The Tigger Movie - Disneycember

Ойын-сауық

The bouncing ball of fluff has his own film, let's see if Doug considers it as good as good as some of the other Winnie the Pooh movies. Doug checks out The Tigger Movie.
The Tigger Movie is a 2000 American animated musical comedy-drama film produced by Walt Disney Television Animation and animation production by Walt Disney Animation (Japan), Inc., written and directed by Jun Falkenstein from a story by Eddie Guzelian. It is the second theatrical Winnie the Pooh film after The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and features Pooh's best friend Tigger searching for his family tree and other Tiggers like himself.

I appreciate the 'liar revealed' setup was a bit different in this case, as in Tigger figured out he was lied to, but he didn't quite connect all the dots, he tragically still thought the letter was real. Also rather than one character getting ostracised by the main group for lying and having to get their approval again, it's the actual main group that does the lie because they wanted the one character not to feel ostracised in the first place. Even besides that the premise of a WINNIE THE POOH character feeling betrayed by another is so unusual it doesn't feel predictable. Tigger really held the family thing dear to him and when the others make a farce out of it he actually snaps. Besides that the climax it built up to wasn't completely pointless, it was to set up how devoted the others were to Tigger and how he'd risk their life for them. A testament to the fact they were family. How does Tigger save them? He puts them on his "family tree". Cliche and maybe a bit over actionized for Pooh sure, but it works.

When the avalanche hits, Tigger jumps everyone up to his family tree like you said. But If you look closely at Tigger's face for a fraction of a second, he seems saddened before he jumps up with Rabbit. In that moment, you can see that he knew the Avalanche would take him.

Yeah but it's not fit for a Winnie the Pooh movie, Winnie the Pooh was always a simplistic yet charming franchise so for this movie to have a climactic scene where the characters are actually in fear of dying then it feels out of place.

@@Treeeee2008 I understand where you're coming from, but at the same time, it's just fun. It was fun for me when I was little, it's fun for me now but in a goofier way, and to be honest, I don't mind that it isn't the same. The Many Adventures had severe flooding and wind damaged treehouses, just played in a super comical way so that it feels like a kid's imagination. And this felt like what happens when that kid starts to mess around, which is pretty much exactly what happened in the film's opening. I always thought of it as a split between Tigger and Roo as main characters, because Roo carries a secondary external conflict while also leading the secondary internal conflict with his friends. If you don't like the film, I certainly get it. I just think it's fun.

In the avalanche, Tigger and Roo escape it by doing the Whoopty-Dooper-Loopty-Looper-Alley-Ooper Bounce, a bounce that Roo was so eager to learn, and Tigger spent time teaching Roo. Also, before the avalanche, Tigger was still mad at his friends, but when he saw that he and his friends were in imminent danger, he put his anger aside, and took them all to safety, putting his friends’ lives before his own. It shows that Tigger is a loyal friend, and how much he cares about them.

As much as he praised the art and the songs, I feel that Doug underestimated the film. I understand that he does not like the "lier review" and the "misunderstanding" clichés, but this movie is one of the few that I think have done it correctly. And man, the climax is unbelievably strong for WTP, and one of the best points in the movie which in my opinion makes it stand out over other Pooh movies. I think it works very well, just because it's the kind of thing you do not expect in a Pooh movie. Another things I think deserves more recognition in this film is the many great heartwarming moments it have, and of course the message about how a non-traditional family stills a family, and that not every family needs to be biological.

I actually think the climax serves more of a purpose than what Doug was giving it credit for. When the avalanche started, Tigger began to save the people that he cared for by literally PLACING them in his family tree. This is a very creative bit of visual storytelling. Symbolically, Tigger is treating his friends as family members. Secondly, Tigger mentions earlier in the film that only true tiggers (only members that tigger is convinced are his family) can properly perform the Whoopty-Dooper-Loopty-Looper-Alley-Ooper bounce. But during the climax, we see Tigger's misconception is shattered when Roo flawlessly proves Tigger wrong. Tigger himself acknowledges this and says that Roo's bounce was just as good as any tigger. And thirdly, as you mentioned, the scene was just so thrilling. The animation and expressions on the characters faces really stuck with me after all these years. I personally think this is one of, if not the best, Winnie the Pooh movie.

