The time Honda made a Motocross Scooter

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In the 90s Japanese motorcycle manufacturers were developing faster, more powerful and more sophisticated sports bikes every year. But in total Honda Fashion, they decided to build one of the oddest little bikes in motorcycle history: The cub EZ90

I can see immediately why it failed, its not street legal. If it had been, it would have been a runaway success like the later fat wheeled semi off road Piaggio Typhoon was in Europe in the late 90's. Off road only bikes is already a niche, so this is a Honda niche of a niche. So no shit it didn't sell. This was a failure of understanding the real demographics of who would buy this. A teenager who might occasionally taste dirt with it.

If they put lights on it I feel like it might have sold better, that's at least one of the reasons the older CT series worked so well. You could cruise around the roads and then hit up the trails. You could go just about anywhere legally, especially if you lived outside a city. I remember that was one of the problems I faced with my '77 XL75, the previous owner had taken the lights off it, so I couldn't go on main roads without the police giving me problems. But my friends with their CT70 and ST90 could just cruise wherever as long as they didn't drive like maniacs.

I remember seeing one for the first time at a Honda dealership back in the early 90's. It was quite futuristic looking and really cool. The rounded and fully covered look was extended to a lot of the equipment too such as the mowers and rototillers. The Honda stuff just looked lightyears beyond everything I had seen as a teenager. I later in life began to appreciate how well built Honda stuff is. Thanks for the nostalgia.

I remember seeing it in a 1994 DIRT BIKE magazine and saying what is that? Pretty cool bike. I wouldn't mind owning one for putting around the yard.

A friend of mine had one here in Ireland in the mid 1990s and it was the only one I’ve ever seen. He didn’t treat it well at all but it never broke down in the few years that he ragged around on it.

Duuuude… there used to be a show on Nickelodeon that was just kids racing in every type of ORV and they had these! Being on that show was my childhood dream and I totally forgot about these and the show until I just saw this.

Looks like my Honda X8R-X scooter. It was used in 2000 as a pit bike. They made 2 versions. One road bias and another with off-road bias. 50cc 2-stroke engine. Ive just got mine on the road after 15 years in my brother's garage.

I had one, it was a HSC CUB and it was a beast! It stript my rear sprocket to a wave in less than 3 month, it took 4 liters of fuel in only 30minutes of having fun. But it was near impossible to lock as it had solid wheels. Mine was the blue white red version and I am sad I do not have it anymore😫 it was very heavy on the front but still had to be careful not to open the throttle to fast as it has more than once caused some damage to “ objects” in my way😎

Excellent video! I never heard of this bike. It strikes me as an incredibly good idea. It would be perfect on the rugged terrain of my friends' Texas Hill Country ranch where I hunt. And the snow model kit makes it like a Swiss Army knife. How about putting some close-fitting turn signals on it and room for a box? It would be a great errand bike. I'm sorry I missed out on having one of these.

I can vouch that these are as rare as hens teeth, i'm all about vintage Hondas and i've been looking for a nice Cub for a long time. Not too many in Ohio, i've seen 2 in 10 years.

The reason that lots of amazing original looking bikes don’t do as well as they should is because the company never makes enough of them. So many people can’t get one because there’s none in stock so they settle for a different brand that is

A winter version that acts like a thermos with insulation and a heater could help with cold starts also a heat exchanger with the coolant system so its not too cold/thick and a valve for regulation of temperature
