a very busy market. When someone even suggest I cut my quote using any words they can string together. I calmly say good luck and end the conversation. Here is the way I look at it. You are lucky to get me to do the work at any price. You try to negotiate with me and I see it as wasting my time.

If they say yes to the bad time to talk question, Wait a few seconds to see if they offer a time to talk and if they don’t just say OK goodbye in a neutral tone of voice. Call back in six weeks and ask the same question again. Respect do you want me to do that because you will be so busy with those people who said no I can talk now.
Imagine how jilted you’d feel just trying to decide where to go to lunch with this guy. You would end up, picking him up in your own car, driving him there, paying for the lunch, sending him back home in a limo.

Only if his intent was to be a jerk. It's not the skills on question, only the intent of the person.
Doesn't like his own stuff being used on him and cuts off anyone who tries to do so, because he immediately recognizes he is being manipulated 😂😂😂 Has some good stuff (if used sincerely), albeit fairly well known and generic. But I always have to laugh at communications experts that come across as arrogant A/holes who think the world of themselves. Particularly ones who are apparently so in demand and busy that they have time to peddle their kernels of wisdom endlessly online as an attempt to get sign ups into their courses.
31:20 Interesting elucidation on how to react to someone who has no motivation to help you.