He hates it when after the reveal happens, the characters would begin to hate each other and the story just drags until the climax begins, which is what kinda happened in this movie. The liar revealed part in HT only lasted for about a couple minutes, the other characters don’t end up hating on him after it happened, they forgive him fairly quickly.

Its like Kanga tols Roo...."Tigger IS a part of their family. And as long as they care for him, he always will be." And they were the family who wound up in the locket.....so no liar.

@@ToonReel001 Even then, i don't think it works terribly well because it's a Winnie The Pooh movie trying to be something it isn't. Winnie the Pooh isn't about grand epic adventures; it's a slice-of-life franchise about a well-knit group of friends. The conflict is never a question of defeating a villain or surviving a perilous journey; it usually just amounts to an argument or misunderstanding that spirals out of control. It's humble, and that's why I like it. It doesn't feel the need to throw its weight around or go all out with the spectacle. Winnie the Pooh just knows what it is and polishes that to perfection.

@@Nintendotron64 While it's maybe kinda grandiose, I think it was still in a way that focused on Pooh's primary appeal; the characterisation. Many seem to like Pooh's Grand Adventure not just because of the darker undertones but because of the character studies we got from it. Because of the cast envisioning everything as this dark and terrifying (but in reality harmless) adventure, their trademark shortcomings are set in front of them and deconstructed. They're still driving the story, not some epic villain or event.

+Alex Klepp: Or ANY of the Winnie the Pooh films. Or the 90's TV series. Like, as someone who grew up watching these Winnie the Pooh movies and TV shows and reading the books, it's REALLY bizarre to me that Doug Walker thinks that the climax of this film was really THAT out of place. I never once felt that and still don't. Although I think it might be a bit of an issue with more people knowing ABOUT Disney Winnie the Pooh movies rather than actually KNOWING them. Kind of like how I think there's a big disconnect between those that know ABOUT Superman stories versus actually KNOWING them.

I think I can explain why there's a climax of this movie. Winnie the Pooh is a kind, soft spoken, innocent bear. so that's why the ending of the first movie is pooh and Christopher talking on a bridge. If the main character is peaceful and calm, the ending and the movie would be peaceful and calm. Now for the tigger movie, what is tigger? An energetic, bouncy, fast talking, tiger. He's a far cry from pooh bear, and when the main character is as energetic as tigger is, the movie and ending would be full of energy and action. A movie that starts off with energy and ends with a peaceful talk wouldn't work together.

Come to think of it, the climax of Piglet's Big Movie is a fitting size too. It's still a life or death situation, but it's only focused on one character (Pooh), and it's smaller than an avalanche while still being dire (falling into a river). The entire point of the movie is how much of a noble, courageous person Piglet is in spite of his size.

Man this was one of the first movies that I've ever saw in my life and... it is gorgeous! My mother had it on VHS (yes, I grew up with those) and my brother and I watched it with my mom and, it was just a beautiful movie to watch. The message that family is the one that will take care of you and love you unconditionally was very strong for me and my brother, specially because we grew up in a divorced family. Tigger was one of my favorite characters and, being an adult, I think that the movie holds up. I cry every time that I hear that ending song, it just brings a lot of memories to me. It's just beautiful in every way. I might check it out soon just to remember the good ol' days. Thanks Doug!

This was actually one of the first movies I ever watched as a kid. This, and "The Wizard of Oz". I would always come home after kindergarten and watch either these movies and I never got tired of them. I'm really glad The Tigger Movie was my first movie because it has so much heart and the animation is stunning. To this day, I still get teary-eyed at the end when Christopher Robin gathers them all for the family photo and when he takes the picture, it cuts to the printed photo and then the credits play that beautiful song "Your Heart Will Lead You Home". It's a really beautiful ending. I don't know why Doug had an issue with the climax. It didn't seem forced to me.

But this is one of the best WTP movies, precisely because it goes a step further with the climax and the emotional side, and for all the cliché that is still great for a Pooh movie, I remember how epic it was for me and for practically all the children who grew up with this movie the climax cliche. Using the old dialogue in the end as the canonical films did is good, but vary from time to time when it is EVEN BETTER. And this kind of cliché may not work with other films but with Tigger, I think it has worked perfectly. My only big problem with this movie is that they forgot one of the best points of the comedy franchise. There are funny scenes and dialogues, but not as good as in other movies .... Other than that, it's great for what it is.

Called him being put off by the 'liar revealed' plot. :P The pop culture stuff I didn't mind too much since it was all limited to one 'acid trip' music number that just made it more zany and random, otherwise it's the series' usual humour. I also loved having a movie centered primarily around Tigger and Roo's bond, compared to Pooh and Piglet or Pooh and Christopher Robin, that chemistry is so underrated. This was really the first Pooh work to really focus on Roo heavily and emotionally and it made me love him as much as the main lot (even if the later Disneytoon works seem to become obsessed with Roo as a result, seriously by the time Lumpy came along Roo was practically the star and Pooh was a bit character).

Surprisingly, the bluesy song that Doug finds weird, I find quite sad, Tigger find himself truly alone and only has the comfort of his remaining friend to help. It always gives me that warm, fuzzy rush of nostalgia whenever it plays. I personally enjoyed the climax, we do so often see these characters in low tension, everyday moments it was interesting to see them deal with something more extream. If that was the bulk of the movie like they tried to turn the Tigger movie into some weird sort of action flick than I'd have a problem with it. But it's only one little scene near the end and it helps tie the whole thing together with Tigger teaching roo the supdeeduper loopdilooper alioooper bounce, and prove to Tigger how much his friends truly care for him and how much they're willing to put on the line for him.

It's worth noting that the 1980s TV cartoon is surprisingly dark and melancholy for a Winnie The Pooh show and I felt that this movie as well as Pooh's Grand Adventure did a decent job of capturing the same tone. It doesn't work for everyone, but you can't really blame Disney for trying to continue something that had been a success and was rerun on Saturday mornings for, like, a decade.

I remember I loved that one as a kid. I still have it on VHS. I’ll have to give it another look sometime.

I cried so much on this movie. I would probably still cry. And I pesonally loved the tigger solo with the refrences.

I watched the hell out of this on VHS when I was little. I have so many memories of it along with Pooh's Grand Adventure and Piglet's Big Movie (the latter of which I actually saw in theaters). I remember so many of the songs, especially Kenny Loggins' *beautiful* one at the end.

Ohhh I remember getting this movie as VHS for easter when I was very young. Boy have I often watched this one, because I really loved it! I still have some images left in my head, for example when Tiggr thought he had found the family tree, because it had stripes, but no one was around. And how devestated he was when he thought that he had no family that loved him. But I loved the fact that his friends tried to cheer him up. That was so cute. Oh and I also remember that Eeh-Ahh tried to build a house for the entire movie, but Tiggr always destroyed it. And in the end he built him a new home xD That was so funny and cute.

This is a movie that I watched as a kid, but I have no real memory of, at least not specifically. Instead I have an emotional memory of this movie, because I was too young to really remember the story but I was old enough to really feel for Tigger, who was always my favorite Pooh character and seeing him so sad and lonely affected me so much that that emotional memory sticks with me anytime I think of this movie. I don't know if the movie is truly that great at creating these emotions or if it was just my first exposure to that kind of lonely desperate emotion but I can think of very few pieces of media that left that much of an emotional footprint on me, so I love this movie for that. I almost don't want to rewatch it because I know there's no way it can be as moving as I remember.
